Murchie's future in the balance BY LAUREN WRIGHT http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/murchies-future-in-the-balance/2135283.aspx 15 Apr, 2011 12:00 AM ![]() Ben Murchie being taken away by ambulance. A SIMPLE tackle gone wrong. What seemed an ordinary tackle for Ben Murchie on Sunday in the Moss Vale Dragon's first grade match against Campbelltown City Kangaroos was anything but.Murchie was taken from the field by ambulance and left behind worried teammates and friends who were not sure what had happened.Dragons Rugby League Club president Greg Maloney said on Wednesday Murchie had a crushed vertebrae and at this stage it appeared he would not return to the football field again. "Everyone in the club is terrible upset," he said. Maloney said doctors had decided to wait until the end of the week to decide whether surgery was necessary and see how it settled. "It appeared to be an ordinary tackle. He's a very talented young player...looks like the end of his playing career," he said. While Maloney said Murchie was upset on Monday, he was in good spirits on Tuesday as he realised it could have been a lot worse. "He's starting to see the positives. It could have been a lot worse. Everyone is wishing him the best," he said. Maloney said when Murchie had recovered, he would return to the club and help off the field. The Dragons still had a number of players out with injuries, and Maloney said Murchie was a big blow for them, but there was no choice but to cop it on the chin.Despite the mounting injury list, Maloney said it was no reason for them not to perform, and if Murchie had not been injured they had a very good chance of winning their match last Sunday." The whole club played with courage and determination. We were down a lot of troops but they did dig in," he said. The Dragons face Oakdale this Sunday at Community Oval (2.30pm), and Maloney said the home crowd advantage would definitely help them."We're hoping to put it behind us and start getting our season back on track," he said.. Murchie is out of hospital, no permenant damage he has a break in a vertabrae and compression of vertabrae definately will not return this year and future playing career not certain but the most important thing is that he is still walking. |

Watched Camden v Mittagong tonight, Mittagong were super impressive in the first 30 minutes. I must say the refereeing is horrible at the moment. Way too many penalties for trivial do-do, and the ruck penalties are completely wrong.Tonights official was borderline incompetent. This is not Rugby, pick your games up referees. Well done to Camden, they played well in the 2nd half. Camden 33 def Mitta 16. Also Easts 54 def Narellan 18 |
