From Aug 2006 - Nov 2013 WeDig provided a live forum for diggers & fans of Vindolanda. It has now been mothballed and will be maintained as a live archive.
Here you will find preserved 7 years of conversation, photos, & knowledge about a site many people love. Vindolanda gets under the skin. (Figuratively and literally as a volunteer excavator!) It's a place you remember, filled with people you remember!
Thanks for 7 great years!

This feature in the image has puzzled me for a long time, could be a modern attempt by a farmer to aid drainage off his field, but it seems oddly placed to maximize drainage because it doesn't follow the slope of the field. A more interesting alternative is a cut for the Stanegate. Anybody know anything about it, or have other thoughts/speculation/comments?![]() |

I always thought it was just a "tractor way". Never checked it on the ground though. |

The interesting feature within this cut for me is that at the top of it (west end) there is a large doorway with a wall running east which beth uncovered in 2009 - i'll try and add a pic if i can find one! |

Thanks Kevin, was the stone thought to be Roman/in Roman context? |
