Some of Terry's photos from today, as promised. Amazing how much is happening even with the unending rain.

Posted Image
North Field trench, standing on western edge looking east across large (early?) E-W ditch system

Posted Image
North Field trench, center, looking south at (I think) later drain that was placed in/over backfilled early ditch

Posted Image
Good old Site 4a from early in the year -- parts being excavated, the northern lip being backfilled

Posted Image
The -massive- Site 7/8 from the NW corner looking east across the water tank... have fully lost the bubble on all the bits & bobs that are in this trench; can anyone help describe what's happening here?

Posted Image
4b from west looking east across the old N/S defensive ditches and the later N/S vicus roadway beyond it

Posted Image
An overview from the SE corner of 5 looking N to the aqueduct as the baulk between it and 4b is pulled out

Posted Image
Another overview of 7/8 from the SE corner looking NW

Terry reports: "Rained off today. Most diggers went on walk led by Andy, Beth and Katy to Roman Army Museum. Photo shows lunch being taken at Cawfields Quarry. Not looking good for tomorrow."

Terry's pictures from Wednesday, sorry for the delay!

Posted Image
new trench opened off SW corner of area 8

Posted Image
Area 7/8 also being extended to the west

Posted Image
Another new trench opened off NW corner of area 7

Posted Image
Along with another extension of 7/8 at its own NW corner

Posted Image
Northern lip of Area 4a now serving as backfill

Posted Image
This seems to be in the start of the year's area 1a/1b, tracing another ditch

Posted Image
The deep N/S ditch system in 4b (near the old "Anaerobe Gulch") getting more work

So the dig widens still more!

Progress in new trench of SW corner of 7/8, near temple, looking SE

Posted Image
Image of drains/stonework (and other unknown features!) in SW corner of 7/8

Backfilling continuing at northern lip of 4a

Terry's pictures from Friday, as promised!

Progress in new trench NW of 7/8

Progress in new trench SW of 7/8

Standing at S edge of 8, looking N up across 7/8. So much archaeology here! Terry, or anyone, can you illuminate a bit of what's showing here?

Posted Image
NW extension of area 7

Posted Image
Overview of 7/8 standing at NE edge looking SW-ish. Watertank visible at left (ironically in -front- of the huge pool of water!). Again, lots of trenches, boulders, color changes -- any clues for the arm-chair brigade of what's happening?

Posted Image
Middle of the old 4b looking north at the nicely defined edge of the early N/S ditch system going under the later Severan stones and vicus aqueduct.

Where are my manners? A huge shout-out to Terry for all the shots this week! It's a lot of fun as always watching the site unfold, and much appreciated.
