More like bring your dropshot rig. Tough, tough bite yesterday. Steve Hunger found 'em on brushhugs, but said that he couldn't establish a pattern...Anywhere from 8" to 8' Brent caught a few on topwater early - didn't hear how he caught the rest.

Ron and I struggled. I missed a nice one first thing on a frog - took it down and moved the line, but only had it by the leg. Ron caught one on a chart buzzbait, one on a white/chart fluke, and one cranking a shallow running white crankbait. I had a few bites right in the weeds flipping a junebug beaver, but I missed most of them and the one good bite I had came off.(damnitall)

So, not sure what to do for NCCC...it might be that 6 boats fishing for limits is the way to go.

I still think fishing early in the morning is completely different to fishing late afternoon to evening. It's no comparison because the fish were a lot more active in the evenings. But I'm still confident we'll get a big bag for NCCC.

I'm glad you guys are on 'em. I'll look forward to learning the ways.

No worries - I'm bringing the A game for NCCC. I'll have Steve ducking all day from flying jigs and beavers! :)

i got my spot picked out and am gunnin' for the big fish trophy. Limits are good, but there's gonna be a world of difference between now and NCCC game day with the significant change in water temp and weather conditions. bring a rattle trap or jerk bait to go with that topwater. also look at a speed trap for high-tide conditions in early morning.
keep in mind that the fish will have had 3-days of FLW guys beating up your water before you get to it. attend the final weigh-in to find out how they got 'em.

Well, at least there are only 10 FLW boats the last day. Maybe we should just pound the docks around Russo's where all those fish get released.

You think the drop in air/water temp will turn on the reaction bite? Or are the fish going to shut down for a bit until things are more stable?

We won't have to pound the docks because Cliff will be releasing them in the middle of Franks or up in Taylor.

Thanks, Jim.

From reading the FLW stories:

Looks like Reynolds and Ish were both flipping Beavers. Reynolds has been deadsticking, Ish has been using a tungsten weight.(punching?) The winning co-angler was dropshotting Berkley power worms.

My buddy was out yesterday and said the water temp had dropped from 68 last week to 60. It's also a lot muddier than it's been from the high winds. So, I'm gonna throw a frog all day - the fish will never expect that! ;)

See you guys tomorrow. Good luck out there!

That's what I told you. We'll need to fish slow and probably deadstick.

'Was dog-tired by the time I got home last night. But, I had trouble sleeping. There was a funny smell in the air...was it a Smelly Beaver? Was it R. Martin's B.O.?
...
It smelled like victory. Nice job, guys. :)

*Hey Brit, you should have used the mic to tell everyone you were cranking w/ a beaver as a trailer - you would have started a whole new Delta trend. Maybe they'll ask you to be a speaker at the Bass Pro opening. ;)

I got caught in that same mess. 'Figures...I think we have the same exit. I finally exited on Eden Canyon and drove through CV and Hayward to get back to Union City.

I'm glad you got help for your smelly beaver problem. Stay strong, man. You're an inspiration to us all. ;)

Brit,

I'm only about 10 min from you. Just south of where Industrial hits Union City Blvd. Our office used to be on Mission Blvd just across from the Chubby Burger. We're over next to Logan now on Alvarado-Niles and Decoto.
