Yeah they are. With City, All saints and collegians going up to 1sts third grade will be alot smaller than last year and 1sts grade will be very strong indeed. Mittagong started last friday and had 20plus i was told.

Warriors78 hope you get that team on the paddock as it gives you somthing to build on.

The comeback of the Campbelltown City Kangaroos football club to Group 6 is progressing very strongly, according to Head Coach Alex Melville.

"Coming back after effectively what is 26 years of senior dormancy, we had to hit the ground running. We have averaged 45 players at training throughout December and will field competitive teams in 1st Grade, Reserve Grade and U/18s".

The 'Roos have put together an impressive sponsor list, with Wests Leagues Club Campbelltown being named as 1st Grade sponsor, Court Tavern the Reserve Grade sponsor and Marsdens Law Group coming on board as sleeve and U/18's sponsor.

"All three are traditional Kangaroos businesses. It is nice that in our return season, they have all rallied to the blue and gold", Melville remarked.

Melville has been successful in luring several experienced players to the club, including former Penrith Panthers Jersey Flegg star, Brad Goodwin.

"Brad is tough as teak and will add a lot to our forward pack."

It is going to be a busy year for the coach, having just been appointed as an Assistant Coach with the Penrith NRL team.

"Yeah, Matt's [Elliott] call came from the blue. It's great to be given another opportunity to work in fulltime footy. The guys at City were worried that I'd not be able to coach them, but rest assured I'll do both in 2010. When our schedules conflict, I have two very experienced assistants at the 'Roos in Gary Syron and Matt Fenn who will deputise.

"Our players are enjoying and benefitting from training under an NRL style system.

"The return of the Kangaroo football club to senior competition is something very dear to me and a lot of people around this town."

Campbelltown City Kangaroos senior training; every Tuesday and Thursday night at Stromeferry Reserve Raby from 6.30pm- 8.00pm.

A RETURN to familiar surroundings should bode well for Campbelltown City Kangaroos' first grade rugby league captain Kevin McGuinness.

The former NRL player will be back training at the ground where his footy career started as a Jersey Flegg player, at Stromeferry Reserve, St Andrews.

It will be a big year for the Kangaroos in their return to the Group 6/Wests combined competition, but McGuinness believes the team will make an impact.

Aged 33, McGuinness believes the Kangaroos could be the ``dark horse'' of the competition.

He has vowed to give his all to help his teammates reach their goals and produce a successful season.

``I didn't come here to stand behind my own try line and watch other teams kick goals,'' McGuinness said.

``I really want to help the young lads out and give them a hand.

``I do think there might be expectations on me to be able to play like I used to so I'm up for the challenge, too.

``This is where it all began for me playing in the area as a young boy for Minto Cobras and I want to give back to this footy community as much as it gave me when I was a young lad at times when I needed it most.''

McGuinness can draw on experience he gained playing 231 first grade games with Western Suburbs Magpies, Wests Tigers and Manly in the NRL and Salford City Reds in the UK Super League.

Nicknamed ``Buddha'', McGuinness led Wests Wollongong to the Carlton League title last season and is confident the Kangaroos can establish themselves against league heavyweights.

``My nephew plays in the under-12s here, I want to show him that his old uncle can still play a bit,'' he said.

``I'm willing to play anywhere the coach feels it will benefit the team the most.

``I've been playing a bit of five-eighth and centre in the Illawarra comp.

``The boys are pumped and they're excited. Training has been great, fitness is going to be our baby this year.

``They train hard and if they can show the same amount of passion in games as they do in training, we'll certainly win more games than we'll lose.''

Kangaroos' senior training takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at Stromeferry Reserve, Raby.
