I'm intrigued to see what players from various era's that have been invited to attend and join the other Western Suburbs Greats that have been listed as special guests. Surely the club and board has a database of past players or at least has contact to many that have pulled on the Black and White. Considering this event is the biggest of it's kind for this Football club, and is the official formal centenary event for the Magpies. I know many fans would like to see their former idols and hero's in attendance. Being a younger generation Magpie, i'd love to see as many Magpie players from the 90's era at Campbelltown, invited and urged to attend this prestigous event. In the past we've seen players from the late 50's, 60's and 70's dominate the formal dinner's and events. I guess that's mainly due to their association with the Pratten Park Magpies. But surely there has to be some sort of connection and contact with players from the 80's and 90's who were inspirational during two of the toughest era's the club endured as it continously faced adversity only to overcome it and grow taller, stronger and better. I think i'd also be right in saying this, but depending on what players from specific era's have been invited and are attending it may either convince or deter fans and members from attending. Personally i'd like to see an array of players. A real good mix and blend from all decades. That would truely make it an Centenary event to remember. |

We're inviting everyone we can get in contact with. I'd hope all players from all eras (and all grades) who can make it do come. I'll try and keep you up to date with acceptances of past players, but I can't make any guarantees. |

I am in contact with Buddha Mish. If you are with Kenny, it might be a good idea to let him know ASAP or pass his contact details on to the club via Mr. Andrew Waite who is a Director of the Club who uses this forum frequently. And i'm sure like Buddha, Kenny still keeps in touch with other Magpie players. I know Buddha is actually playing with Damien Kennedy at Wests Wollongong and still has a close relationship with Steve Georgallis, Ronald Jones and Travis Baker. So word of mouth would definitely see more past players in attendance, which will very much make the evening. Surely Langmack, the Willis', Harvey and co. will all be contactable. |

Regardless of your 'highly valued' opinion of Langmack who spent 8 tough seasons at Western Suburbs and led the club as Captain for a good 6 years shed alot of blood, sweat and tears for the Magpies jersey. His emotion for the club when we kept our 1996 finals hopes alive by defeating North Sydney, 23-22 on a cold Monday night will forever remain with me. I don't think i've ever seen a Captain and player react with so much passion, and to think we still had another 2 games remaining. But just knowing it kept the vision and dream alive, it was enough for him to go off like we'd just won the comp! Langmack could have easily left and returned to Canterbury or another club but he stood strong and helped strive to keep Western Suburbs as competitive as they could possibly be with a bunch of no names and kids coming through the ranks. His expereince was irreplaceable. He played a vital part and role as a leader, and was rewarded as the Dally M Captain of the Year in 1995. Yes Langers and Tommy had a fall out, but they were not the first and won't be the plast player/coach to have a feud in Rugby League. I for one hope Langers is one of the Greats invited to the Black & White Ball from the 90's. He's a Magpie Legend in my eyes. Having watched him on the Hill at Campbelltown Sports Ground when he first came from the Bulldogs back in '91 as a 7 year old, he was always a favourite, and still is one of the best lock forwards I've seen. The body of a backrower, the brain and skill of a half. |

I can't think of a single player I wouldn't want to come. They have all made a contribution to our club and it would be great to be able to celebrate our centenary with as many of them as possible. So if you played for the Maggies, (from 100 games in First Grade to guys who only ever sat on the bench for Harold Matthews) and want to celebrate your part of the club's history please contact: Melanie Hendra International Events 02 8306 9555 melanie@internationalevents.com.au If you know any ex-Magpie players, (or supporters, volunteers, staff etc) please forward the details of the event to them. We're aiming high, and want the Black and White Ball to be THE biggest celebration of any club in the Centenary of our game. |

I sent 2SM an email this arvo asking for the boys to give the black & White Ball a plug with all the info. I got a reply from Ben who said that the Talkin' Sport Team is trying to organise either Arthur Summons or Peter Dimond to talk to Graeme Hughes to promote the Black & White Ball. The interview will take place between 1-5pm this coming Saturday afternoon. So tune in gang... |

For those that listen to 2UE of a day, I contacted Tim Webster who has generously agreed to also give the Black & White Ball a plug this afternoon on his talkback program from Midday-3pm. |

Good work Gobbledock. We're obviously trying to promote the event through as many avenues as we can, but nothing beats the old word of mouth. If anyone listens to (or even better is a caller) to a radio show get on there and spread the word. We have 21 more days to promote this thing. Also use the email people. Don't assume for a second that your Magpie loving friend knows the event is on or where to buy their ticket - so send them an email with the details and prod them to come along. Let's make sure Melanie Hendra is a very busy lady for the next three weeks. |
