good on the Saints honestly do not understand why they don't win more games, watched Camden beat Oakdale today an entertaining game Zac Besant for Camden my player of the day, Oakdale could have had more points if number 3 used the players around him, Camden deserved winners. Who else watched games played today? any scores? |

Pretty poor observation, your obviously a Camden man, so you know who number 3 for Oakdale is. Take your cheap shots elsewhere |

Well done to Easts beating us all in all 3 grades yesterday, we are establishing a strong cross town rivalry there. It's great we are playing senior footy again in a top local competition. Magpies diehards would be interested in the debut of 'Krakatoa' Asa for our club yesterday, he was brilliant in leading our forward pack. |

Moss Vale had good wins yesterday winning 36-6 in reserves and 24-10 in first grade, lost the u/18 ,25-18. Was an average game in first grade , more stoppages than a gridiron game , no continuity both teams were never settled. Mossy have bragging rights in the highlands now.

must say the easts and campbeilltown city game was a cracker maybe the next time they play they should advertise it abit more n play it on a friday night. Cause i definately think it would bring a massive crowd and other teams would want them to bash it each other. they should also make a heritage round too i think that would also be a great concept to have but thats just a though wat do u guys reckon |

Well done to everyone involved in the city v East game, we can see many grudge matches in the future, shame it was played infront of an ordinary crowed, Eagles all three grades but will be another good hit out in round 2, maybe at Waminda international Stadium in front of a large hostile crowed. |

Edited by Warriors78, Today, 7:25 AM. The local rags have done there best to support the local competition, but frequent changes and poor communication from competition organisers have left the local papers questioning what they may put in, it's the clubs efforts that is getting and promoting the competition, organisers could do so much more, every week there should be a game of the week in Liverpool, MacArthur and wollindilly papers, get bums on seats. |

Part two of Billy's solution to the problems plaguing Group 6. Last week I offered that Group 6 needs to have control of the Joint Competition, more should be done to promote the local game, new sponsors be sought and clubs build their membership. Clubs, supporters and players need to be on board, but it starts from the top. Pro-active: The Management and administrators of rugby league in the area and the state need to be more innovative and not be sitting on their hands. Whilst the competition merger was seen as a marriage of convenience for 2 dying competitions it has alienated clubs and officials. If Wests are to be seen as Group 6's savior they need to come to the party with some sponsorship dollars and some access to the Wests Tigers juggernaut. Likewise the CRL, who took the unreasonable threat of sacking any new Management Committee that was against a Wests merger, needs to be seen to be assisting and supporting one of their blue ribbon areas. The NRL takes pre season games out to the country, has the idea of a pre season game played in Group 6 been floated as a possible money earner for the competition? Has the CRL and NSWRL opened the coffers to fight the so called AFL war? Has the CRL had talks to councils about putting aside land for future footy fields, especially in the new Oran Park corridor? Has Wests Magpies considered approaching CRL/Gr 6 and going in together in their search for a new HQ? Community: There was once a time where the Sunday game was a great day out for the locals who could get together, have a beer, support their club and then go to the pub afterwards for dinner. With the shift in demographics, other forms of entertainment and live NRL games on TV the rugby league at this level has lost its mojo. Go to a Saturday afternoon Rugby Union game at Camden and the atmosphere is ten times more exciting, the mood jovial and positive and the crowd go home happy. It's time again for clubs to get out there and take back their town! Enthusiasm: Go to any Group 6 game and you will not see a Management Committee member. If they are there they are sitting in their cars. To be fair dinkum about improving the competition they need to see the standard of footy on show, hear the comments the supporters are raising, view the referees, count the numbers in the crowd and get an overall view of the state of the code. Sitting at home and going to meetings isn't doing anyone any good. Some of the Group 6 Management Committee are there for show as their input is minimal and it's about time a new broom is swept in with fresh ideas, a commitment to succeed and a desire to make Group a leading competition again. Common Sense: Unfortunately this is lacking in a number of areas. Easy issues where a simple solution can solve a problem have been complicated by a view that rules are rules and petty politics play a part in the decision making process. Take the Oakdale and their loss of competition points, the 2 byes each weekend, East Campbelltown officials barred for making private comments in a pub, life members being banned and the grand finals host being decided on the whim of Management. The Management Committee needs to lose its veto power at AGMs and General Meetings where their block of 7 votes stifles any chance that clubs have of implementing change. Next weekend there is no local football due to the Southern Senior Championships being conducted at Pambula. That's right, we have a Group 6 team in the seriesagainst Groups 7, 9, 10, 16 & 20. Who is in the team? Nobody knows, not even the organisers who have been quoted on the CRL website as saying: "The Group 6 side is unknown at this stage, but I would expect it to contain some high profile |

sorry guys this is the first issue As promised, this week I present the solutions to Group 6's problems, or so I think. Once I started, I realised there are more ideas than space, so this week is Part One. I'm mindful that I have been critical lately and it must be pointed out that management committees generally are volunteers, though some members are paid a stipendiary and therefore are accountable to the clubs. Ownership: Group 6, Wests, the CRL and NSWRL need to work out who is to run the Combined Competition. As it is at the moment clubs from both districts virtually have different rules, different entry fees, different player payments and different ideologies. My view is Group 6 needs to take control as it is the stronger entity in terms of playing strength and numbers of players and clubs in first grade. Once that is sorted out a business plan can be created to build finances and club profitability and a holistic approach to media, promotions, development and game operations can be formulated and carried out professionally. Promotion: As it is no-one knows who is playing who, where and how much it is going to cost. Publicity officers should be working very hard distributing information to the media, updating websites and generally trying various promotions such as local derbies, double headers, 2 for 1 entry fees, heritage games, kids in for free etc to get more people to games, even if that means even reducing the entry fee further from $6 to $5. Clubs need to take ownership of this as well, as they are the ones which will benefit from more people through the turnstiles. The competition is stale, there is no buzz and players aren't attracted to the district. Memberships: The NRL has seen the light and followed AFL's lead and have enthusiastically increased the membership of clubs. As more members sign up crowds increase at games, supporters take ownership of their local club, businesses jump on board and coffers are filled at games. With grants from leagues club diminishing a new income stream was needed to be developed by NRL clubs, and local clubs can certainly follow the lead shoring up their future. Sponsors: A quick look at the Group 6 website tells a sorry tale with only four sponsors on board. Either the management committee has sat on its hands over summer or businesses don't won't a bar of Group 6, and both are real probabilities. A competition covering the area from Warragamba to Moss Vale in one of the fastest growing areas of Australia must surely be attractive to a multi national company. Together with the Wests district that doubles the exposure and the competition has a nursery and demographic market equal to any district in the state. Use this potential to sell the naming rights to a market leader. Keep the letters coming in to editor |
