I am flipping with a heavy rod to boot. 8 foot lamiglas 806 The # one reason I started flippin with briad is that mono will not slide throgh my hands worth a damn first thing in the am. that sticky humid air on delta mornings makes it impossible to flip to my liking. The mono drags across my fingers and stops and goes. This makes the water penetration HORRIBLE. looks like a kid throwing stones in the water. by about noon on most days the dew is gone and flippin mono is not a problem any more. going to braid fixed that problem but it created another! I found out real fast that ROCKS eat briad. I mean it eats it up fast. Rocks put nicks in braid. once that happens it breaks so easy you would not beilieve. TO have the best of both worlds I started joining mono to braid witch has evolved to braid to floral carbon. Now, Green maxima is the most abrasion resistant line I have found. It takes a beating on the most nasty rock structure and keeps on tickin. It just has a horible memory. Stetching it out on your truck bumper in the AM solves that problem easy. I started with the maxima floral carbon just a few weeks back so I can not say for sure how I like it. It seems to be fine. if you want the proven rock resistant mono stick to green max. join your braid to mono using the tony pena knot and test it. tie the rig to a solid outdoor fixture like a car bumper of fence post. stretch it out by stepping back slowly. I tested mine this way hoping to break it to find the weak point. I applied enough pressure without anything failing that Iam saticified a fish will not break it. I leaned back with nearly all my weight but nothing broke. my experince with carp is that bass maybe near but not right with them. when the carp are trashing about like you see this time of year they are spawning. It has nothing to do with food source. The carp come in such large numbers that they push the black bass out. When I say out I mean just down the bank a few yard. Bass NEVER thrash around in the shallows like the carp. Alot of folks mistake the carp thrashing about for large mouth. when you see that thrashing just troll over and investigate. you will find soon that they are alomost always carp but never bass. when you see those carp spawning its time to get out the fresh cut mackrel becuase BIG cat fish are spawning right around that area as well. I have caught cats in the teens several times on multiple lakes when the carp are full on spwaning. Hope this helps some. Edited by jigmister, May 19 2009, 09:57 PM.
