From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.

Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!

Thanks for 7 great years!

Whilst up on the site I took a trip out to Chesters fort and headed south a few miles to visit Warden church of St Micheal & All Angels (yes all angels, nobody left out here) I read Clifford Jones book on walking Hadrians wall and in it he mentions the church and has an interesting theory that because the first church was built around AD704 the builders not only used reused roman stone but possibly saw the wall turrets standing to almost full height & modelled the tower along the same lines? The tower has been added to over the centuries but a nice theory.

The guide mentions these graves with iron hoops to stop grave robbing or the resurrection men, was Hexham a centre for anatomy students?

Finally on the road down from Chesters fort a nice cross base by the river.
