Didnt notice this thread originally. Copied and pasted my comment from the 2012 season thread below:

That's a good looking squad overall. Very strong in key positions with Baker, Dunley, Trotter and Flano providing lots of ball playing options. I really like that back row too, Masters is a genius and Trimarchi is a hard nut.
A couple questionable ones though:

- No Piggy? Has he made himself unavailable? If so, does the group suspend him from club games until rep games are over?
- I'm assuming Chris Young has been overlooked because he hasn't played yet this year. If he has just been left out someone should be shot!
- Morgan Knott? I'm not about to bag him. He's hard to stop with a full head of steam but is he really one of the 3 best front rowers in the group?! No way. It's a few years since I've seen Aaron Firman play but he is all class.
- Is Dave Lowe playing this year? If so, he should be automatic selection.
- I would've found a spot somewhere for the Trotter brother that plays centre for Thirlmere too. He's a very good player.
- Also, if Kiel Shephard is not one of the 17 best players in the group I'll eat my hat. He's equally strong at centre or back row and can push up to front row in a pinch. Perfect for the bench.

Kiel Shepherd is like the energizer bunny - he goes and goes and goes - he outlasts other players. Big mistake overlooking him.

Group 6 for 'epic' turn

BY SEAN CUNNINGHAM

FIVE players from the Camden and Narellan clubs have been named in this year's Group 6 representative team to compete in the Country Rugby League Championships.
Narellan's Ben Baker, Chris Faave and Rocky Trimarchi, who will captain the team, will join Camden's Neil Begovich and Sam Campbell in the team.

The team's coach, Brendon Reeves, believes this year could be the team's best chance of success in the Southern Division round robin competition.

Former Oakdale coach Reeves, will guide his team in two qualifying games in a bid to reach the semi-finals.

The team will take play on April 27 at Mittagong against Group 16 and May 26 at Albion Park against Group 7.

"It's an important year for the Group 6 rep side," Reeves said.

"In the past there's been some problems with players not cherishing or valuing the jumper, but that will change and change in an epic way.

"It's a whole new-look side.

"If they didn't want to play I'd be flabbergasted."

Confident his group of players can blend to produce dazzling displays on the paddock, Reeves described this year's draw as a "dream draw" with both qualifying games being played within one hour's drive for most players.

He noted a few players who he believes could shine against their Group 7 and Group 16 counterparts.

"One of the most impressive is Narellan lock Rocky Trimarchi — he's a great leader and is a ball player.

"We've got an outstanding back line with younger players who are really enthusiastic and keen.

"Trent Trotter has an awesome kicking game and he has some great speed.

"Morgan Knott is a big lump of a lad and every team needs a player like that.

"Stuart Flanagan, it's his year to shine, it's his first year back after playing NRL and it's his chance to dominate."

Reeves will throw everything behind his challenge to lead his team to victory.

"I'm not doing this for fun, I'm doing it to win the comp," he said.

"We're in the box seat this year and we'll go good."

THREE Campbelltown Eagles players have been named in this year's Group 6 representative team to compete in the Country Rugby League Championships.
Wayde Dunley, Mason Talalou and Ben Weir will represent Campbelltown in the Group 6 side.

Coach Brendon Reeves believes this year could be the Group 6's best chance of success in the Southern Division round-robin competition.

Assisted by Campbelltown Eagles' joint coach Jason Hazelton, former Oakdale coach Reeves will guide his team in two qualifying games, in a bid to reach the semi-finals.

The team will play on April 27 at Mittagong against Group 16 and May 26 at Albion Park against Group 7.

"It's an important year for the Group 6 rep side and in the past there's been some problems with players not cherishing or valuing the jumper, but that will change and change in an epic way," Reeves said.

He noted a few players who he believes could shine against their Group 7 and Group 16 counterparts.

"We've got an outstanding back line with younger players who are really enthusiastic and keen," Reeves said.

"Mason Talalou is dynamite, Trent Trotter has an awesome kicking game and he has some great speed.

"Morgan Knott is a big lump of a lad and every team needs a player like that.

"Stuart Flanagan, it's his year to shine, it's his first year back after playing NRL and it's his chance to dominate."

Reeves says he will throw everything behind his challenge to lead his team to victory.

Only 2 weeks away for the first rep game of the year, will be good to see if the team can play to coach Reeves structure having so many ball players in the team. A few will have to just put the bag of tricks away and do the hard yards.

THE Highlands will have a chance to witness some exciting football and star power when Group 6 take on Group 16 this Friday night at Mittagong Sportsground.Stuart Flanagan, former NRL star for West Tigers, Canberra Raiders and Cronulla Sharks, who now plays for Oakdale Workers will captain the side and will be one of the key players for Group 6.Group 6 coach Brendon Reeves said he was excited about working with such a talented player.

"He is a great leader and super quick and smart from dummy half," he said.

"All the players are keen and determined."

Mittagong Lion's Erin Blackshaw will be the only Highlands representative and Reeves said he would bring him off the bench and into the forward pack.

"He's been the leading forward for Mittagong this year and he's come highly recommended from his coach Scott Borg," he said.

"We're happy to give him a run in front of his home crowd. He's got great footwork and good speed and he really deserves this opportunity."

The Group 6 pack will be led by Ben Weir and Mason Talulo from Campbelltown Eagles who have remained undefeated this season and Reeves said, Bart Masters one of Oakdale's premiership winning players from last year "will give some real punch on the edges."

"The trotter brothers from Thirlmere have a great combination, and are among the quickest players in our group," Reeves said.

"Ben Baker from Narellan Jets has been in the rep teams for awhile now, but he gets his best chance to dominate from fullback, after previously being selected on the wing."

Reeves said he had his eyes on a number of Mittagong players for their next match against Group 7, including the Borg brothers and Seb Sell.

"We hope a big Southern Highlands crowd rolls up as these fixtures are rarely seen in these parts. It will be top quality rugby league," he said.

With three wins from their last 15 outings, Reeves said Group 6 had been disappointing at representative level.

"Hopefully they've bought me on board to fix that. It's an opportunity I couldn't pass up. Winning three out of the last 15 is just not good enough for a group like this," he said.

"Group 16 they'll be here and ready to play

Reeves is no stranger to winning after he coached the Oakdale Workers to a first grade premiership last year.A display of local talent will also be on show when. We'll be fired up and ready to go."Mittagong under-12Bs take part in the curtain raising match before the main fixture. The first match will begin at 5pm, with the rep match scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm.

Group 16 cop thrashing from Group 6

GROUP 6 left spectators stunned at Mittagong Sportsground on Friday night, annihilating Group 16 82-0.The onslaught began right from the kick off and the home team went to the break 28-0 up.Coach Brendon Reeves said while he expected to win the match comfortably, even he was shocked by the enormity of the scoreline.

"I was very confident after training on Tuesday night (but) I didn't expect us to win like that," he said.

"It was very impressive."

Despite slightly slippery conditions, Reeves said Group 6 stepped up and put in an excellent performance.

"Our big guys were tremendous.

Group 6 completed 80 per cent of their sets and Reeves said their ball handling was excellent.

"They were just outclassed."

"Full credit to our guys. Not conceding a point really says something about their attitude. They seemed to get on really well."

They will now face Group 7 in a month's time and Reeves said he was excited to see how them in a day match.

"I can't wait to see this team play in the daytime," he said.

Erin Blackshaw was the only Highlands player to make an appearance on Friday night and Reeves said he put in a good performance despite coming off with a bleeding nose in the first half and a sore hand in the second.

"He used his footwork at the line well," he said.

"He's a young player and he's full of energy and enthusiasm."

With a few weeks still to go before their next match, Reeves said he hoped they could retain the core of the side and come through without too many injuries.

"If the spine of our team can come through unscathed, I think I can build a team around that. I'll try and keep their heads on the ground,," he said.

I agree they will be very tough to beat I hope group 6s win last week does not go to their heads. I saw a Warrilla game and the boys mentioned in their rep team along with others in that side just smashed it. will be a great game to watch..

Ive been reading some online editions from the papers down the far south coast and a plausible reason why group 16 performed so poorly is that their competition hasnt even started yet, they have only just finished a pre season comp. So the rep team was probably a little underdone coming into the game with group 6.

However the group 7 competition this year has been running as long as the group 6 competition and have some classy players in their squad with some hardened game time.Im sure coach brendan reeves knows group 16 were underdone and group 7 will offer alot more resitance in the next game especially with the game being played in their territory down at albion park.

Willy Newton! That makes it interesting.
He is hands down the best player I've EVER seen in group 6. Seriously, this is a guy who should've played 200 + NRL games. When he wanted to he made everyone else out there look like children. He's getting on a bit now, I'm pretty sure I'm the same age as him (a spritely 34), so it will be interesting to see just how much of 'it' he's still got.

I think the majority of the time group 7 are a bit stronger than us. They definitely have the better of the head to heads since I've been around. In saying that though, this is the strongest team our group has fielded for some time. Lots of experience playing at a higher level and talent all over. I'll definitely be watching this one.

Watched Willie play a few weeks ago down at Berry, I think he scored 20+ points himself, still does the job ever if he is half a step slower than when he was in Group 6.

I think we keep forgetting that in the past for some reason group 6 have never done themselves justice with some highly questionable selections and quality players not committing, I have seen group 7... and as far as player quality goes we have a far better product. what they have done better in the past is pick their strongest possible squad, while group 6 for political reasons, hidden or personal agendas or just poor player selections have run with substandard teams and as a result have had little success, which fails to reflect the strength of this comp. Last year the group took a step in the right direction with the rep team and this year I know for a fact coach Reeves would not be involved with a substandard squad, congrats to group 6 this year it is a great squad and the 82 point victory was no fluke. my tip group 6 by 16+ versus group 7. Any thoughts?

Yes we both know for a fact that Reeves was the sole selector this year.
I agree with you, the past sides have had the token selections.
I've got a question for everyone, with Rocky Trimarchi not committing to the side, do you think he will have a change of heart now that he is suspended? Is Warrick Carter also suspended? When does this suspension elapse?
