EAST Campbelltown Eagles Rugby League Club can forget the disruption of last season with news their Waminda Oval homeground is about to undergo a $120,000 facelift.

The Eagles spent most of the 2009 season searching for an alternative venue to play their Bundaberg Red Cup games after officials decreed Waminda Oval not up to scratch.

The Federal Government grant will fund a new amenities block and clubhouse. Another $40,000 grant will provide grandstand seating.

An Eagles spokesman said the club was keen to start the new season and make the most of the upgraded facilities.

“Waminda Oval was built in 1968 and the grant will be warmly welcomed to the area,” he said. “The club would like to thank (former mayor) Russell Matheson and Campbelltown Council for their support in this project.”

He added the Eagles also would announce a new major sponsor for the 2010 season in coming weeks.

Meanwhile, preparations for the new season are progressing well.

Scott Davey has returned to coach the Bundaberg Red Cup team and will be assisted by Jason Small with Mick Cronin taking charge of strength and conditioning.

Jason Hazelton has been recruited from Camden Rams and will take over the Easts first grade team along with Richard Barnes.

Darcy Brown, who took reserve grade to the 2009 grand final, returns for another stab at the title. Newcomer Gary Potts will take on third grade and 2009 premiership-winning coach Troy Millard will again take on the under-18s.

The Bundaberg Red Cup team train Tuesday and Thursdays from 6.30pm at Waminda Oval.

* Easts have a February 12 trial match against Wests Tigers under-20s. Venue to be confirmed.

about time. anyone who saw macarthur rams soccer setup (better than any Carlton League field) or the Harlequins could rightfully ask why senior league has not been afforded a like venue in the c'town area.
