A few changes to the group 6 rep team, I'm hearing Flanno and Borg have pulled out. A few haven't showed up to training.

Hopkins injured, Thorpe not playing, baker not playing also. Heard pes has been a late inclusion. He will slot in well and give 100 percent. Judd from thirlmere has replaced Taylor. Paea from thirlmere in for Borg. Not sure of other inclusions.?

Todd Pes is a good player and has been for a long time, but I don't know what Anthony Provost has to do to get a run.

What's happened to the play or stand down from club rule?

Who knows Orana? I think players/clubs need to nominate a few weeks before selections so that the coach and selectors can look at the available players. If they nominate, get selected then withdraw they should be stood down. And if injured they won't be playing club footy in any case. Secondly I think the group need to make playing rep footy more appealing to the players. There is a lot of travel, training etc and we are seeing our very best players making themselves unavailable for selection. Ie, cashmere, young, trimarchi just to name a few. Make it more worthwhile for the players, how? That's for the committee or clubs to decide at meetings. The amount of players who have pulled out of this years team is bordering on farcicle. Baker, Thorpe, Borg, taylor, Hopkins, flanno. I realise a couple to injury though. Any thoughts?

That's the problem , the clubs don't get to nominate players. The group just select a squad and expect them to play.

thats true, it is also expected that players take time off work to travel to away games. i fully understand players not wanting to play, losing friday ( if travelling away ) and saturdays pay packet then risking a club match payment ends up with a very upset player. The group needs to find a way of enticing the players to want to play, part payment, or good gear, a rep game only weekend,an invite and recognition of there efforts at the player of the year presentation night etc. I play in this team cause i love footy, i love testing myself against other groups and divisions and also i love catching up and having a few beers with blokes from the country that i may not have seen in years. The sooner the group gets some fresh ideas on board to make every player WANT to make the team the better.
The country championships is a great event, but its only a great event if your winning games, the best players available equals winning games.
In carlton league you could make yourself unavailable for the country team which would trigger illawarra to dump you from there squad.
If selected in country and you pulled out the CRL suspended you not Illawarra - you knew the punishment before you signed on the dotted line and everyone stuck to that rule and didnt make it up as they went.

Scoop is still dirty that he was still on the drink one year when he got the call up on the day of the game.
They made a black and white rule one year against Warwick Carter, and it soured some relationships from memory, so why back down now?

I don't know about all the others, but I know Youngy and Taylor are out due to injury.
I fully agree though. The group has to make it more appealing. I don't know how, but it's a big ask for players to be involved for little to no reward. There may be a small few who aspire to make country, but the majority, just want to play for their club, for which they're generally pretty well paid.
I think in my couple decades being around group 6 senior footy there's been one, maybe 2 squads that were actually something like full strength. Last year was not far off, and I think 2003 was just about there (Willy Newton, Gary Dowse, Travis Baker, Hammo, Wes Patten etc).

03 was an awesome squad! Great mix of tough and skillfull players at their peaks. Blew group 7 off the park! However in recent times group 7 have had the wood on group 6. Simply due to the fact we continued to present second string squads. No disrespect intended.

Good for Picton, bad for Alex Peters. I didn't see the game, but I was told he was one of the best on the field. Actually, a good mate who now plays for Gerringong said that none other than Mick Cronin rated him G6's best on the day.
Really, group 6 in general could feel hard done by getting only 6 of 18 spots.
