Lions left with nothing to crow about
By Lauren Wright

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/lions-left-with-nothing-to-crow-about/2164111.aspx?storypage=0

THE Lions spirit was broken and the team disheartened at Mittagong yesterday.Mittagong gave it everything they had against their Group 6 first grade mid-ladder rivals, the Thirlmere/Tahmoor Roosters, but when the final whistle blew it was not enough. The Lions were left to lick their wounds after the Roosters won 24-22 in a tough match that could easily have gone the other way.

Down 14-10 at halftime, the Lions received some help from the referee who sent two of Thirlmere's players to the sin bin in the second half.Mittagong pulled ahead to lead 22-18 with Thirlmere down on numbers but a late surge had Mittagong pull up short.Skipper Ryan Powell was disappointed with the loss and said the club would have to face some hard truths this week.

"It's more than disappointing. It's two weeks in a row and we haven't played with any spirit," he said.

"I can handle losing but I can't handle not turning up to play and that's definitely what we did today," he said.

"I think we've got to ask ourselves some questions and be honest with ourselves before we can move forward."

Powell said Thirlmere could have put half a team on the field and it would have made no difference.

"They could have taken six off the field but it wouldn't have mattered with our attitude. No one was punching onto the ball, no one was tackling with their shoulder.

It was a disappointing effort all round," he said.

Powell said while there were some good individual efforts on the field, they needed to work more as a team to get the results.

"If you don't have that mental attitude and the respect for the ball it's hard from the start," he said.

Mittagong will have a chance to redeem themselves on their home ground this Sunday when they host the Narellan Jets.Powell said it was early in the season and hoped they could improve on yesterday's effort.

"It's only early in the comp so hopefully we can get it right," he said.

Mittagong were also without fullback Warwick Carter yesterday after he was stood down by Group 6.

Carter asked to be exempt from Group 6 representative duty, but was told unless those commitments were fulfilled, he could not play football in Group 6 until the representative season was completed.

Meanwhile, the Dragons season seems all but over after they lost their sixth straight game 24-16 to the Campbelltown Eagles at Camden yesterday.Several injuries, including a first half knock to Moss Vale's Mark Delamont, delayed the game, while another player suffered a serious gash to his forehead.

Great game yesterday at CAMDEN, Mossy threw everything at us, both teams walking away with injuries showing how physical it was, all grades was a great contest,

how good was it yesterday at kirkham 3 great games of good tough footy with the roo's having a win in the 18s, a draw in reserves
& a very good win in first grade, & how good to see 2 18 yr olds roos players going to the panthers u20s, good luck to both, who said these kids wouldnt have a future in group 6 & with 5 nrl clubs having there player scouts at roos camden game there might be a lot more players getting a crack & if there are scouts at our game there would be at other grounds as well, this fantastic comp just keeps getting better.

The boys need to step up a gear this week Devil. Oakdale are in great form and Eagles dropping a lot of ball on Sunday. Has anybody done the completions from Sundays game? Oakdale will make you pay if there are that many errors on Saturday. :correct:
Any injury worries for Saturday?

We got a few injuries, Dunners is the main concern with what looks like a ruptured bicep, well know more tomorrow, Moss Vale will be that pain in the arse side that will cause problems, they are big and physical, and don't lay down, hard to believe they are fighting for there first win! Shows what a great competition it is this year!

Im actually surprised Appin didnt go up this year!!
We got done by a pretty strong Appin side alot stronger then what they had last season fourth year in 3rd grade not bad :finger: although the 18 - 2 penalty count against us killed us i think we will bounce back next time around and showed we will give em a harder run next time around with hopefully a different ref might help :correct: - bloke caned us and not a good look calling the Appin boys on a firts name basis :dunno: :dunno: credit to Appin and be ready next time round boys we will be :upyours: and the score line wont look the same i can assure that :correct:
I wouldn't hold your breath rooke. The refereeing standard in group 6 is below average. Has been for a long time. To my knowledge the best referees from the last two Years of that combined comp are Wests referees. But from what I'm told those guys will remain in the Wests comp. ( if they even have one) lol
score line looked very similar

You guys should be planning for 1st and Reserve Grade for next year, there will be plenty of players from JL looking for a close team to play for, no excuses next year!

was it a close game or was it what the scoreline suggested???

Was there any :fight: :fight:

In all honesty Appin did ask to go up to reserve grade were they know they belong? Must suck not being tested im sure there would be a reserve grade side struggling that could have been dropped and had the dogs placed in res :correct:

appin were up 24 nil at half time but a couple of late tries to the bulls made it look closer, but were expecting a much tougher start to the game. Well said we would love to have been in reggies this year but this is where we are now and nothing we can do about it.

so bulls won the 2nd half then 18-10 and played with 12 men most of the game im told so maybe appin might not have done it as easy as the score suggest where the bulls full strengh i believe they have a few injuries of late maybe appin may not have it all on a platter after all easts and warra and bowral may have something to say about that remeber comps aint won in early rounds :dunno: anyway its 3rds so who cares   na thats a bit harsh 2nd div is a good concept for pub players similar to the jl over the road :correct:

Just read it Houso, I can not believe the arrogance shown by JL, G6 clubs obviously voted and JL write, bad luck we run NSWRL and we will tell them and CRL we will take over, that was apparently bought up in the G6 meeting and reading that it is on the mark, will G6 clubs stand up and fight or will they bend over like the Wests Clubs! Anyone read the your say section, 1 desgrantled supporter there, lots of support for JL in Campbelltown, when will NSWRL see the light!

can we drop all the appin and 3rd grade talk?
This weekend. WOW, starts off with
Oakdale v Easts on a Saturday afternoon. This is by far the match of the comp so far. From what i hear, Easts have plateaud out a little, and Oakdale have been building up. Will be interesting to see if they are both at the same level on Saturday at Oakdale.
C/City v The Oaks. Both last start winners, however The Oaks victory was over Narellan, and City beat Camden. Although City couldn't beat Narellan. I think this game is the make or break game for both these teams.
Mittagong v Narellan. Mitta at home will be too strong. Just as long as they play out the 80.
Thirlmere v Moss Vale. Thirlmere have had some close victories, and Mossy just haven't been able to crack it. I'll tip Moss Vale.
Camden v Picton. Camden have dropped 2 on the trot, and Picton have lost their half Bryce Poisel. I will go with Camden.
I think it was a great idea by Oakdale to play on the saturday, should see a great crowd out there
