Hey Guys

Started this thread to see if anyone wants to have a stab at naming a hypothetical group 6 team for the country championships which will be held at ron crowe oval at west wyalong on the 28th May at 9am. Group 6 will be taking on group 11 which takes in the country areas of cobar, dubbo, parkes etc. The winner of this match will face the winner of group 9 & 16 in the semi final.Based on the strength of the group 6, they are placed in the tier two competition. The last time group 6 won a major country championship was in 1983. Divisional championships were played for a long time where group 6 & 7 were known as southern division ,until crl made it back into group championships in 2008.

The problem ive found in the past is the group 6 team hasn't been the best or strongest picked due to player availability. With the inclusion of the eagles and roos in group 6 hopefully this will and more depth to the selection process this year.

In the u/18s the southern stingrays will take on the southern redbacks at mittagong sportsground on 16th april at 2.15pm.

Do you want us to name who we think it is going to be? Or who it should be?

Ok, heres a rough team ive come up with which may change as the rounds progress especially if injuries are a factor and also if they are available for selection.

1.Will Dreves -picton
2.Ben Baker -narellan
3.Josh Champion -moss vale
4.Mark Brassington - Picton
5.Mahn Darley - Camden
6.Warwick Carter - Mittagong
7.Chris Browne -camden
8.David Lowe -oakdale
9. Tod Pes - oakdale
10.Aaron Firman - Roos
11.Jamie Szczerbanik -Roos
12.Ryan Powell- Mittagong
13.Willie McDonald - Moss Vale
14.Rob Carter - Mittagong
15.Troy Gibbs - Narellan
16.Matt Carlyon -Thirlmere
17.Jayden Merchant -Thirlmere

Before bd , 7itch& maverick etc have a go at me for no easts selection i must admit i havent seen much of them this year to base any selections on but of course some would be warranted for selection, maybe they can put forward some names?. The backline i picked was mainly due to its versatility where if injuries occur in a match they can slot into other positions.

Oh dear, i must say you are on the money with some selections, but your half is way off, Chris Browne?? Please
Fullback is debateable, but he's good
I like the wingers, no probs there, but i think Matt Macauley will get a run over Mahn Darley
You'll find Nick Crouch as one centre, and probably Brazo
6. Will be Brad Hopkins
7. Shane Martin
Props are good
9. Sam Hoare maybe? Although todd pes has been there before
Back rowers are always tough cos there are so many
Bench is ok, but you won't get Rob Carter and Matt Carlyon on the same bench
I think you will find Bart Masters in there somewhere too.

For some reason selectors rarely pick the best squad possible! Heres my team if I was a selector
1. Warwick Carter 2. Ben Baker 3. Lale neemia 4. Josh champion or Graeme Martin 5. stephen Harding or Matt Mccauley 6. Wade Dunley 7. Shane Martin 8. Junior Taavili 9. Sam Hoare 10. Toa Assa 11. David Lowe 12. Chris Young 13. Ryan Powell 14. Kiel Shepard 15. Alex Vincent 16. Bart Masters 17. Will Dreves..... plenty of others that could have been included.. but on exposed form and balance of players this would be the squad I would want....

Shane Martin has retired from rep footy from what i understand hence why he didnt play last year. I picked willie despite the fact he hasnt played a game but he is a big game player look how he went during the semis last year.Yeah i'd proably go wayde dunley over chris browne at half , ive seen him play but that was only last year. Hooker well that could go either way, Mark Delamont was the hooker last year but is'nt in great form hence why i didnt consider him , pes or hoare?.mmmmmmmmm

Can you do that?
Form is not usually the big factor,
Chris Browne is in Reserve Grade too

I remember back in 2003 group 6 picked a cracker of a team to represent. Since then I havent seen one better! Not due to quality of players available but mainly due to poor selections! The side was.
1. Mark Lowe (Oakdale) 2. Jamie Newton (Thirlmere) 3. Justin Miller (Thirlmere) 4. Nathan Barnaby (Oakdale) 5. Paul Neville (Camden) 6. Travis Baker (Camden) 7. Wes Patten (Thirlmere) 8. Mitch Newton (Camden) 9. Damien Attard (Narellan) 10. Matt Hamilton (Narellan) 11. Damien Kennedy (Camden) 12. Asaki Misa (Thirlmere) 13. Mark Corrigan (Camden) 14. Adam Rae (Thirlmere) 15. Clint Mason (Oakdale) 16. Gavin McCourt (Camden) 17. Matt McPherson (Picton) This team at the time was a true reflection of group 6's strength and they put the cleaners through group 7 and dominated the southern division selections. This season I believe group 6 can put together a cracking squad! hopefully the selectors do the right thing.... I have little faith unfortunately

I recall the 2005 group 6 side was also a ripper, had the likes of Mick Dodson & Jon Creswell from goulburn, justin holbrook & gary dowse from picton, shane martin, justin miler, willie & jamie newton from thirlmere, robbie mears from mittagong, clint mason from oakdale. I dont know the exact side but i remember these players were there.

I think if the selectors get it right this year you may see the best group 6 side you will see in decades, Amano Tovio for Fullback, leading try scorer for the Eagles in Bundy cup for 2 years and a local junior, great tallent, very hard to pick, which is a great thing for the group!

yes had overlooked him, great choice, i also think stephen harding is option, save on wing or centre and best kicker in comp i think

Well its good everyone is throwing their hat in the ring regarding their selections , hopefully the selectors wont have their blinkers on and pick a decent rep side this year.

G6 going from 5 teams in 2008 to 10 in 2011 should make for a real good rep team particularly with some of the quality that Easts have brought to the Group.
City players- Drew Dalton a must at 7, 9 or 13, Jamie Szczerbanik would give great bench impact.
Kurt Austin and Jeremy Mackay wouldn't let anyone down either and worth a mention in despatches.

Good to see esky in there and will be giving 110 % no doubt. :correct:
just wondering who will play hooker?
On what i seen yesterday how could oakdales number 9 miss out? :dunno:
the direction he gives and the footy brain on him is second to none and well above the level expected in group 6, although that is what the group 6 will no doubt lack come game time no doubt!
