I see the Picton boys will be playing the eagles at victoria park for the 2nd time this year, is onslow park really getting that bad that it couldnt last one more match for the year?
I was told by one of the players last Sunday that Onslow was terrible and the cricket pitch was coming through.
Yes Picton doesnt have a Cricket Pitch, and its something our club cant get away from, Bloody Cricket Pitches!

While I'm on a posting frenzy, (haven't been on the forum for a while) Congratulations to Richard Barnes and Jason Hazelton for there efforts this year winning the 1st Grade Minor Premiership, you have done a great job and repected by all players. I also have to congratulate our Reggies as well, we have been a dominate Reserve Grade outfit for the past 3 years but couldn't get the Minor Premiership, well done guys winning the Minor Premiership and still remain undeafeted. and thank you to Troy Millard, Gary Potts, Jeremy Whittle and Darren Endicott for there efforts in Coaching our other Grades, and again as a club we have done so well winning the Group 6 CLUB CHAMPIONS for the second year running, and Wests Senior Club Champions for the past 5 years. A special thanks to our Junior Club East Campbelltown JRLFC and the Senior Committee, we have all worked in the same direction and it's been a fantastic year and anything from here is a bonus!

Can someone please explain why Group 6 has all these great write ups and pictures, and not one thing on Wests Junior League Senior Comp, I read Campbelltown papers as a Campbelltown local resident and haven't seen one write up in the Campbelltown paper, maybe someone from the Chronicle or Advertiser could give a PLEASE EXPLAIN!!
I spoke to the main journalist in the northern end of the comp and he told me that he asked Western Suburbs for some info on games to give publicity, and he got nothing back. Apparently he also rang clubs, but got nothing.

A little bit of effort on a club's part by contacting the paper, introducing yourself to the sports' reporter, emailing them info about your club's activities, and they will come to the party and give you the publicity you need. Club's need to do a bit of footwork themselves if Management won't do it.

The Southern Highlands reporters are fantastic and really support the teams down there, they go out of their way to turn up to games all over Group 6 if Mossy, Mitta, Robbo or Bowral are playing. And they do this for both juniors & seniors.

They couldn't do all that, all there time is taken up bagging the Eagles and Roos, it's easier to bag clubs then get off your back side and be pro-active! Simple solution to get youre comp moving, TC are you surprised that management couldn't get any stories to that journalist, to busy trying to run a junior and senior comp!

Kookaburras want last laugh
LAUREN WRIGHT

By Lauren Wright

BOWRAL'S under-10 team have only lost one match this season, but on saturday they will face their biggest rival in the junior semi-finals held at The Oaks.

The Kookaburras beat Thirlmere/Tahmoor in the first round before they went down to them in the second round, but coach Mick Hyland was confident they would finish with a win this weekend.

Hyland said they had been short for most of the season and was grateful to the under-9 players who had backed up for them throughout the year.

"The boys are playing with a lot of spirit and discipline. They're doing what's required of them and improved out of sight," he said.

He said they had been such a successful team this season because they had learned to pass the ball around and spread it wide where other teams had tended to bunch together in the middle of the field.

When asked what he wanted from his team this Saturday, Hyland had only one answer.

"Discipline, discipline, discipline," he said.

Hyland said the boys had also done well to hold their positions throughout the year rather than simply running around the field and passing it to each other, but was still aware anything could happen on a football field.

"They're all very confident. It's a big week for them but I don't want them to get overexcited," he said.

Hyland said they worked well together as a team, with a number of players standing up this season.

He said James Morton, Darcy Howard, Jack Howard and Ryan Morton had been outstanding all year and Matthew Abela had become a "tough little player".

The only regular nine-year-old player, Hyland said Christian Sargood had "improved 200 per cent" and Sam Lawrance and Phil Chadwick played well every week.

A number of the boys have also backed up for the under-11 team this season and Hyland said they had benefited from the experience.

"It hasn't done them any harm," he said.

The team trained on Saturday and will train again this afternoon and Friday in preparation for the big match.

"It could be very interesting this weekend," Hyland said.

With all the boys playing well, Hyland said it was pleasing to see the players' parents supporting the team at each game and giving the boys encouragement.

With only the one loss this season, Hyland remained confident his team has what it takes to go all the way and win the premiership.

"We're better than even money to go on with it," he said.

"We'll cross our fingers. It's been a long time between drinks."

In the other junior semi-finals this weekend, Mittagong will play Moss Vale in the under-11B and under-16B competitions and Mittagong will face Picton in the under-16As.

With all this rain falling in macarthur area, what happens if councills decide to shut grounds this weekend? Being last round it is an important clash for some sides, especially in first grade for position 3 and 4 on the ladder. Thirlmere and Picton both must win to secure 3rd spot and gain a second bite at the cherry. If grounds close I presume they will play on a Tues or Wed night catchup... which isnt ideal prep for semi finals, however I see no other alternative, unless grounds remain open? Does anyone know what the procedure might be this weekend?

Thanks Devil, and yes let me say a big congrats to Barnsey and Hazo, i know my team enjoyed a few ales watching two weeks ago, an awesome team to watch. Your team devil has been fantastic and i am sure you will raise the bar with the smell of finals in the air. I have given my team a bit extra to play for this week and beyond so here is hoping the boys respond and i know when they are on they can be damm good. Our 18's are very promising and all in all i am sure every other club would love to be in the position we are, but without the hard-working committee of the past and present it would not be possible and of course the great sponsors, if there were any club that deserves to tatse success it is ours, well done to everyone, and best of luck in the finals this year.

From the Picton website:

http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?client=7-2396-21996-0-0&sID=76168&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=16693807&sectionID=76168

From On and Off the Field
Thoughts on this weeks footy from the Foal

Not a good day for Picton today. Not good at all. In three games against East Campbelltown Eagles we were unable to secure a win.

Our 18’s had an improved effort. This week they only started the game one man short, as opposed to last week when they were four men short. Our boys were right in it until the last 15 minutes or so when the Eagles scored a few tries to run away with it. Player’s player was Jon Green who always puts in a strong effort.

Reserve grade were always going to have a tough time. Struggling for numbers the way they are and playing against a team that is undefeated is not a good mix. We had only 12 players to start the game until Benny Hierlehy did us a favour by playing for us before starting for 1st grade.
It’s amazing that we can be so short considering that in the pre-season we had so many players that the club was considering fielding a 3rd grade team. We have been crippled by a ton of injuries, which is sometimes unavoidable. What’s more alarming, however, is the number of players that have decided to just stop turning up. I hope each one of them is butted repeatedly by a herd of angry goats and the attack is witnessed by a busload of Japanese tourists who find what they see very comical and post the footage on the internet.
I’m not used to seeing such a lack of commitment at this fine club. It makes me sick. If you’re not willing to commit for an entire season don’t show up in the first place. Maybe I’ve been spoiled during my career, surrounded by committed players who bust their arse for their teammates. Maybe, I’m being a bit harsh. Maybe, but then again, no I’m not. I’d like to see anyone who has quit and left us in the lurch have a red line put through their name for the future. Or at least be forced to pay for their own rego when they turn up all smiles in January looking for a run. That’s just my opinion.
Anyway, we went down 48-16 to a very good Eagles team. Not such a bad result considering. Huge thanks to the 6 players from the under 18s who backed up and helped us out: Jon Green, Jye Stokes, Todd Digger, Jack Digger, Jack Mitchell and big Vinnie Romeo. All of them put in a great effort. Reserve grade players player went to Tommy Burke who never stopped. It’s just a shame that he had to do the work of so many other players on the field, but he did, and he loved it.

First grade went down in a nail biter to the tune of 40 points to 10. It would be easy for me to focus on the whole game and say that the Eagles were far better than us, that we were outplayed in every area, and that we didn’t look like we were in the same class. But, I’m not going to take the easy road. I’m going to focus on the second half in which we narrowly went down 12-10. The Eagles skipped away to a 12-0 lead early (40-nil overall), only for our guys to come back with 2 late tries to lose the second half by only 2 points. If the time keeper could’ve let the game run for another 2 minutes I’m sure we would’ve gotten away with a thrilling second half win.
In all seriousness, the Eagles showed they are a better team than I had previously given them credit for. They will be hard to beat. However, I still believe if any team can, it’s us. We were a long way from our best today.
Anyway, we have now limped into 4th place, meaning a sudden death semi final against a hungry Mittagong Lions this Saturday night. I have no doubt that we can turn it around to score a good win, get a roll on and keep on winning. We still showed in patches today how good we can be, especially when our forwards got on a roll and allowed Nick Taylor and Kiel Shephard to get some good clean ball out wide. The magpies have showed in recent seasons that we are September specialists, so here’s hoping we can do that again. We just need to focus for 80 minutes at a time from here on in. Gee whiz we are a good team when we do.
Player’s player went to hard working forward Brendan Shephard. He was well supported by his two back row brothers Matt White and Alex Peters, hooker Grant Syron, and man at arms Kiel Shephard.

So, let me repeat: It’s now sudden death. This Saturday night, the big game against Mittagong. If you are, or have ever been, a Picton supporter or if you just have nothing else on, get down to Victoria Park, Picton to make some noise. I promise I will buy you a beer, or at least let you hold mine when I have to visit the little boy’s room.

Until next time,
Go the ‘pies!
