ACCORDING to the Lunar New Year it's the Year of the Tiger, but the boys at Kirkham Park have 100 reasons to hope 2010 will also be the Year of the Ram.
Camden Rams Rugby League Club plan to celebrate its 100th anniversary in style with winning performances on the field.

New first grade coach Mark De Ubago will coach a team which includes some familiar faces and new recruits from his former club, Cabramatta.

``I think the 100th year is something that should motivate the entire club, its supporters and the entire Camden area, but it would be great to win, so all you old boys and sponsors should get on board,'' De Ubago said.

The Rams will be without last season's Group 6 Player of the Year, Chris Browne, who will play in the Illawarra this year.

``We have lost quite a few players this year, it's a shame but these things happen'' De Ubago said.

``I am still hopeful a few of the local players will come back, it's the club's 100th year and I'd like to think that a few of them would want to be part of that, even if not playing, they could help out at the club to guide the juniors through.

``We haven't signed any big name players; what we did sign is a core of young players mixed in with the local boys on the verge of playing first grade.

``I think the club and the community should be very excited about what they will see this year.''

Intent on improving the skills of each player in his team, De Ubago hopes the recipe for success arises from basic drills at training, but he realises there will be a few teams capable of spoiling their anniversary year.

``It's hard to say how we'll go as it's a whole new side, but I will just keep it simple and if the team gels together and believe in one another, then it's a 50-50 chance we will make the semis,'' De Ubago said.

``There's some great talent here and the fans will know soon enough who to watch out for.

``I think our strengths will be our speed and skill, it will be a young side with plenty to prove.

``The results are just an extension of how the team commits to one another and to the job at hand, so that's what I will be working on.''
