Grand final at picton!
The Grand Final was to be at Picton but it has been moved to Camden.

There is no "hosting" of the GF, believe me, the Group has said that they are "taking ownership" of the GF this year. Funny, I always thought it was the Group 6 Clubs' GF. The Group wants to host the day and take the money while the clubs do all the work. Clubs have to put a tender into Group Management to run the canteen or BBQ. I would assume that whoever offers the Group the most money will get to run them.

Council Ground Hire rules in Wollondilly don't allow for the hirer to sublet (tender process) the venue. If the Group was not going to be getting financial gain and it was given to clubs (to help clubs raise funds) as it has been in the past then there wouldn't have been a problem.

Picton did put forward a proposal that the tender process be removed - clubs would be given the canteen or BBQ without having to pay the Group for the privilege; Picton club would do all the set up and clean up, provide ground managers, clean toilets etc (about 3 days of work) as well as feed all Group officials, guests and sponsors at no cost to the Group. The Group would get the gate, as has been the norm - and Picton wanted the have the bar facility as they have the liquor license for the ground. This was knocked back by Group Management, so they took their Grand Final and went elsewhere!

Deja vu people! This change of GF format didn't go to the General Committee but was decided on by Management without consultation with the clubs. Why does this action seem familiar........ can we say joint comp of three years ago........

The hill at Bowral is an institution! You run up it in one half and down it in another - adds a degree of difficulty to the game.
There is nothing better than a drive to the Southern Highlands on a wintery Sunday afternoon to watch a game of footy - it's what playing in Group 6 is all about.

What is this tendering all about, if all the money goes to the group it should be one huge cheque for the winners of the grand final.
good on Picton for their proposal to have it removed. Deja vu is spot on we have all been down this road before with not being consulted
by the powers that be....

Yeah footy shorts, the GF winners will be rolling in it ........... not!
These decisions effect all clubs and they need to go to the general committee to be discussed - there has been plenty of time for this to happen.
Sometimes management committees forget what and who they are there for - 2009 & 2010 are prime examples.

That's a shame about the GF being moved, Picton has the best ground and the best atmosphere, Dad also loves a beer at the Picton Club House

my tip oakdale just by 1, this game may come down too a field goal, oakdale have an excelent record for winning the close ones
& with this game virtually deciding the minor premiership i will lean oakdales way simply because of there record with the close ones
but it could go either way, 1 point in it

Lions just miss out

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/lions-just-miss-out/2246722.aspx

By Ben McClellan

MITTAGONG'S first and reserve graders both narrowly lost to the Roosters at Thirlmere on Sunday. The firsts now sit fifth after losing 32-30, while the reserves are second after going down 18-16. The under-18s were the only Lions to taste success 32-18 to remain undefeated four points clear at the top.The first grade Lions fought back twice during the game from 16-6 down to draw level 16-16 at halftime and then from 32-20 to almost winning the game in the dying stages. Mittagong skipper Ryan Powell missed a sideline conversion to square things up after Justin Madden scored his second try. Erin Blackshaw also scored twice, Mark Williams once, while Corey Martin kicked two goals and Powell one.

Powell said the team did well when Cameron Madden was sin binned midway through the second half for talking back to the referee. He said the Lions needed to be wary of the cellar dwelling Jets at Narellan this Sunday and Mittagong had to win their remaining three games to secure a finals berth. Young halfback Matt Thorpe was singled out by Powell for having his most dominant game this season, while five-eighth Ryan Borg also played well.

In other first grade games, Oakdale beat Picton 26-24, Camden edged out Campbelltown City Roos 28-26 and Narellan beat The Oaks 38-24. This Sunday Moss Vale host Thirlmere.

Meanwhile, Macarthur beat Bowral 30-18 in third grade, while Warragamba walloped Robertson 40-6 in third grade and 62-1 in the under-18 second division match.
Ryan Borg played a very mature game he settled things down when the Lions started to try too hard.
Lions got beat early when Thirlmere kept going down our right side defence, which was a bit skinny.
Thirlmere kept throwing their big guys at our small guys and scored a few tries down that side.
Once Ryan Powell Rectified this we were back in the race.
I thought Matt Thorpe & Ryan Borg were outstanding.
We were missing a few players and especially Carts at Fullback, put him in and we are a different team. Looking forward to all future games, this team has a lot of ticker and is still young.
Good on ya guys your a pleasure to watch!!!!!!

Eagles carrying a few injuries and I am unsure what penalty Mazeen got. I think Oakdale should be favourites by more than 1. The Eagle's boys will have to dig deep to pull this one off.
