Good morning! (Afternoon?)

Webcams today show a lot of blue sky and dry ground. Hope it's been a good start to Week 18 on-site! Hard to belive it's already coming into the later part of the season. With a month left, what else will be found & learned?

Here is an updated basic plan of how I understand the site work at the end of Wk 17 (many thanks to NicC for the reports!). As always, if things are wrong, please let me know.

I called by the site this afternoon, a lovely sunny day and the diggers hard at work tidying the site ready for the high level photograph session.
Note the north field spoil heap centre right the first photograph

More of trenches 8 and 9 with the last one for those who enjoyed tea break on the sunnier days.
Justin doing his afternoon talk, I took a photo to show how close the excavation has moved toward the temple.

Pete:

Once again, you're a star. I don't care what Badger says about you. :)

Thanks for posting those brilliant photos. You made my afternoon.

This was possibly my last trip up this season so I look forward to fellow We Diggers photos and Justin's tweets. I reduced the resolution to speed up the website but if anyone needs a higher resolution image let me know.

Very interesting to see Justin's tweet that the enormous & deep N/S ditch (ditches?) in area 4B is now pegged as Hadrianic. Wonder what that means for the fort layout from that time period... Another mystery!

Attached are a series of photographs taken at the end of week 18 showing some of the areas being excavated that week. Two of the pictures show a large piece of amphora which came out of a trench adjacent to Trench 10. Unfortunately it didn't appear to be marked, but something may show up after washing. When I left plans were in hand to join up all the trenchs adjacent to trench 10 and it would be great to find out what was then revealed.
