Unless you want to learn how to run the other I would stick with the brand you have. Far as hacking through weeds, that all comes down to the prop on the motor. More thrust is always better. Have room and the money to run 3 batteries? go for it. Motor guide is USA made. (atleast last time I checked) I have had both. The Minkota I have had to work on a few times. The switches for go and speed select seem crappy. Crappy enough I carry a spare on my boat.
