Mustangs charge to victory http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/mustangs-charge-to-victory/2306632.aspx ![]() Against all odds: Captain Luke Colless with coach Jason Ward holding the Group 6 under-18/2 shield with the Mustangs team in the background. Picture: Chris De Jong RUGBY league fan and parent Mick Quinn has been inspired by the under-18/2 Group 6 grand final-winning Mount Annan Mustangs team in which his son Nicholas plays. The Mustangs defeated Warragamba 28-27 in last week's thrilling premiership decider at Kirkham Park. Mustangs tries went to Jake Johnson (two), Jack Duval (two) and one to Chris Brown. Tye Defarria kicked four goals. Quinn described the boys' victory as a moment to savour in what he described as a year of turmoil for the team. "These kids, as far as I'm concerned, are absolute champions," he said. "Eight kids were suspended in June for having a bit of a food fight at McDonald's. "It wasn't that serious but a 12-month ban has resulted in what is really a two-season ban. "It's a good group of kids who were dealt a blow by Group 6. "They've had to overcome a lot of obstacles." Quinn said the Mustangs were on the wrong end of the scoreline in previous meetings with their grand final opponents. "This side has been beaten by the Mustangs by 40 or 50 points in a game before," he said. "So, to win their grand final was inspirational, they dug in deep to win it. "They had a few 16-year-olds backing up for them as well. "I cannot be prouder of what they have achieved against all odds." Despite eight players being unavailable for the grand final, the team emerged triumphant. "They are a great group of 16 to 18-year-old boys — not men — having a lot of fun and learning the value of mateship and digging in and supporting each other. It was a pity they were treated like men [in regard to the suspensions] and not the 16 to 18 years they were," Quinn said. |

The Mt Annan Mustangs are the soccer club in the area. Bad mistake by the paper. Great sounding name for a footy team though. |
