Dragons find their fire http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/dragons-find-their-fire/2232468.aspx By Lauren Wright ![]() Ryan Knight celebrates a try in his first grade debut. Photo by Roy Truscot. MOSS VALE Dragons made it two on the trot with a solid 30-10 victory over Picton in their Group 6 first grade match on Sunday.Skipper Willie McDonald said they were underdogs from the beginning with a number of players missing at Victoria Park. "Everyone was pretty pleased to get a win. We didn't have many players there [but] it was one our best performances of the year," he said. McDonald said the team's attitude was much better as was their communication out on the field. "They worked for each other," he said. While McDonald admitted they had a few lucky calls go their way, he said the difference was rather than individual performances, the team worked together. "We seemed to gel as a team and dug deep," he said. But it was not a perfect performance, and McDonald said they still dropped too much ball in the first half which could have given them an even more commanding lead, had they taken their opportunities. However, McDonald said he was impressed with the team's defence and was confident they could continue to build on Sunday's performance. In his first grade debut, Ryan Knight scored what McDonald described as a "brilliant" solo try. "He was safe. He looked like he could handle the pressure," he said. McDonald also highlighted the performance of Josh Hall on the wing and Steve Fairbairn at hooker but said it was a team win. "We played quite well, there were no real standouts," he said. With only a handful of matches left in the competition, McDonald said the Dragons were confident they could win most of their games, especially against those higher up on the ladder. "We're confident we can win more of our games. If we play like we did on the weekend, there's no reason we can't win those sorts of games," he said. Moss Vale will face top of the table Campbelltown Eagles at home this Sunday. |

Bowral bolstered by second win http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/bowral-bolstered-by-second-win/2232464.aspx By Lauren Wright ![]() Tod Fairburn offloads the ball before he can be tackled. Photo by Lauren Wright THEY sharpened up their act and as a result Bowral came away with 22-12 victory over Campbelltown Eagles at Mittagong Sportsground on Sunday. "It's not the best we've ever played but it's the most committed the boys have ever played," skipper Adam Sargood said. "We didn't give away as many penalties, we knew our season was on the line. We played for each other." The win gave Bowral two wins in a row.Sargood said it was the first time the club had two wins on the trot in a very long time. "We've won more than we have in a long time," he said. "I've never heard the club song sung as loud as it was [on Sunday]." While Bowral have struggled over the last few seasons, Sargood said they could still make the semi-finals but needed to believe they were able to. "It would be good to prove a few people wrong," he said. While the match was held at Mittagong, Sargood said it was pleasing to see a number of Bowral supporters at the ground cheering the team on.In his first year of rugby league, Sargood said Matt Cuppitt played well as did Barry Hines and Josh Hartin who returned from illness a couple of weeks ago. "Nobody played badly. This season is very much alive," he said. Bowral will now face Macarthur Bulls this Sunday and Sargood said it would be a tough match. He said he expected it to be wet weather football again and the key would be ball control and completion of sets. "I know we can do it if we play smart football," he said. Bowral have four games left and Sargood was confident they could win most if not all of them. He said it was a young side which had the ability to excel if they worked hard.As for this season, Sargood said every match would be do or die. "To win we've got to play like there's no tomorrow," he said. Robertson beat Macarthur Bulls two weeks ago and Sargood said it gave the team confidence they could achieve the same result. |

Spuds storm towards semis http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/spuds-storm-towards-semis/2232467.aspx By Lauren Wright ROBERTSON Spuds proved they were a force to be reckoned with heading into the business end of the season, with a convincing 40-12 win over Campbelltown Kangaroos in their second grade match on Sunday. The Kangaroos managed to field a full squad at home after they were left short the week before against Bowral. But even with 13 players on the field, they could do little to stop the Spuds running rampant as they piled on the points.Coach Craig Pemberton said he was a bit disappointed with their first half after Robertson went into the break with a narrow 14-12 lead. "In our first half ball security was pretty ordinary," he said. "But in the second half we turned it all around. We had a good kick and chase game and the forwards were going forward." Pemberton said the three forwards Clarke Webb, Jesse Mauger and Matt Rolles were the standout players and gave the Spuds the go forward they needed to settle down and play their style of football. He said the two under-18 players who stepped up, Zac Clewett and Dan Rolles both played well.Robertson will face Warragamba this Sunday and Pemberton said they needed to work on their line speed for the match. "We're 80 per cent there. We're [just] not quite there yet," he said. Pemberton said part of the team's success came down to their good relationship off the field. "They're a really good bunch of blokes. Everything's travelling fine," he said. |

The Rams can't stop O'Brien BY SEAN CUNNINGHAM http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/the-rams-cant-stop-obrien/2232403.aspx ![]() Strong defence: Camden player Tyrone Hadfield (red/white/blue) faces strong tackling from Oakdale at Kirkham Park. Picture: Sean Cunningham CAMDEN'S chances of reaching the play-offs took a serious dent on Saturday when they lost 30-10 to Oakdale. The signs were promising for the Rams when Luke Wisbey opened the scoring in the fourth minute. But they couldn't contain Oakdale's Ty O'Brien, who was without a doubt the man of the match, scoring four tries. Camden's Dean Britt, who was promoted from the under-18 team, scored the Rams' other four-pointer. Graeme Martin and Nick Crouch scored Oakdale's other tries. Although he realises he has a huge task ahead of him, Camden coach Mark De Ubago is still clutching on to the slim hope of his team winning their final four games and securing a finals berth. "I realise the players are playing for pride now, but while it's still mathematically possible for us to reach the play-offs we have to stay positive," De Ubago said. "We want to be competitive in the next four games. "We won't roll over. "There are no easy games in the run-in." Camden had a setback before the game when front rower Jack Watson hurt himself in the warm-up. Although facing a strong Oakdale team, De Ubago was pleased with the overall team effort. Consistent performers Matt Jones and Ben Weir had good games. "Dean Britt was fantastic; he scored a try and was sin-binned for a professional foul for holding down in the tackle, he had it all in the game," De Ubago said. "I gave Chris Browne a rocket during the week and he came out with something to prove and he did really well. "Luke Wisbey went back over on the left wing and he was great. "We got in there and gave it a good go, so Oakdale can't say it was an easy game for them." Oakdale coach Brendon Reeves praised Camden's efforts and was surprised at the Rams' position on the ladder. "Camden has got some good players," he said. "I thought Camden had some quick, up-tempo players and I'm surprised they haven't won more games. "They are our bogey side so it was a good one to win." |

2/5 last week, see if I go any better! Eagles by 8, too much to play for. The Oaks by 16, fortnight of beers to catch up with Woodo's boys. Roos by 4, CRL's oldest rivalry will see the 'Roos fire up at Camden's old home ground!! Workers by 14, too clinical. Thirlmere by 7, late Dynevor field goal Also great to see Robbo and Bowral firing in the 2nd Division comp- League making a massive resurgence in the Highlands. |

I have seen it too. They have made a mistake. We have won every game so far this year. The only reason I can think of for the mistake is that 1st grade has had a draw. |

Heard some rumors that mossy are a bit disgruntled at the moment, with comittee members standing down, sponsors withdrawing there sponsoship and a lot of friction between some senior players and the president, also that there could be up to six of the first grade squad leaving at seasons end? as I said only rumors and pub talk but usually where theres smoke. Want to shed any light. |

Foot fan i wouldnt buy to much into it mate trying to get young men to a function on a friday nite is bloody hard work!! Mate when you loose a few heads drop training numbers decrease and players and staff commitment gets tested!! A few wins can always mend that! If Mossy finish the years strong it will put them in good stead for next season they have blooded a few youngsters this year which should help them. Its pretty hard work for committee members of any club and times relationships can go off course normally a few good wins sort that out sometimes though it can cross a bridge of no return lets hope thats not the case |
