Blues fall short

By Lauren Wright
http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/blues-fall-short/2159403.aspx

THEY played their hearts out, but a field goal in the final minute of the game dashed Bowral second division's hope of a victory against Warragamba on Sunday.Bowral were down 10-6 at halftime and clawed their way back into the match to lead 18-14, before Warragamba scored and levelled with a few minutes left. The Blue's Adam Sargood said there was only one chance for a field goal and Warragamba took it

"Thought it might have been the day. They really played out of their skins," he said.

Sargood said it was a good performance despite the loss, with a young forward pack who were starting to come together.

"They're starting to believe they can mix with the men," he said.

Bowral had a final dig and Sargood said their last pass, which failed to stick was unlucky, but could have won them the match.Sargood said they were forced to play with only 12 players on the field for the majority of the match, and the men on the park put in an brilliant effort. He highlighted the performances of Paul Latigan, Mark Whatman, Matt Cuppitt and Dale Knight who kept Bowral in the match with a number of "crucial defensive plays out wide".

The Blues will play The Oaks at home on Saturday, as part of a "Back to Bowral" day. Both the juniors and seniors will play at Loseby Park on Saturday, with the first game at 8.30am.

For the Blues, Sargood said this match was a "must win".

"We want to play in the finals, we need to start winning. The ball's in our court," he said.

"We've got the player's to do it."

Sargood said the club thanked Bowral Toolbox who recently donated a push mower to the club.He said without the support of their sponsors Raine & Horne Bowral, Moss Vale Furniture and the Royal Hotel the club would not be as successful. With Bowral at home all day Saturday, Sargood said the club hoped to see good crowds at Loseby.

"Hopefully we'll get some of the old boys cheering them on," he said.

Camden's first loss of the season was their best performance yet, says coach
http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/camdens-first-loss-of-the-season-was-their-best-performance-yet-says-coach/2159755.aspx

CAMDEN'S unbeaten run in the Group 6 first grade rugby-league competition came to an end on Saturday against Oakdale.
Although they went down 25-18 at Sid Sharpe Memorial Oval, Oakdale, coach Mark de Ubago said it was Camden's best performance this season "in terms of not panicking and completing our sets".

With 30 minutes played the teams were locked at 0-0 but Oakdale scored two length-of-the-field tries to take a 12-0 lead at the break. "We had Ben Weir land on the try-line for a try but was called short and we also had drop-ball with the line open, so it could've been 12-0 our way," de Ubago said.

"We fell asleep and paid the price."

Oakdale extended the lead with another converted try in the second half but Camden hit back with tries to Paul Neville and Chris Browne to trail by just six points. "We had all the momentum with 15 minutes to go but we made some silly errors in our build to allow them to score. At 24-12, we again fought back with another try to catch up again, making it 24-18. We still had two late opportunities but a late field goal by Oakdale sealed them their hard-fought win.

"It was tough and Oakdale are a good side. Our forwards were good today and it was a good battle."

Players' player went to front-rower Ben Weir.

Fair summation from the rams coach, they completed something like 95% of their sets for the entire match! I can only remember them making 1 error in 80mins! That sort of discipline wins games as they has been..

They were pretty mistake free.
Ben Weir should have been penalised for putting the ball on the line, worse than a double movement.
I don't know about the 2 length of the field tries, but the boys that scored them will like the extra yards.

If you look at the squad on paper and reputation easts should win every game this year, no other team is close to them in terms of rep experience, size, speed and depth. They have a quality half, hooker and fullback. Lets not kid ourselves they are the hot favorites for the comp at the moment. even if injuries strike they have that much depth that other group 6 clubs just dont have. In saying that I have watched a few of their games and there are some question marks around their defence. Mitta are a good young side and made several clear line breaks during the match with easts. A better side would have made them pay I feel... All teams are chasing the eagles this year..
