Found this on the Group 6 web site. Group 6 RLweb site Picton Magpies 2012 Picton Magpies RLFC are excited to announce their coaching line up for the 2012 Season. 2012 Under 18’s Coach WILL MONDS - Will played with the Magpies for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He was the Captain Coach of Reserve Grade in 1992 and Captain Coach of First Grade in 1994. Will also played representative football for both Group 6 and Southern Division during his playing career. He has been involved with the Magpie Junior club in recent years. 2012 Reserve Grade Coach MITCHELL FAGAN - Mitch will take the role of Captain/Coach in Season 2012. He has played with the Magpies for the past seven years and has been very involved with the club, behind the scenes as well as on the field. He coached the Magpies U/18 B’s in 2007 and was Assistant Coach for Picton Junior’s very successful U/16A’s, who were undefeated Premiers this season. Mitch is looking forward to the 2012 Season. 2012 First Grade Coach RUSSELL LEWIS – We have great pleasure in welcoming Russell to the Picton Magpies. Russell has extensive experience as a player and coach. He recently relocated to Picton from the Sutherland Shire where he started his senior coaching career in 1990 as Captain/Coach of the Cronulla Workers “A” Grade. Since 1990 he has coached sides with great success with many reaching the Finals. Russell will be assisted in 2012 by Brian Taylor taking the role of Manager/Trainer. Brian was the Group Senior side Coach in 2011. With the combined efforts of both of these experienced men the Picton Magpies are looking forward to the Season ahead. Any players interested in joining the Magpies for the 2012 season can contact Darren Jones (President) on 0411 200 887 or Jane Simpson (Secretary) on 0401 324 062. Fencey are you serious?! Why would any genuine 1st grade player from Picton or Thirlmere want to play 3rd grade for Bargo next year?! Not in this universe. What will happen, assuming Bargo do get up next year, is they will get a ton of players that have played reserve grade at Picton and Thirlmere in the past couple of years. The last 2 years both clubs have had a large contingent of players with little commitment who can't be bothered training and are much more interested in partying than playing. The relaxed atmosphere and lax approach to training they expect will appeal to them. Many of these guys will go to Bargo, I guarantee. And from all reports a bunch of our 18s from this year (again the ones who had trouble turning up) already expressed an interest in playing 3rd grade next year, before the Bargo push became public. Is it a good thing if Bargo gets up and running? I'm not sure. I have a very nasty feeling that we will really struggle in reserve grade next year if the player drain I'm expecting does happen. Thirlmere will be no different. And for that matter, since Bargo is currently part of Thirlmere's area, I'm sure they will have something to say about it. |

where would Bargo play?? The AFL have the showground and the Soccer club plays out at Yerrinbool which is in the highlands so to speak. Maybe the Anglican school?? if it has a ground of standard?? Buxton has a sports ground but its is way to small! Edited by Highlander, Dec 15 2011, 08:37 PM.

Maybe at Picton's new sports ground out on Fairley's Rd. I went and had a look at that the other day - the council have mowed a patch in a paddock and that is going to be a new sport's ground. I think it is going to be a very very long time coming!

Well who would of thought an ex NRL 20's player would play 2nd Grade for Appin, it happens where guys want to play with mates or people want the easy option to win a Premiership, I do think it will drain Reserve Grade players from your club but saying that, if they are not committed, they are not worthy to play for your great club, Dad played for you guys many many years ago, he still loves your club, he goes to watch many games |

Third Grade unfortunately is a drain on all clubs that have limited drawing areas and cant fied sides in firsts, resrves and thirds. Most young blokes these days if given the easy option of playing a game of footy having a beer with their mates and not really having to train all that hard will take it. Combine this with playing most games on a saturday and it becomes a real problem to retain reserve grade players. The group needs to address this issue or sooner or later they will have a more popular 3rd grade comp than 1st grade. |

It's a good idea that there is a game available to those that want to play. Not every player has the ability or desire to play grade and a 3rd grade will give them the opportunity to still play footy each weekend. It will be up to the Group to ensure that the point's system is enforced and those playing are genuine 3rd grade players. Foal has said that many of the players looking to have a run at the proposed Bargo club are those players who aren't committed to making an effort or turning up to training, if this is the case, then why would first grade and reggie teams want them. Let's also remember that this "club" is not affiliated with group 6 at the moment, the issue has to go to a General Meeting, which propbably won't be held until the end of February. |

Don't think bargo will have a drama being voted in they as been stated will be genuine third grade club which the group have an obligation to cater for these players I think it's great group 6 are promoting rugby league and catering for all standards best of luck to bargo I'm sure they will have no impact on neighboring clubs as they are players they don't want anyway well done group 6 good initiative shown and the comp is only getting bigger and stronger |

I agree with you, the players that want to play in 3rd grade are looking for a fun game of footy on the weekend and then off to the local to talk up their game. They don't want to train two nights a week or their work commitments don't allow them the time. These aren't the players that clubs want in 1sts or reggies.

But in saying that Lecky it keeps some clubs alive!! WE only play on Satday as we have no choice ATM (AFL) But if all goes(EVERYONE FINGERS CROSSED) well that may soon be resolved!!! Since 2002 Moss vale, Mittagong, the Oaks,Narellan and soon Appin will be clubs that have been in 3rd grade that are now strong 1st grade clubs!!! So there is merit i hope we are one of those in a few years time aswell!! |

There's a rumour flying around that The Oaks are in a spot of bother, in regards to their board? Is it true that the still haven't formed a committee? |

The concept has some merit. It only takes a couple of lean years, and clubs really start finding it hard. I remember Mittagong and moss vale being the whipping boys, it was almost a guaranteed 2 points, but they got their gear in order, and sometimes it takes a step backward to be able to go forward. There's no excuse for some clubs though. They are just poorly run, and will forever be 3rd grade until their board changes. |

Very true T.C But we should take some heart knowing we have a 3rd grade comp to play in and the premier competition is not weaker for it!! alot of clubs in other groups have folded in the last few years we should take heart that were growing as a competition!! I was in the HMAS Albatross Rugby league clubhouse today and saw 30 years of history sitting in a corner collecting dust and was really sadderned knowing that the ground is going to be destroyed and all the photos and history lost!! That's a terrible pity for that club. It's a sad fact of life but as the old guard in a club moves one and new committees take over, a lot of history is lost. The stories behind pertpetual & memorial trophies often get forgotten in the changes, the honour rolls of life members become meaningless because no one knows the stories behind them. Often a club's history is passed on by word of mouth rather than written down and it eventually gets lost. We probably need to make an effort to write it down. Many years ago there was a book (booklet) about the history of Group 6 Rugby League (I have a copy in the house somewhere ). I wonder if there is the possibility of getting it updated and reprinted?
