As usual, the annual Friends report was interesting winter reading, giving us an overview of the 2012 season and some additional tidbits (that were news to me at least), such as the inscription to the Tungrian water goddess found in the vicus. However, what really caught my eye in the report was the description of five human long bones from the North Field trench. I don't remember these being mentioned while I was digging there in the penultimate week, makes me wonder if some of the big bones I found turned out not to be bovine - I recovered several ribs in amongst the muck at the bottom. I'll be waiting with baited breath to see if something becomes of the DNA analysis. |
