GROUP 6 representative team coach Brendon Reeves is pleased with the squad which will compete in this year's Country Rugby League Championships.

The team faces Group 20 team, the Razorbacks, at Cooma Showground on June 1 at 10am.

Reeves is confident he can mould his players into a competitive team.

But with some time remaining before the big game, he will keep an eye on a few players before reducing the squad.

"The squad will be gradually whittled down to the 17 who will travel to Cooma to take on Group 20," Reeves said.

"The 17 is by no means finalised and strong showings and form changes over the next few weeks could even see guys come into the side from outside this 23.

"Injuries could play their part so I'll still be looking at players in the next few weeks - it's all about ensuring Group 6 gets its strongest possible squad.

"We're a bit light on centres so I'll be looking at centres who are jumping out of the ground in the coming weeks."

Reeves hails from Quandialla, which is in the Group 20 zone, and believes his opponents will be a strong side, which will present a "very interesting test".

"The rep side is looking pretty solid, they've trained well and are all keen and enthusiastic," Reeves said.

"Shannon Gallant from the Narellan Jets looks very fit and focused, along with Stuart Flanagan from Thirlmere Roosters.

"If we win that game against Group 20 then we play Group 10. The winner goes into the final."

The squad includes Narellan players Allan McGrath, Shannon Gallant, Corey Shields and Ben Takaiwai; Camden players Christopher Corby, Wayde Dunley and Alex Vincent; Thirlmere/Tahmoor players Matthew Brasington and Stuart Flanagan; The Oaks players Christian Nahlous and Jaydin Tavita; Picton players Chris Young and Alex Peters; Oakdale players Sam Conlon, Brad Hopkins, Matt McCauley, Tom Moon and Kyle Weh and Mittagong players Scott Borg, Ben Baker, Warwick Carter, Robert Payne and Matthew Thorpe.

Wouldn't think any of them would want to play considering the dramas they have been put through

GROUP 20’S stranglehold on the Kelly Cup was broken in spectacular style on Saturday night at the hands of a Group 9 side hell-bent on revenge.

Despite winning the past three cup clashes, Group 20 had no answers for a scintillating Group 9 outfit that hammered the home side 50-10 at E W Moore Oval.

Group 9 piled on four tries in the first 20 minutes in a scorched earth effort that may have mortally wounded Group 20 ahead of next month’s Country Championships in Cooma.

Group 20 coach Chris Bamford said his side was woefully underprepared and completely outclassed.

“We only had four players from last year’s squad and only had one training session for the match,” Bamford said.

“Group 9 like to play fast footy and we just weren’t able to hold them down.

“Our attack was non-existent; it was all one-off the ruck and there were no calls being done.

“We did the best with the side we had but it’s disappointing.”

He said it would be a “completely different side” for the championships, with seven more players back from last year’s all-conquering team.

Group 20s only tries came through a one-dimensional crash-over from prop Chris Latu and a classy 30-metre try from Leeton flyer Kolo Lomu.

Group 9 coach Daniel Fitzhenry said he had an embarrassment of riches ahead of the Country Championships.

“The only problem will be cutting the squad down for the championships,” Fitzhenry said.

“I was quite happy with the way things went.

“We made a few mistakes, but we defended really well.”

For Group 20, the best by a country mile was hooker Andrew Lavaka, but others were well short of representative calibre.

Group Nine scored some super tries, none better than Jade Williams’ strike off a Manawatu pass in the 77th minute following a blistering lead-up.

didn't play against us on the weekend.
Nick Crouch is a bit of a bolter, although I doubt he will play, he injured his groin on the weekend

So dunley is still under Camden (not that he is signed with them) and named in group 6 rep team when there was no apparent team he plays for..can anyone inform me how this works.. By rights he shouldn't have to be there..

Brasington has been in good form, he would be the logical replacement
