The Bigshow
Apr 18 2011, 02:19 PM
I ventured out to watch Campbelltown Eagles vs Narellan on Saturday night in the freezing cold. I unfortunately missed BD playing in the reserves although he informs me he is still on the nudie run as his younger teammates wont pass him the ball with the tryline open.

In the first 10 minutes the score line was 18-nil to the eagles. Very Clinincal display from their team. The hooker and halfback are directing very well around the park. They use a lot of left to right play and tried to blow Narellan off the park in the early going. Great goal kicking display from their centre.

Narellan managed to peg a couple of tries back but overall it was the eagles night.

It was a freezing night for April. I wouldnt like to be playing on a saturday night in the middle July.

Anyway, based on what I saw, they will be very tough to beat. Id love to watch them when they come up against Oakdale. I think it would be a cracker.
It was good to catch up with you Bigshow, you must look at the comp and wonder what could of been? I see you club All Saints had a great opportunity and future as a prominate group 6 club, but we will never know!

You look at our side and you understand why we had to push for Group 6, 6 players making the Rep Side, well done to Amo, Mazeen, Sammy, Dunners, Theo and great to see our old war horse Da Silva make the squad

Watched a couple of games over the weekend, was again impressed by Mittagong on Sat night although soundly beaten on the scoreboard they really dominated Camden for much of the game, The rams chanced their arm on numerous occasions and were rewarded with some long range tries to their flying winger. Refeereing was terrible, I dont like to criticise refs to much coz it is a tough and thankless job but the standard thus far is not good enough unfortunately, the ref should never be the main determining factor on which team wins and loses.. Camden roll on, as predicted at the start of the year they are the big improvers so far this year. I also watched Oakdale take on the premiers down at Mossy. Both teams had a few players out injured, especially Mossy who are really down on troops at the moment. The Workers proved to clinical for Mossy who defended really well in the first half to keep the score at 18 to 0, the second half saw the workers step up a few gears and put Mossy to bed convincingly 48 to 4.. Mossy will be a much better team with a few players back, however their season seems to be slipping away early which is a real shame
Well Said, refereeing was poor on Saturday night.
Was a little better on Sunday, but the penalties that are being given in the ruck are becoming very interesting.
At the moment, it is like the referee's are looking for an excuse to penalise the ruck, either the defensive side or the attacking team.
I noticed Referee Glen Whiteman was relegated to Reserve Grade Saturday night.

It doesnt surprise me to know that the refereeing is below standard. I have been out to watch a few games already and couldnt agree more. there are some serious issues.

I guess one of the drawbacks from having the combined comp split is that most of the top officials from the last 2 years probably went with it. Speaking to an ex referee from out that way and he said the last 2 1st grade final were done by wests officials.. ( i guess those poor sods are referreeing 80-0 games every week now haha)

hopefully it improves and doesnt have an effect on games.

Go the eagles

We have vertually the same 1st Grade side as last year, we lost 1 player to Wollongong George Peterson and Sa Fauula retired, we bought in 4 Bundy players from last year and one was a local junior.

The six that made the rep team, Da-Silva was captain of 1st Grade side last year and has know been in the club for over 5 years, he has captain our 1st Grade side for 4 of those years. 2 Point Player

Theo Leato long serving junior and was from our under 18's last year, 2 Point player.

Mazeen Tavaali, played in our 1st Grade last year and before that he was a Rugby Union player, still green but coming good in leaps and bounds, 10 point player.

Amano Tovio, long serving East Campbelltown Junior, played Bundy cup for us for the past 2 years and is only a 2 point player.

Samuel Hoare, has played at our club for the past 3 years at Bundy Cup, he is a 40 point player.

Wayde Dunley, he played Bundy cup for us last year and is also a 40 point player.

The other Bundy player we have is Lale Neemia, that's all we could fit in but having a good 1st Grade side last year and fixing our 9,7, and 1 was what we were looking for, we have made it competitive for players to play 1st Grade which puts pressure on the Reggies to perform, the only players we lost from last year was the players we never wanted, bit of a Reserve Grade clean out! Our Reggies are also vertually full 2 point players, and our points have been low in the 1st 3 Rounds.

We love the point system as it is what our club has been striving for, for the past 7 years, building loyalty and club spirit, I must admit a couple of changes could be done and I do feel for a club like Oakdale, it must be hard when you don't have a junior base,

Yer guys i can confirm that the top referees from the combined comp were infact wests referees. West referees had the Grand Finals in 2009 and 2010 and sadly since group 6 have and wests have split we can see the difference in quality.

Its a real shame Group 6 have the better comp with the referees not up to scratch and you have the quality referees stuck in a very ordinary comp to say the least.

Highlander, was great to travel to Bowral Sunday, i think the opening ten minutes was very pleasing for my blokes, i think we touched the ball twice and defended solidly to set the tone for the match, i knew it would be a tough physical game in the end i was pleased with the boys, once we gel some more as a team we will only get better, but i know next time some of the boys will know they will be in for a game. Good hospitality and a friendly atmosphere all in all well worth the trip.

Mate alot of what ifs with our lot which dont win you games!! We had chances but choked when it mattered.

Dropping the ball over the line in the opeaning 10 i think really affected our boys 6nil up would have been nice. Than 2 forward passes for 2 no tries in the second half didnt help they have to made to win games.

No excuses where beaten by a better side.

On a positive note both trys for our lads were 17 YOs and the second half was an improvement.

Yes you did play better in the 2nd, interesting that the side running up the hill seem to play better, for now a well earned break for my team and then tackle the new team the Oaks. I will be happy if each and every week we improve.

mate tells me oaks are a good young side they palyed bulls on sunday and were lead by mick pes at hooker bulls ended up to strong and beat them well with 14 players which ended up me mate reckons bulls down to 11 men last 15 minutes giving some blokes an earlier rest some good spirit shown by the bulls who where well ahead  from what im told potts the oaks will go ok and keep coming at yous great to see oaks field all grades

Blue Devil I was poking around the net and found a few things,
Ratha Heak - Collegians junior, Craig Moustakis - Macquarie Fields junior, Brad Hopkins - south coast, John De Silva - Alexandra rovers junior, Michael Stevens - Macarther saints junior, Fred Tevaga - Ingleburn junior among many others.... are you guys claiming them as juniors? I know De Silva has been at the club a while. Stanley Waqa - sydney roosters NRL 2009 and nsw cup cronulla.

Yes, you are right with there junior club, but what I think BD is getting at, the rule where if they played the last 3 years in your club they become local Juniors, all these guys except Stanley Waqa, that I have chased up have been there for 4 or 5 years, look that up!
