Picton 24 V Eagles 24 A real nail biter with Eagles having to slot a conversion from the sideline just to tie the game up, with the hooter sounding as the ball sailed between the posts. Picton were excellent, never stopping, in Eagles face the whole game, 2nd phase play over and over to nearly knock off the competition favorites. Should of heard the Picton crowd doing everything in their power to distract Steve Harding from leveling the game and give them the win. Full credit to Steve as he just shut it all out and scored the 2 points. Edited by Maverick, Jun 5 2011, 06:36 PM.

Oakdale v Narellan was a pretty substandard game. I think the boys may have been feeling the effects of a heavy night after a club function. I have a major gripe with all refs. Why do they feel the need to give sympathy to a side that is getting beaten? Anyways, 58-22, not the greatest but it is 2 points. |

Copy and paste from the Picton website.......Maybe the Eagles boys may get some motivation from it In the main game the high flying eagles came to Picton undefeated and pretty bloody pleased with themselves. Technically they left undefeated also, but with a draw under their belt, it’s fair to say that some of those pristine feathers are well and truly ruffled. As usual the opposition opened the scoring. After two very quick tries the Eagles had skipped to a 12-0 lead. Things were looking grim. But, cometh the hour, cometh the men. With tries to Kiel Shephard and Matt Eckler we were suddenly back in it at 12-10 down. Then on the stroke of half time those cocky eagles crossed the line to stretch their lead to 18-10. The thing about clockwork is; it’s generally pretty reliable. So again, like clockwork, our boys came out firing in the second half. In the 50th minute after a great run and sublime flick pass from Alex Peters, Brendan Shephard drew the fullback and passed to Mick Brasington who held off a few defenders to get over for a beautiful 4 pointer. Things were looking interesting at 14-18 down. After 15 minutes of determined thumb wrestling we managed to get some good field position where big Chris Young got the chance to show his footwork, dummy, and power to crash over and snatch the lead. Picton 20-18. Then, in the 70th minute Kiel Shephard made a great bust from our own 20 metre line and unloaded to Matt Eckler who managed to hold off the chasing defenders and score in the corner to take our lead to 24-18. It’s at this stage the siren should’ve sounded, but our timekeepers (like all our officials) are determined to be honest. Bugger. With less than a minute to go the eagles managed to sneak over in the corner. I’m not sure how it happened, so I can only assume they had 14 players on the field at the time. Unfortunately for Picton the eagles have the love child of Darryl Halligan and Hazim El-Masri playing in the centres for them. I knew I should’ve yelled out “Chewy on your boot!” during his attempt at the conversion goal, but the annoying voice within told me to pipe down. As a result Darryl El-Masri never looked like missing and the game finished at 24 all. All our boys had a genuine crack. In particular Kiel Shephard, Alex Peters, Matt Eckler and Chris Bowers really stepped up, but a well deserved player’s player was big Chris Young. After the game the magpies coaching staff expressed their satisfaction with the effort our boys showed out there and the fact we’ve proven we can match it with the best. This is in contrast to the Eagles coach, who reportedly said something to the effect of “Geez you Picton blokes would be happy with a draw wouldn’t you? We’ve never played that do-do before. That’s like a grand final win for you”. Well, the great thing about people that are very full of themselves is that they provide you with the opportunity to watch them fail. Now here is my 2nd bold prediction for the day: The Eagles will not win the competition. Having now seen everyone play I really think we’ve got the goods. Also, there are some pretty strong rumours that some very very good players will be rejoining us in the coming weeks to bolster our ranks. If not us, I think Oakdale are the team to beat. They are tougher in the forwards and faster in the backs than the Eagles. Not that my humble opinion matters to anyone else, but my official tip is: Oakdale and Picton to meet in the grand final. Until next time, go the ‘pies! Edited by Maverick, Jun 6 2011, 08:44 AM.

With success comes the unfortunate tag of tall poppy. Both Eagles sides have come through the first half of the season undefeated, so now they are the team that every one want's to lose. When you look at some of the comments above (cocky Eagles ect) you know the daggers are out for them. The sign of a good side is one that keeps winning even when they dont play at their best. The comment about Oakdale having stronger forwards and faster backs is debatable. But one thing is certain that all of the top sides are not that far apart on their day, and the difference between winning and losing is usually whats between the the left and right ear on the day. I still believe the Eagles are the best side of the comp but it still comes down to mental attitude on game day. Still a tough job ahead for the Eagles they have the cattle but can they keep their heads in the right place for the rest of the season? |

I will be the first to admit, we where out played in every part of the game, Except Goal kicking! Well done to Picton they stood up and gave it to us, dont worry we where happy to walk away with the draw, and with any comments made by coaching staff, I will deal with that! once again, well done Picton, Great Game! |

Cant talk about yesterday's game, but having worked along-side Barnsey for the past two years cocky and arrogant do not come to mind when describing him. No doubt whoever writes on the Picton website would say everyone else will make Grand-Final except Eagles, all i know is the Eagles are focusing on there next encounter against the Kangaroos and improving on yesterday's effort. |

I think all this talk of who will win the grand final and who will make it this year is a little foolish at this point in time. Anything could happen between now and then. Injuries, poor form, teams improving each week. At this stage last year Picton were given little chance of making the gf and oakdale were touted as unbackable favorites. Seems the eagles have stamped themselves as the unbackable favorites, however history tells us over and over that one bad/unlucky game is all it takes to miss out. I believe there are a number of teams capable of making the big one, its a matter of making the semis, then anything can happen in one off games. |

i think we played like poo yesterday and picton played very good i can only think them making 3 mistakes the whole game and we droped the ball like it had soap on it and we in no way think were to good to be beaten in this comp anyone can lose on the day if you dont turn up ready to play every week which isnt an easy thing to over 18 weeks ... |
