Why don't they just pull the funding?
I think G6 will but the CRL are too busy sucking up to West Tigers, who seem to think they own everything in G6 & west area - they apparently own SWSAS as well.
Big publicity stunt for CRL - looks like they are supporting G6 but the money goes elsewhere.

Had a big chat with big esky today and he is also going to jamberoo in group 7 with robbie noble and scott drewe. I can understand his reasons , he is still motivated to play first grade and playing mossy 3rd grade just isnt going to cut it, frankly IMO and others may agree he is too good to play 3rds considering he is also a group 6 rep and one of the leading forwards in group 6. Out of respect to mossy as well he did not want to play for another group 6 club despite fielding some good offers from some ,but others think his move is selfish as they had him earmarked to capt/coach 3rds, he told me he is not ready to and doesnt want to coach yet. A few old heads from mossy are dissappointed he is going but they should concentrate on getting their house back in order now and take some accountability as to why they are in this situation now, being reactive instead of proactive has been one factor. These players want to play at a high level and if mossy cant provide that then you cant blame them for looking elsewhere.

With robbie noble, scott drewe & elliot esquilant going to jamberoo, mark delamont going to mittagong, i have been told also that willie macdonald is also looking at going over the gib to join the lions also. Scott borg and willie played together at thirroul butchers in 2008 so theres a connection there.
STU there is going to come a time when the area needs to accept that it cant sustain 5 senior clubs. Having 4 of them in 3rds shows this also with the macarthur growing in families and the Highlands full of old farts from sydney retiring here its an uphill battlle.

On Esky can you really blame him? he is a Mossy Boy but if they can't field a team what choice has he?? he will kill it in group 7 I hope they enjoy the batemans bay run lol

Mr Canavan wrote his report based on the parameters he was given by the NSWRL. They didn't want him looking at the problems with the JL administration and he didn't. He can only operate within the brief he was given.

Got to say that the recommendations of the report would be a lot more acceptable to the G6 clubs & management if there was a broom put thru the JL management but with them still in place their is no chance that they will ever agree to a joint comp.

Good luck to the big fella, he's been a good opponent for a long time.
He doesn't need to stay around for 3rd grade, especially if he still wants to play firsts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but all moss vale first graders will now become 2 point players at their new club because there is no suitable alternative?

All good @ bundy. We have transfers for 5 players being worked on. These were all registered players with us before in union in 2011/10. Except one. Strong numbers @ bundy training since January, averaging @ 18 per session with 27 signed. Good mix of youth and experience. Looking fwd to trials with MT Annan & Bargo in the coming weeks.
Can you confirm from the article below from decembers local newspaper if Bundanoon cannot take players from another group 6 club then why have the highlanders got 5 clearances from Moss Vale ????

New Bundanoon coach Brett Breeze and president Chris Ingmire get ready for the 2012 season at Bundanoon Oval. Photo by Lauren Wright

AFTER months of uncertainty, Bundanoon Highlanders have announced they will join Group 6 rugby league for the 2012 season. When negotiations with Illawarra District Rugby Union (IDRU) stalled, Bundanoon turned to Group 6.
No longer the Highlanders, Bundanoon Rugby League will play as a stand alone club in Group?6's third grade equivalent.

With a new code and a new committee, president Chris Ingmire said it was looking up for the club now that a decision had been made about its future.

"It's all going forward," he said. "I think we'll go well. Everyone's fairly keen for it."

While Bundanoon cannot take players from other clubs within Group 6 competition for the 2012 season, Ingmire said they had already picked up a few extra players.Ingmire said key players from the Bundanoon team last year such as Kyal Martin, Dane Trompete, Lachlan Parry, Dan Hewson and Cheynne Denning had also expressed their interest to remain with the club and play rugby league.

Bundanoon struggled in the IDRU second grade competition last year and while many players had hoped to stay with Illawarra, Ingmire said they looked forward to a new challenge next year.

"It's a bit disappointing, [but] everyone's pretty happy to go to league," he said.

There will also be a new man in charge, with Brett Breeze to take on the coaching role for Bundanoon.

Breeze has had experience as a rugby league coach and was involved with Moss Vale Dragons for a number of years.

"I'm looking forward to coaching," he said. "I think they've got a pretty good group of fellas here who are really keen, so I think they should adapt to rugby league and it should be a good season," Breeze said.

While a number of players had had league experience, Breeze said he wanted to get the basics right to begin with and hoped they could be competitive.

"I think we'll just keep it pretty simple to start with," he said.

Bundanoon will hold a sign-up evening on Saturday, January 15, at the Central Hotel in Moss Vale.Any players aged 17 and over are encouraged to join, with training beginning on Tuesday, January 17, at Bundanoon Oval at 6pm.

"Even though the guys played rugby union, I think rugby league is such a popular sport [that] everyone knows the basic rules of the game so I don't think it'll take them long to adapt," Breeze said.

"As long as the guys are competitive in their first season that's the main thing."

Moss Vale Dragons lose their fire

RUGBY league comes with highs and lows, And no club knows this better at the moment than the Moss Vale Dragons. After claiming the premiership in 2010, the Dragons have now had to pull out of first grade for the 2012 season. What was once a great club now appears to be in decline but club members and former players remain hopeful their demotion will only last a year.

"It was just a lack of player numbers and not enough players to put on the field," Dragons president Greg Maloney said.

"It's been difficult but you can't do much about it when there's not enough to field a first grade team."

"It was quite a hard decision to make. The reality was we're better to field one good team and build back into first grade next year. The club sees this as a one year operation."

Throughout pre-season, Moss Vale lost a number of key senior first grade players which hit the club hard.Dan Drewe and Shane Martin were unable to play due to work commitments, Elliot Esquilant, Scott Drewe and Robbie Noble have headed down the coast to Jamberoo, a few players went overseas, Tim Small defected to the Bowral Blacks and as the prospect of playing third grade loomed large, skipper Willie McDonald also jumped ship.McDonald has not yet decided where he will play this year, but has spoken to both Jamberoo and Mittagong Lions.

"I reckon having third grade teams haven't helped at all. Personally I reckon it's a load of rubbish. People play third grade and that takes away a lot of our player depth," McDonald said.

"Four or five players have gone back to Bundy and there's a few out at Robbo and Bowral who were Mossy juniors I think. The Group needs to look at whether they want a viable first grade comp or just play third grade. Personally I think it's a waste of time. Some people are not really serious; [they] just want to play footy for fun. It makes it hard when you've got small towns."

And with even more third grade clubs under the Group 6 banner this year with the inclusion of Bundanoon and Bargo, players have even more options than before.

But Group 6 chairman Grahame Andrews said it was issues within the club which had led to Moss Vale's problems and nothing else.

"People may suggest Bundanoon haven't helped but Bundanoon wouldn't provide first grade players," Andrews said.

"It's very very disappointing. They've spoken to prospective players in and out of the Group, but it's too far to travel. I think we can help Moss Vale; we're determined to try and get them back in first grade."

Bundanoon president Chris Ingmire said while a few players had come over from Moss Vale to play for them, they had previously been involved with the club.

"The players that came back were players for us before and had one year at Moss Vale and one other bloke who came to play with his mate," he said.

Former player Tim Small said rather than third grade draining player resources, it was internal issues which led to a lack of players.

"Just one of those transitional years where unfortunately for the club the top players have other pursuits. The committee was probably a bit idle in retaining and securing top players through pre-season and this had a flow on effect down the grades," he said.

While it may be tough times ahead for Moss Vale, the hopes of the club now hang on the juniors.

"The new [junior] committee is doing a good job for the club. We've struggled to get under-18s for the last couple of years [but] the 18s are the best group I've seen at the club for a long time."

Small agreed the future of the club's juniors was looking good.

"Numbers are ok in the juniors which hopefully sees the club lift again next year if they can secure some established first grade players a little earlier. It's such a great club and such a shame to see the club go from premiers to not fielding a team in space of two years."

Moss Vale have not been the only club to struggle.Bowral Blues may yet have to withdraw from the third grade competition, also due to lack of numbers. After signing former Moss Vale coach Randall 'Cheeky' Laughton for the 2012 season, Andrews said he had expected to see a boost in the club's numbers.

"I was delighted when the signed Cheeky. I don't know what the problem is."

group should be holding back those clearances unless the club dont have enough players with that five to form a team and moss vale inform the group that they cant field a side for 2012.
If Mossy cant offer a team to play in they have to let them go just as Appin has...but when you have other clubs poaching players and help from clubs representatives group 6 need to step in and do something to support the clubs involved.

Mr John Grant
Locked Bag 5000
Paddington NSW 2021

Mr Carr wants a specific outcome so no surprise that the parameters of the study were designed to produce that outcome.
Talk to the 3 campbelltown clubs - they want to train & play out their home grounds - if there was a joint comp they could do this.
Talk to ESA - they want a stronger competition - if there was a joint comp they could have this.
Don't talk to any other G6 clubs - they will make negative comments - they don't want that.

Eagles set to swoop on Group 6
By Sean Cunningham Wed, Mar 7 2012

Set to soar: Campbelltown Eagles coaches Richard Barnes (right) and Jason Hazelton (second right) and players Jarryd Eggleton (from left), Ben Weir and Michael Stevens and (back, from left) Glen Harding, Michael Ginnelly and Daniel Draper are eager for the season to start.Picture: Jonathan Ng

STILL smarting from last season's Group 6 first grade rugby league grand final defeat against Oakdale, Campbelltown Eagles are intent on claiming the premiership to avenge last season's failure at the final hurdle.
Although the Eagles realise that to achieve this will be no stroll in the park, their sights are set on mounting a serious challenge on the premiership.
Eagles' joint coaches Richard Barnes and Jason Hazelton plan a dual-pronged attack to achieve their goals.
They believe their players have done the hard yards during pre-season training to be competitive and could use the heartbreaking grand final loss as motivation this year.
"It was very disappointing — I absolutely still burn over that," Barnes said.
"The boys are out for revenge and want some sort of redemption for it but we're not kidding ourselves, we know how much hard work we'll have to do.
"We want to get into the top three and, hopefully, if we learn from last year that'll benefit us.
"The boys are motivated on that but we can't just concentrate on revenge for the grand-final loss."
Losing key players Matthew Blunden, who left to try rugby union with Camden, and Brad Hopkins, who left for England, the Eagles have retained the bulk of their squad from last season.
New signings Will Dreves of Picton, Ben Weir of Camden and Mason Talalou, who returns to the club after playing two years with Wests Tigers national 20s team, will bolster the ranks.
Set to soar when the competition starts, the Eagles will rely on a trio of players to reproduce the fine form they displayed last year.
Barnes said the team had talent in all positions.
"My key players again will be Wayde Dunley, Sam Hoare and John da Silva," he said.
"But we've got a lot of young players who keep surprising at training and they could force their way into the team.
"The boys have a lot of energy and are getting stuck in so I think we'll be hard to beat and we can't wait to get going and get the wheels turning for the start of the season."
Barnes praised the club's backroom staff who he said had "done an outstanding job in the pre-season making it easier for us to get the boys ready for games".
Daniel Draper will coach the reserves, Allan Knight and Allan Rousell will coach third grade and Michael Ginnelly will coach the under-18s.

Group 6 league will start soon

07 Mar, 2012 01:00 AM

Wollondilly Advertiser
THE wait is almost over for local footy starved fans .
The elite rugby league competition featuring local teams, the Group 6 competition, will start the winter season on March 25.

The scheduled Group 6 first grade rugby league competition originally included 11 teams but two have recently pulled out.

Mostly due to lack of player numbers, last year's beaten grand finalists Moss Vale and the Appin team, which planned to enter a first grade team for the first time in many years, plan not to enter a first grade team.

The competition will include nine teams in first grade this season.

Unless the current draw is revamped, the opening round will feature blockbuster games with the traditional derby round clashes.

Thirlmere/Tahmoor, with new coach Dane Wooden in charge, will host rivals Picton, under the guidance of their new coach Russell Lewis.

Campbelltown City Kangaroos are at home against fellow Campbelltown club Campbelltown Eagles.

Coach Daryn Fallshaw will be in charge of Narellan against Camden at Narellan Sportsground.
