Can The Oaks, Camden and City make a late charge, has to be one of the Best Group 6 Competitions for many years, sorry forgot to do my tips, I would of tipped Mittagong Oakdale Draw!

scared you hey we lead for 60 minutes fitness and the 14th man with the whistle let us down no excuses will work on it and be better for it 16-3 penalty count against us was always going to hurt and the scores shows - 2 late trys to appin in the last 5 minutes sealed it for them when we where down to 11 men.is it true the ref is a former appin player? 16-3 penalty count must say the referee standard is concerning 3 sin bins and a send off for minor discrections the guy lost all control hopefully the standard gets better.great crowd they really got into it loved it

Chris135. i think you will find that the Judicary had nothing to do with it, the current system allows for early pleas and previous good behaviour, granted it did not look good and knowing the player involved it was not something he has ever done in the past thus the 1 week. No doubt you have forgotten to mention the treatment of the tallest man on the field by your blokes that only led to a penalty, having said that i know at Campbelltown Eagles we do not condone such behaviour. |

Mighty lions fight to the death LAUREN WRIGHT http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/mighty-lions-fight-to-the-death/2207712.aspx DOWN 20-6 early in the second half, Mittagong Lions stormed home to force a 20-20 draw with Oakdale in their Group 6 first grade match at Mittagong Sportsground yesterday. Oakdale opened the scoring early in the match and Lions fullback Warwick Carter soon replied with a try of his own but that was to be the only time Mittagong found the try line in the first half.Mittagong went into the break 14-6 down after Oakdale piled on a few quick tries. After Oakdale scored again midway through the second half, it appeared all hope was lost for the Lions, but in an enormous effort they pushed a depleted Oakdale to the limit and almost came away with the match. Two missed conversions from the sideline in the dying minutes had Mittagong fans clutching their heads, but there was nothing but relieved faces when the final whistle blew. Oakdale had a few opportunities in the last few minutes to score a field goal and the Lions prayed for a mistake. Mittagong skipper Ryan Powell said he was extremely pleased with the fighting spirit shown by his team to get back into the match. "[It was] very intense, very physical. There was some great footy played so I was pretty impressed with the game. Oakdale came into the match in second position on the ladder and Powell said the win was proof the Lions could match it with the best in the competition. "We're considering ourselves as up around the mark of trying to make the finals and contest in the finals,he said. "It was a really good effort, I was really pleased how they stuck in there and kept trying." Lack of possession in the first half also cost the Lions and made it hard to find the try line. "To go down 20-6 was disappointing. We let ourselves down a little bit in the first half and we didn't see much ball," Powell said. "We should see 20 sets and we only got 10 in the first half." But Powell said it was the determination of the Lions to never give up that saved them from a loss.A number of calls went against them in the first half which also contributed to their lack of possession. "I felt like we got penalised a lot but we only gave [away] four in the whole game. Our target is three in the whole game so we're not too far away," Powell said. "[The] penalties might have felt bad because they were at crucial times but I guess that's just discipline, the ref calls it as he sees it. You've just got to be able to adapt to it." Carter put in a massive effort at the back and made a number of try saving tackles.Powell said he had an excellent game but it was a team effort which got them through. "Warwick Carter played pretty well today but it's probably not right to take it away from everyone else. Everyone did their job, it was just a great effort," he said. While relieved to come away with the draw, Powell said there were still a few things to work on. "After something didn't go right for us we didn't click into gear straight away and start defending. It took a couple of tackles," he said. "So there's some things to work on there which is good because if you run out of things to work on you're in trouble. But we take it week by week and I think we're getting better." |

Must give Lauren Wright from southern highlands news a wrap, the SHN online always has the local teams games posted up from moss vale, mittagong, bowral & robertson wether its in mondays or wednesdays editions. Its dissapoinitng lately to see the camden, campbelltown and wollondilly advertiser online editions having few articles of late hence the lack of game articles from those areas.

Have to agree with you Disco, the coverage from southern highlands is exceptional, whilst the northern group 6 papers like the advertisers, chronicles etc often only reserve a tiny column for group 6 games. Very dissappointing considering the strength of competition and public interest this year. By having more consistent and comprehensive match reports/articles the status and interest of the comp will only be enhanced. Maybe group 6 officials should be asking papers why this isnt happening... I pick up the local paper and see 3rd grade soccer full back page.. embarrassing! |

From Picton Magpies' website: http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?client=1-2396-21996-0-0&sID=76168&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=16151647§ionID=76168 Round 11 match review - vs Narellan Jets From Behind The Fence A bird’s eye view from a one-eyed magpie: It’s funny what a difference a new hair-do can make for a man. Yesterday I was at that Mecca of commercialism: Macarthur Square with limited time and a certain amount of chores to get through. One of those happened to be, get a haircut. I looked shaggy, and I’d been disappointed with my general shabbiness for a number of weeks. Upon realising my time at ‘the square’ was getting thin, and that chicks generally prefer me with very short hair anyway, I figured why pay for a haircut when I can pay for a set of clippers that can do the job at home for free?! As it turns out, when I get the old ‘number 5’all over my wife thinks I look a bit like Paul Gallen. I’m in no way offended by that, because, although Gal is not entirely handsome he commands so much respect that no man could ever object to having anything in common with him. So, I’m glad to report, not only do I play like the great man, I look like him too. My 4 hit-ups and 3 tackles in reserve grade today had ‘NSW captain’ stamped all over them. Ok, so I apologise for getting a bit carried away with hair-do’s. But while I’m at it, what exactly is it about red-heads that intrigues us and scares us so much?! Let’s face it, for the rest of us in society, what do we really know or understand about our ginger cousins? There are just so many questions we have about them: Is it true that gingers have no souls? Is it true that when they breed with each other their carrot-top gene grants them even greater vision to squint in full day-light? Ask a scientist, they’ll tell you that this proud race is beginning to die out, that in a dozen or so generations there will not be a trace of blood-nut left on this sorry Earth of ours. But, ask a ‘ranga and they’ll tell you that they’re about to take over the world! I think it’s this ’backs against the wall, us against them’ attitude that makes our flame-haired friends such fearsome competitors on the football field. As far as the Picton magpies go I have to give special mention to a couple of very proud ranga’s. Picton crowd’s are so used to seeing Rhys Cochrane and Chris Young owning the middle of the park this year that their exploits seem to go by unnoticed to a degree. The fact is that, in reserve grade today, Cocho dominated the opposition before backing up for 1st grade as per usual and doing the same there where he belongs. His red-headed brother Youngy was, as always, one of the dominant forces on the field in 1st grade. In his first year in the black and white it’s pretty fair to say that his dominance has become so expected that he generally gets overlooked for praise at the end of the day. In fact, I’m going to go ahead and rate these 2 at the top of my all time favourite ranga’s list, which follows here: =1: Chris Young – as explained above. =1: Rhys Cochrane – as explained above. 3: Mathew Dickie – Although born and raised in NSW, he supports QLD. Regardless, he is probably the finest manager in Magpie history and winner of the fastest man in group 6 award in 1997, and self-proclaimed ‘fastest man ever to run’. 4: Boris Becker – The mad German tennis player. Best known for having invisible eyebrows, and also, for having his racquet cleaned by a waitress in the broom closet of a German restaurant. 5: Nicole Kidman – Survived being married to Tom Cruise for a decade. 6: Isla Fisher – Made ‘Wedding Crashers’ bearable. And anyone that gets defensive about that do-do movie now, watch it again. Apart from Chazz it’s just awful. 7: Julia Gillard – Okay, so she made lying and backstabbing popular, but she also did manage to claw her way to the top job in the country. 8: Pauline Hanson – Made racism popular. 9: Groundskeeper Willie – Washes himself with Ajax and steel wool. He also wrestles wolves. 10: Alan Tongue, Canberra Raiders – Go Tonguey! Anyway, there was some footy on today: The 18’s had their usual struggles with commitment today. As it turned out they only got done by 8 points against a Narellan team which is apparently coming second. Not a bad effort for a team that had 3 players backing up from the 16’s. One of which (Luke Monds) won players player. In reserve grade it was one of those games that eventually got so easy it was hard. After a 24-0 half time score line the 2nd half become a bit of a drop-a-thon. Plus it ended up 11 players on 11 after a bit of fisticuffs. With Group 6 cracking down on fighting it’s no real surprise that 2 players from each team were sent off. What is surprising is that one Picton player was sent after no official actually identified him. The ref actually said to our captain “One of your players ran in. We don’t know who, so either you find them or I’m sending you off”. I don’t know, but something about that sounds a bit wrong to me. Final score – Picton: a fair bit, Narellan not much. Players player Josh Webster. A couple tries and a well rehearsed ‘Denzel Washington-ish’ speech at half time. First grade was ugly, ugly, ugly. I don’t think any player or coach would be offended by me saying it was just awful. The fact is, we won the game. But, it was so scrappy I thought Scooby-Doo’s nephew Scrappy-Doo may have been involved in some kind of match fixing. After being down 24 – 10 with bugger all to go in the first half big Chris Bowers crashed over to make it interesting at 24 - 16 down. After such an awful 1st half we were down by only 8. The 2nd half was not much better. Thankfully Nick Taylor scored a couple fine individual tries to get us in front at 26 – 24. Then with about 5 to go the ref penalised us for being good guys and the Jets took the kick to level it up at 26 all. Then with about 2 to go in a scene that is so common this year, it’s getting boring, Will Dreves scored the winning try to save us, again. Picton 32 – 26. Players player was big Chris Bowers. Go Bevo! We play next Saturday night at the Oaks against the Tigers. Game Times to be confirmed. Here’s cheers. Go the ‘pies! |

Just a quick video from the Eagles V Thirlmere game. Thirlmere got all fired up and upset after this hit from Matt Blunden's shoulder on their lock who saw stars after that. Close finish a thriller BY SEAN CUNNINGHAM http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/close-finish-a-thriller/2209527.aspx ![]() No mercy: Camden's Ben Weir uses some tough tackling to show an opponent from the The Oaks who's boss. Picture: Sean Cunningham THE Oaks were in control for much of their Group 6 rugby league first grade game but failed to drive home a killer blow against Camden on Sunday. The Tigers allowed Camden to run in three second-half tries as the Rams won 32-28 in a thrilling finish at Kirkham Park. Camden coach Mark De Ubago was pleased his team won their "must-win" game. "The Oaks are a big side," he said. "We thought we'd get them on the back end of each half with fitness but they lasted longer than we expected. "It's an absolutely great comp, there are no easy games. "Although we sometimes see big scores it's usually close games we've seen in the comp." De Ubago said Ben Weir played well. Chris Browne, Adam Marshall and Matt Jones all had good games and Shaun Jones, who set up two tries, had a great game coming off the bench for the final 20 minutes. Camden's tries went to Mahn Darley (three), Adam Marshall, Nathan De Groot, Matt Jones. |

More pain for Moss Vale LAUREN WRIGHT http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/more-pain-for-moss-vale/2210397.aspx ![]() MOSS VALE Dragons suffered more heartache on the weekend after they went down 24-16 in their Group 6 first grade match against Campbelltown Kangaroos at Moss Vale. The Dragons got off to a good start and took an early 12-0 lead, but skipper Willie McDonald said when Campbelltown scored their first try, heads went down. "It's a lack of self belief in the playing group," he said. "When the opposition scored the mood seemed to change." McDonald said they had the opportunity to win the match, but failed to press the advantage. "We had chances to win but we [couldn't] get across the line. At the end of the day you play footy to win," he said. While Moss Vale have only won one game this season, McDonald said they played well in patches and there were positives to be taken from the match. But it was mistakes which again cost the Dragons. "Too many silly little errors. We need to minimise errors and and keep our foot on the throttle," he said. "We let them back in giving away silly penalties, dropping [the] ball. We need to play a lot smarter, hold on to the ball tighter. It's fundamentals that are letting us down." McDonald said Mick Wilkinson had a "blinder" on the wing, and Eliot Esquilant, Dan Drewe and Shane Martin put in solid performances. He said Steve Fairbairnn was moved into halfback and also had a good game. Moss Vale will face second place Oakdale this Sunday and McDonald said he had a few more positional changes in mind.McDonald said they needed to focus on controlling the ball in attack and continuing to improve on the basics. "We just have to keep improving on them," he said |

Spuds take down Eagles LAUREN WRIGHT http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/spuds-take-down-eagles/2210403.aspx ![]() Arron Ditton offloads for Robertson. Photo by Gerogie Beresford ROBERTSON Spuds showed why they were second grade finals contenders yesterday with a solid 32-18 victory over Campbelltown Eagles. The Spuds jumped out to a 16-8 lead at halftime and continued to dominate throughout the match.Coach Craig Pemberton said both their attack and defence was good for the entire game. "I was very happy with that performance," he said. Pemberton said their kick chase game and completion of sets had improved from previous weeks and Matt Rolles, Clark Walker and Reece Webb were the standout performances.Struggling to find negatives from the match, Pemberton said the only let downs were a few repeat sets where the Spuds turned the ball over on the first tackle and the occasional wrong choice at the wrong time. Now on equal points with the fourth placed Eagles, Pemberton was confident Robertson would make the finals. "We will be there," he said. Pemberton said they had most of their squad back on Sunday and the Spuds were starting to get back on a roll. "We're starting to get back to where we were," he said. "The balance of the side is looking good." The under-18s also had a good 26-18 win over the Eagles and Pemberton said they too performed well. "They had a good game. Their defence is going well for them and they're completing their sets," he said. Pemberton also thanked the juniors for helping out in the canteen. |
