I think that is a common sense approach tc. Does the points committee just take a clubs word for it that a player is worth a certain amount of points? Is there any comprehensive background checks on player histories? Being a research and footy tragic I know for certain that you would be surprised about a number of players and where their junior origins are... There needs to be full transparency and rigorous background checks on players, the internet is a marvelous tool and unfortunately no one can hide from their past anymore. In relation to Easts, there are a very well run club with a strong playing roster and loads of depth. I find it unusual that they have seen the need to seek so many new players when I thought they had been building a strong club for a number of years?? By signing blokes like, dunley, waqa, neemya, blunden, hoare etc, it seems to go against what easts have been building for a number of years now, especially now players are going to miss out who have been there a while. Looks as though they are trying to buy a comp? The points system was introduced to prevent teams from simply doing that. As for their points situation.. They should never have to worry about it, however I think this year they will.
When you say "buy a comp" you should ask around how much Mossvale spent last year to win that comp. If what I am told is correct they spent huge bickies last year.

And as I have said in an earlier post, Blunden is a 2 point Easts junior, so why wouldn't they want him and as far as the others go, I am sure the numbers have been crunched to make it work.
I find Blunden hard to believe. He played 2 years at Easts prior. He's already been at all saints for 3 years.
Poor form.
easts should punt thier developement co ordinater bloke :hey: his letting em down and he needs to give himself a few upper cuts :fight:
maybe fence sitters dad can do a better job he seems to be in the know and can keep thier player recruitment and points in order

going out to check out camden and narellan tonight for a few :drink: i hear camden will run riot over a below par narellan outfit ;) by all reports narellan will struggle this season so ill jump on the odds for them to stir the pot at seasons end :yeah:
Where is Blue Devil? Has he been banned? Would be good to get some answers, do you know Disco?
I watched this young Blunden play last year and wasn't all that impressed and apart from the hit at Oakdale he hasn,t really stood out and I don't think it matters what point player he is and regardless of his past playing record is, he has to prove himself in group 6. I am not putting him down and wish him well, this is just my observation, he has been talked up a fair bit I just hope he can live up to it.
How long is an apprenticeship in G6? He played G6 last year for All Saints and was picked by the Eagles as their starting prop for this year. I dont think he has to prove himself to you or anyone else as long as the Eagles are happy with him. The talking up was more about the hit on Dave Lowe which was talked about by many (and deservedbly so) and the the other talk was more about the interpretatation of the 2 point rule between myself and TC. Last year he would be guaranteed a start with All Saints every game where this year he has to earn his spot every week. If he cant perform I am sure the Eagles will replace him.

Yeah well done Oaks.
Was a good day out there, and everyone at the ground will agree, Refereeing is a big sore point. I think he blew about 40 penalties for various indiscretions. I think it was about 20 each, right JT?
that doesn't matter though
Score was 28-25 well done Tigers.

JT not sure about your 18s each time i have seen them play they do not have a full team. And with only one division it might be a long season.

I still think the $8 per head, even for players is a bit rich. The mrs says she isn't coming every week now.

Dragons snuffed out

New Mittagong captain Ryan Powell burrows over for a try in the Lions’ big 40-18 win over Moss Vale at Community Oval yesterday.

MITTAGONG Lions roared loud and proud at Community Oval yesterday afternoon, defeating defending Group 6 rugby league premiers Moss Vale 40-18, in a highly anticipated all-Highlands season opener. The Dragons never seemed to be in the match and the Lions piled on five tries before half-time.Skipper Willie McDonald, who was sidelined with an ankle injury, said it was a disappointing start to the season, but the Dragons had no one to blame but themselves.

"We had a couple of injuries but that's no excuse. They turned up on the day to play better than us. I think they just wanted it more than us," he said.

"Besides one or two players out there, most were just pretty lethargic and didn't look like they were that keen to play."

Tim Small and Shane Martin scored for the Dragons, to ease the widening scoreline, but a late try by Damian Barton did little to help their cause.

New Mittagong skipper Ryan Powell injected himself into the game with enthusiasm, scoring a try and converting a number of kicks. He said their victory came down to their game plan.

"I guess sticking to our game plan. We came with a very simple game plan and we did it for most of the game. We had a few lapses but for the first game in pretty warm conditions the boys stuck in there and did what we asked," he said.

It was not all bad news for the Dragons, and McDonald said new fullback Michael Wortz was the best player on the field.McDonald also said Josh Champion and Martin played well despite the loss.

Powell however, was reluctant to single any individual player out.

"I think Warrick Carter at the back was phenomenal and his brother [Robbie] in the middle. I can't really take away from anyone else, everyone did their job and did really well," he said.

For the Dragons, it will be back to the drawing board, and McDonald said what they needed was a change in attitude.

"Definitely disappointing. I think it's more attitude and you can't really practice that," he said.

"It's whether the players want to do that or not. Congratulations to Mittagong and Ryan Powell, first time coaching up here so they deserve to win they played better than us on the day."

Mittagong dominanted all three games, with the under-18s and reserve graders also winning the opening matches. In round two, Moss Vale play Campbelltown Kangaroos and Mittagong take on Oakdale away.

A big thanks to all from my club, really enjoyed our debut yesterday against the Kangaroos, was great to be in a relaxed atmosphere. Was even better that the boy's got up for a good win and still a lot of improvement in us.

I Went to the All Saints game yesterday, the players were charged $2 and the rest of us $5 which I thought was fair. I know its not G6 but they covered their referees costs with this amount and they cant sell alcohol.

That's great for the game, anyone that seen the Eagles V Kangaroos almost witnessed an upset with 20 to go the roos led 32-30, the Eagles come home strong on the back of fitness, but the roos will be there come semis, great day and a great crowed!
