I think it will be a high scoring game, both teams have fantastic attack!
Agreed :correct: but with both sides that good in attack probably the side with the best line defence on the day will take the trophy. The thing going for Oakdale is they have lost the last 4 encounters and that enhances their odds of winning sooner or later. (I just hope its later)
agree with you maverick, the same thing happened last year with everyone writing off moss vale because they hadnt beaten east campbelltown all year yet the dragons defeated them in the grand final qualifier, so anything can happen on the day. Who is the ref for the big one?
It will come down to who controls the ruck better and hopefully no one really notices the ref out there and lakes it a nice flowing game ...

The weather will be a big factor if it reaches the heights expected. It will become a game for the little men to dominate with the big boppers doing it tough, the middle will open up like Sydney heads. Though being unlimited interchange, the opportunities will have to be taken with two hands when it presents itself. I honestly can't go past Hoare and Dunley. If Easts are to win it will be on the back of these two players, and I'm tipping one of them as man of the match.

31 degrees it will be exhausting hopefully by 3pm it will be cooling down, all I know is it's going to be a massive day for the eagles and it would be great for us to bring home 2 trophies back to campbelltown.

I Think Oakdale work hard in the ruck but in my opinion get away with holding down too long when opponents find hands and knees yet rarley get penalised for it

Group 6 crunch time

THE Group 6 rugby league presentation took place on Friday and Campbelltown Eagles scooped many of the awards.
Eagle Wayde Dunley was named the player of the year award, coaches Jason Hazelton and Richard Barnes shared the coach of the year accolade and Stephen Harding won the leading point scorer award with six tries and 74 goals for tally of 172 points.

The referee of the year award went to Glen Whiteman who was overlooked for a finals game on the weekend.

The established whistleblower received votes from all first grade Group 6 coaches.

The Gary Dowling Rising Star Award went to Camden's Dean Britt and the Hilton Middleton Merit Award went to Oakdale's David Lowe.

Leading try scorer was Mahn Darley from Camden, who scored 20 tries in 11 games.

Kirkham Park, Camden will host the Group 6 grand finals on Sunday.

The Eagles will play Oakdale in Sunday's first grade grand final after Oakdale's 40-16 victory over Picton on Sunday.

Oakdale coach Brendon Reeves said Oakdale had a terrible start.

"We knocked on from the kick-off and Picton had scored before the ground announcer had announced the teams," Reeves said.

"We will need to fix this area up to be competitive.

"Picton came to play and were unlucky not to score some more tries, Nick Taylor was very good.

"We held our nerve though and produced some really good tries, Kyle Weh scored three and had a blinder and Ben Fryer was players' player."

Reeves and his team have been on the losing side this season in their encounters with the Eagles, but he is hoping to reverse the trend when it counts in Sunday's blockbuster at 3pm.

"The Eagles have beaten us four times this year, they have the player of the year, runner-up to player of the year and coaches of the year," Reeves said.

Although my team Campbelltown Eagles 3rd grade did make it to the big one, we will be all there cheering on our reserve and 1st grade teams, both have been the bench-mark all year for all other teams to follow, wether you like our club or not, this weekend is a culmination of many years work by some wonderful people who have always had the best interest of the players at heart. There have been many road-blocks along the way and i guess none more than this year, yet in all grades at the Eagles we have been able to compete amid the adversity and egotistical behaviour of a minority, having been involved in Rugby League for many years i doubt that there would be many other clubs who would survive what has been thrown at the Eagles and still remain a force that we are.

Very best of luck to Barnsey and Hazo and also Daniel with the reggies, 3rd grade will be there in our colours, cheering on the boys LOUD AND PROUD.

Match review from Picton's website:

http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?client=0-2396-21996-0-0&sID=76168&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=16927615&sectionID=76168

I’ve had a great deal of trouble getting motivated for this week’s column. You see, the dream is over. We’re finished. Done and dusted. That’s it. All over. No soup for you!

Our boys travelled to Oakdale to take on the Oakdale Workers in a sudden death final to see who would make the big Grand Final this coming weekend against, oh I can’t even remember who the other team is, I’m too distraught. Now I don't know what to do. It's the 1st time since 1995 that Picton has not had a single team in the senior grand finals. That's right, 1995. I was in my first year of under18's, watching other clubs contest the big game. I still managed to wag school to participate in Mad Monday celebrations though. I remember Shane Moss buying me my first ever Midori and Milk. Ahh good times. But, Mum if you're reading, that story is just to add some colour, it didn't really happen. Everyone else, it did.

Things were looking great when Oakdale’s Ronnie Jones knocked on from the kick off. Approximately 45 seconds later Will Dreves placed a lovely little grubber into the in goal for Nick Taylor to swoop on. It was just like in 1994 when big Marty Bella from Canterbury fumbled the kick off allowing Canberra to score early and go on to dish them up a gigantic hiding. Unfortunately in this instance, things did not work out quite the same way.

Although Ronnie Jones did his best to help us out with another fumble which led to a Mitch Gleeson try from a Matt Eckler kick, the day belonged to Oakdale. They went on to give us a bit of a touch up by 40-16, after a tight 1st half where they led by only 14-10. I’m not sure what happened at half time, but in the 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd half I was going between the canteen and the beer tent searching in vain for some kind of refreshment. By the time I turned around Oakdale had scored three times to lead 30-10 with half an hour to go. It was pretty much game over. I’m not sure what happened, but I can only assume that a combination of the referee cheating and the home crowd got the Workers over the line.

Speaking of the crowd, I have to say that I am so unbelievably disappointed in Oakdale. They have allowed a slack-jawed yokel into their midst who has adopted the clever Picton Magpies related sledge of “Pointy Head”. For those of you who don’t understand the ‘pointy head’ sledge, let me explain.

Approximately a decade ago, when the Thirlmere Roosters ‘Cone Hill’ was at the peak of its powers, one of the simpletons in the chook pen came up with the greatest sledge of all time. While experiencing a marijuana-induced hallucination during a Picton-Thirlmere local derby, one of the Roosters faithful had a vision of a magpie swooping gracefully down upon some fat kid riding his push bike while eating a paddle pop. While admiring this most noble, territorial bird of prey, he noticed something extraordinary: the magpie has a pointy beak! Still in the midst of his hash-dream, the stoned rooster fan shouted “Pointy Head! Pointy Head!” Naturally the rest of the roosters faithful, upon hearing the most intelligent thing ever uttered on Cone Hill, took up the chant with gusto: “Pointy Head! Pointy Head!”

For 10 years now Picton players have had to endure this sledge with good grace, offering only a smile and a wink in return. For, how else could we ever respond to such a cutting remark?! It is so incredibly witty! In case any of you don’t get it yet, I’ll make it clear: Magpies have a pointy beak. The beak is on their head. Therefore: ‘Pointy Head’. The perfect sledge.

I’ve spent much time during the week trying to use this same logic to come up with something similar for other clubs. Because, really, why should we be the only group 6 team that has to endure the agony of the ultimate verbal check mate?! I’m sure mine are not half as good, but here goes:

Appin Dogs – “Snout Head”.

Camden Rams – “Wool Head”.

Campbelltown Kangaroos – “Skippy Head”.

Macarthur Bulls – “Horny Head”.

Moss Vale Dragons – “Flame Head”.

Narellan Jets – “Cockpit Head”.

Oakdale Workers – “Pick axe Head”

The Oaks Tigers – “Stripe Head”

Warragamba Wombats – “Hairy-Nose Head”

And finally:

Thirlmere Roosters – “Rubber Glove Head”

That’s right, using the same piece of inspired logic (although without the use of marijuana) I have noticed that the flappy bit on top of a roosters head looks a bit like a rubber glove. Take that Cone Hill!

So, as I was saying, to my absolute disappointment, an Oakdale Workers supporter adopted the “Pointy Head” sledge and used it pretty much constantly throughout the 1st grade fixture. I mean, come on! Fair’s fair! I know it’s sudden death, but there are some thing's you just don’t say! How are any of our players supposed to stay focussed on the game when they are being peppered with “go home Pointy Head” for 80 minutes?! It’s no wonder we lost by 24 points.

Upon further investigation I worked out who the perpetrator was. Donned in cowboy hat, boots, and dryz-a-bone, the hill-billy who is known only as ‘Cletus’ is now on my most wanted list for a verbal spray. I guarantee he drives one of those stupid utes with the ridiculous bull-bar, fake aerials and ‘Bundy rum’ stickers all over it and attends ‘B and S’ balls (otherwise known as f*#kwit conventions) twice a month. Seriously Cletus, if you’re from Oakdale you live in Wollondilly. There are no cowboys in Wollondilly, only people who pretend to be. They are more commonly known as ‘wankers’.

So anyway, this Sunday Oakdale take on the Campbelltown Eagles in the grand final. I’ll be cheering for the ‘Workers’. They’ve always been my second favourite club, I just hope I see Cletus so I can politely ask him to return the cleverest sledge of all time to it’s rightful home: Roosterville. And seriously, to anyone that has ever uttered the words ‘pointy head’, you have an IQ of 48 and are what some people would call “mentally retarded”.

And another thing:

Thanks to everyone who has read my columns this year, and especially those of you who’ve encouraged me to keep going. You’ve helped me rekindle my love of writing and reminded me how big a fan I am of me! Now that footy season is just about over I may just have to find something new to write about every week. Stay tuned!
