Just watched a video of the game and the Narellan number 12 was hard done by! Got ten for getting punched blatenly twice and no retaliation, got ten for chasing the player that punched him the second time and all he done was clench a fist! And got send for the game for Grtting tackled! Worst refereeing performance of the year off mr cini! Will be lucky to get the under 11's next week after judiciary get ahold of the video
Hate to sound like a sore loser but must agree re referee. Admittedly number 12 has a history but in this instance he got whacked twice then got binned for the audacity of defending himself, then sent off later for saying to the ref 'bout time' when Jets got a penalty.....hardly an offence.

Baker got marched as well for throwing a punch but his opposite got off after he threw a few too. They make the rules up each week and wonder why players and crowd get up refs...the refs have got no idea.

Ask him what he did to get the slap on the back of the head. If he doesn't tell you he grabbed the tacklers testicles, he has no cred at all. And who kicks someone on the ground? that's why he got sent. That kid has some potential, but his constant dog shotting is killing his name and the side.
Baker was the only one throwing punches, and for no reason at all, that was the silliest thing.

Congrats to your boys TC. Big game next Saturday. Thirlmere at Thirlmere on Saturday night.
Yeah big game, we came out of today very unscathed. Slow game to say the least.
thanks to the eagles reggies too, formed a guard for us, and clapped us on, it didn't go un-noticed, good sporting gesture.
Thanks TC, no problems! I was impressed with my father in law Glen Harding, I heard your strapper was running late or needed a hand, so he ducked in and gave you guys a hand while keeping a watch on our game, people like Glen are good for the game and we could do with more people like him!

Heartbreak For Spuds

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/257546/heartbreak-for-spuds/?cs=264
Posted Image
Arron Ditton crosses the line for the Spuds in what could well have been the winning try of the match. Photo by Lauren Wright.

IT was the most heartbreaking loss Robertson Spuds had suffered all year. For the first time in the 2012 season it appeared the undefeated Macarthur Bulls were going to be beaten.Down 32-22 in the second half, the Spuddies staged a courageous comeback and a try to Arron Ditton in the final five minutes of the match with a conversion by Mitchell Wright put them in front. With two Macarthur players in the sin bin, Robertson had the advantage.

The bench was fired up and the players were fired up and it seemed a maiden victory over Macarthur was on the cards. With about 30 seconds to go Robertson were on the Bulls line before it all went horribly wrong.

An intercept and length of the field try gave Macarthur Bulls a two point lead and as the hooter went, the Spuds were left to ponder what went wrong in their 36-34 loss.

It all came down to just two points again, the same margin the Bulls had won by in their last meeting and Robertson again came agonisingly close.

Robertson captain Doug Tilly said a slow start may well have cost them the game.

“We still started real slow. In the first 15 minutes they scored two tries and we’ve got to stop doing that. We have no respect for the ball, we do one good thing right then two bad things,” he said.

“I mean we’ve got the team to go all the way but we just keep throwing it away.”

Ten points down in the second half, Tilly said their strong comeback was encouraging and the never say die attitude of the team was what kept them in the match.

“It is very encouraging to come back like we have. To throw it away at the start of the game and then to come back like we have is a full credit to the boys. The one thing with the boys is it doesn’t matter if they got 30 ahead, everyone still keeps pushing. That’s the best thing about having a young side like this is that they get behind but everyone just wants to keep pushing.”

Tilly said five-eight Aaron de Jager led the team around the field well and the front rowers again provided a platform for the backs.

“Matt Rolles and Clarke Walker they just went forward and they set a platform for the backs, We just didn’t go all the way with it.”

Robertson will have another chance this weekend and Tilly said they needed to come out fired up and have respect for the ball if they were to win.

Lions come out on top in do or die clash
http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/255946/lions-come-out-on-top-in-do-or-die-clash/?cs=264
By Lauren Wright
Aug. 27, 2012, midnight

IN a do or die clash, Mittagong reserve grade came out on top and will progress through to the next round of the finals after an 18-6 victory over The Oaks on Saturday night. While The Oaks came out firing, so too did the Lions who were the first to score. In his first game back after a knee injury, Josh Rose's defensive pressure caused The Oaks to turn the ball over early in the game.

Tom Cook scored in the next set and a conversion by Corey Martin put Mittagong in the lead 6-0.It was not long before The Oaks levelled and the scored remained level at halftime.

Both teams came back out in the second half determined to get the win but the deadlock was not broken until midway through the second half.A penalty against The Oaks gave Mittagong an opportunity to go ahead.

They decided to take the two but a miss from Martin left the score tied.

Just a few minutes later, an overlap on the The Oaks left side defence allowed Rhyce McLaren to score and put the Lions four points in front.

Martin didn't miss his next shot and Mittagong skipped out to a 12-6 lead.

The Oaks hit back and put pressure on the Lions but their defence continued to hold.

In the final minutes of the match Mark Williams put the icing on the cake for Mittagong with another try and Martin's third conversion left the Lions 18-6 in front.

Both teams had won one match each against each other throughout the season and while Mittagong had steamrolled them in their last meeting, the Lions knew Saturday night would be a much tougher match.

Lions skipper Daniel Fairbairn said he was pleased to get away with the win but was disappointed with the performance of their halves.

"For the boys to still win by 12 points and the halves let us down is a big big effort so I'm proud of the boys. They come out screaming at us so for us to stay with them and go one more step ahead in the first 20 minutes was absolutely unreal, so can't be any happier with that," he said.

When McLaren scored it appeared Mittagong had the edge and would go on to win but Fairbairn said those on the field were less than certain.

"Confident but still weren't there with the feeling that we were going to win. The Oaks are a great side and we just had to keep going with them."

A number of under-18s players stepped up on Saturday night and Fairbairn said they all played well, McLaren in particular.

"Rhyce McLaren from the 18s was a big standout and apart from that the whole team stood up and I was just happy with that."

Fairbairn said while their defence was solid on Saturday night, they needed to improve their attack.

"Our defence was great but our attack was a bit poor. I've got to admit we've got to lift in attack and that goes with the two halves."

Lions roast Thirlmere Roosters

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/255945/lions-roast-thirlmere-roosters/?cs=264

Erin Blackshaw gets ready to make a tackle. Photo by Roy Truscott

MIDWAY through the first half things looked grim for Mittagong first grade. But once they got the ball they showed what they could do in front of their home crowd and Thirlmere-Tahmoor never really got close. The Lions were down 22-4 in the first half before tries to Ricky Garard (2) and Sebastian Sell had them trailing 22-14 at halftime.

After the break it was all Mittagong, with Garard crossing for another two tries for a total of four for the night.

Warwick Carter, Troy Martin and Ryan Borg also crossed the line in Mittagong's 46-22 win over Thirlmere.

Coach Scott Borg said it was a good win after struggling to get into the game at the start.

"It was great. We were down 22-4 but we probably had about 10 per cent of the ball in the first half and we just knew every time they scored a try we just had to dig in and the time will come when we get the ball. Suddenly we got the ball and they couldn't stop us from there," he said.

The Lions have had a soft run into the semis but it seemed to have little effect on them once they got going.

The last two sets of six they had in the first half resulted in tries and the win has put them only one victory away from a grand final berth.

"We didn't take our foot off the pedal. we didn't care if it was a two point lead or a 20 point lead we just kept going. We knew if you gave them a chance they'd come back and beat us. Luckily we scored some good tries and some lucky tries off some kicks."

Borg said Garard with his four tries had an excellent game as did young five-eight Matt Thorpe.

'I thought our forwards were good. There's been a lot of talk about we've just got match winners, people that can score tries but we don't have any go forward. I think they took it forward for us and they're the ones at won us the game. (They) played up the middle and gave our halves and Warwick (Carter) some room to go through them."

Zac Blackshaw was the only injury concern from Saturday night's match.

He left the field in the second half after aggravating an injury to his left knee which has kept him out most of the season.

Carter was in doubt for the match with a hamstring injury and after struggling in the warm up he battled through.

Brayden Groth was absent because of broken fingers but is due to return this weekend for the Lions big clash against minor premiers Campbelltown Eagles.

Borg said they would need to improve everything against a team which is yet to be beaten this season.

"We've got a big week ahead of us and all we need is one more win and we'll have achieved our goal of making the grand final. (We need to) cut out the errors.

"If we make the errors that we made against Thirlmere today the Eagles won't be 20 points in front, they'll be 40 points in front.

"So we've got to cut out the errors and cut out the penalties and we'll do well."

Well done to Mittagong on Saturday night, although after first 20 mins, looked like roosters were on their way to comfortable win. To Mitta's credit they stuck to their guns, never panicked and exposed the big roosters forwards up the middle to run away with a decisive victory. Oakdale are still alive to defend their title with a win over the jets on Sunday. The game was a little stop/start with the referee coming up with some interesting interpretations of the rules at times, however despite Narellan scoring a few typical unorthadox tries, the workers never really looked like losing even though they did make a few errors. Notably a few key players returning from lengthy injuries flanagan and masters made a solid impact, with Ron Jones and suspended Tukia Muli set to return it sets up a mouthwatering clash with the Roosters on Sat night. Any tips??

Just watched the game also. Number 12 from Narellan was very hard done by. Totally targeted all game with punches to the face ball thrown in his face and hit to the back of the head, with little more than a penalty given to Oaldale. I thought that striking was an immediate send off offence in group 6!!! Then to be sat down for 10 minutes for walking forward when the guy hit him in the back of the head! As for the send off there was no kick or any striking by 12, the camera was almost directly in front of the incident and you can see his legs the whole time.
Oaldale are lucky to be playing with a full compliment of players after all of their serious indescressions in that game.

Camden skipper calls it a day

Camden rugby league player Paul Neville shares a moment with his daughter Indiana after playing his final game

Camden Group 6 first grade rugby league player Paul Neville pulled on the tricolour jersey for the final time in the last game of the season.
Neville, the Rams' captain for the past two years, reached a milestone earlier this season when he led his team out against Mittagong in his 200th first grade game for the club.

But the 33-year-old, who has been linked to the Rams as a junior and senior for almost two decades, has called it a day and decided to hang up his boots after playing 14 seasons with the Rams' first grade team.

Neville's biggest fan, wife Nicole, said her husband went out with a bang, scoring a try in his final game against Oakdale.

She supports his decision to retire and spend more time with their four-month-old daughter Indiana.

"He had some surgery in January on his elbow and I think it's mainly the injuries that have played a part in his decision," Nicole said.

"He's a bit more sore and sorry after the games now.

"The nerves were still there in his last game and he said he was happy even though they didn't win."

Neville has won three first grade premierships with Camden and rates them among the highlights of his career, since joining as a junior in 1993 and making his first grade debut in 1998.

Possessing a strong connection with the Rams, Neville will find it difficult to sever ties completely.

"I think he'd still like to be involved with the Rams in some way, whether it's running the water or coaching or attending games, but definitely on some level," Nicole said.

"He's definitely not planning on just up and leaving and he hopes to stick around the club."

Camden coach Mark De Ubago described Neville as a champion who had helped many junior players progress through the ranks.

"As club men go he is No.1 with players always looking for money or premierships, Paul stayed true and would not play for anyone else," De Ubago said.

Very quiet on here,
BD, i've heard a whisper that you have slapped a media ban on footylover and red eagle????
I'll weigh in on Sundays game. Mittagong won't go through the middle of the eagles like they did thirlmere, and if they concede the early points that they gave up to thirlmere it may just be lights out.
Does anyone know if the mac bulls have the week off?

Our 18s have copped a pasting on here this year but come Sunday they will show the quailty side they are, Dont want to put to much pressure on them but id tip if they get over the Roos on Sunday the young Bulls will be capable of going all the way, If these boys put it together they will beat any side.

Ronny from Collies/Appin were ever your from take the trip down Mossy Sunday and watch the boys go around you may need to eat some humble pie Ronster so ill be sure to make sure a request is put in to have some available for you at the ground.

I agree Macbull, i have sat back and read all of the rubbish that has been put on your boys this year and i think they have done very well.

I coached our U18's for the last few games and when we played your boys at Mittagong they showed nothing but great sportsmanship and the respect between yours and our players was great...

Again, your boys have done very well, good luck to them in their finals campaign!
