MEDIA RELEASE Date: 23 March 2012 RE: TRIAL - CRL UNDER 18 REDBACKS VS WESTERN RAMS A trial will be held for the Greater Southern Region’s Under 18 Redback squad against the Western Rams at Victoria Park, Picton on Saturday, 24 March at 1.30pm. The Redbacks are a composite team of players from the Illawarra and the Group 6 area while the Western Rams are traditionally from west of the Blue Mountains and covers area like Bathurst, Orange Dubbo and surrounds. This will be a good measure of the somewhat disrupted preparation the Redbacks have had recently due to the weather conditions but coach, Jason Hazelton is confident he has the right cattle to improve on the 2011 results. The Rams have won the championships in the previous two years and are clearly the team to beat. The Redbacks were successful in gaining the Greater Southern Region Challenge trophy against the Greater Southern Stingrays last Saturday in Bateman’s Bay. The Stingrays are the sibling team to the Redbacks and comprises of players from the Group 7 and Group 16 regions. The elimination rounds of the CRL Under 18 Regional Championships will be held on 14-15 April in Wingham (near Taree) and will include all six (6) regions within Country NSW. |

Redbacks vs Western Rams Trial Group 6 Web Site Group 6 hosted the Southern Redbacks vs Western Rams trial at Victoria Park, Picton, today. Finally we had some beautiful weather for footy and a great game to watch. After a convincing win against the Stringrays last weekend at Bateman's Bay, the Redbacks were very keen to get out on the paddock and do it again. The Western Rams, made up of Groups 10, 11 & 14, are a strong oufit and and have been very successful over the years. The game kicked off at 1.30pm with the Rams scoring early in the half. Once the Redbacks settled in it was obvious that the game wasn't going to be a one way street. Half time saw the Western Rams leading the Redbacks by only 2 points (14-12). The 2nd half was a hard tussle and when the final hooter sounded the Western Rams 24 came out on top of the Southern Redbacks 18. Despite the loss our boys were in it all the way! Redbacks Tries: No. 4 Will Tom (2); No. 5 Gus Gibbons (1) Conversions: No. 3 Ihia Kohima (3 from 3) Western Rams Tries: No. 3 Jarrod Robbins (2); No. 13 Mick Ingersen (2); No. 11 Lewis Stanely (1) Conversions: No. 6 Chad Porter (1 from 3); No. 17 Swade Dunn (1 from 2) The Redbacks next rep game will be against the Bidgee Bulls (Canberra/Riverina) on the 14th April at Wingham. Picton went down 36-20 to Thirlmere in first grade. We were without Young, Poisel and Valentine but there's no doubting the roosters are a very good team. Barely recognisable from last year though, I counted only 3 players from last years team out there. That points cap must be under some real pressure. Their halback Trotter is a very good player, as is his brother in the centres. Glad to say we matched it with them in the 2nd half, but we couldn't recover after letting them skip to 16-0 after 15 minutes. Reserve grade was woeful. Thirlmere 32-0 (I think). Under 18s, Picton 60-0 with the mercy rule being applied, I hear, didn't see that one. |

What happened to all of Camden's big name signings? Jets are hard to beat at home and always are up for the local derby but jesus! The Camden coach would need to be worried he has bought in a heap of imports over the last 2 years plus this year getting a heap of representative local juniors back and to get that result first up......

Picton 18's played some solid footy but if there going to be a top side there going to have to cut out silly mistake Bigger sides like Mittagong are going to punish them if they slip up |

Narellan won 35-4 !!A great day and a great win. The Silvertails vs Struggle Town. If the Jets can keep this young team on the paddock they should shake this comp this year, and way under points too. Good to see some good ol' home town support today too. Next stop Mittagong |
