Bundanoon gored by Bulls

BY LAUREN WRIGHT

25 Apr, 2012 12:00 AM
http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/bundanoon-gored-by-bulls/2532726.aspx

IT was another sad and sorry day for Bundanoon on Sunday after they were thumped 52-6 by Macarthur Bulls.

Chris Ingmire was the only player to cross the line for Bundanoon and they trailed 26-4 at the break.

Ingmire said defence let them down and a few injured players also made it difficult for them.

"Our defence wasn't really up to scratch," he said.

Ingmire opened the scoring for the match but soon after the Bulls hit back and from then on there was no stopping them.

Coach Brett Breeze said they were simply outplayed by a better team.

"We just had problems containing their big guys. We just got outplayed on the day," he said.

"We stuck with them for the first 25 minutes and then our defence started to fall away and we fell off tackles."

With the difference 22 points at halftime, Breeze said he was disappointed they failed to produce a competitive performance in the second half.

"I thought we could have made a bit more of a game of it. At various stages in the first half we were camped in their 20 metre zone for long periods of time."

"We couldn't break their defence and then when they had the ball they were just too strong for us. We couldn't compete with them on the day."

Breeze said front rowers Chris Ingmire and Paul Quigg were standouts for their high work rate throughout the match.

But while it was a difficult weekend for Bundanoon, Breeze said he was confident they could bounce back.

"We need to keep working and moving forward. We're a work in progress," he said.

Nifty Neville reaches 200

BY SEAN CUNNINGHAM

CAMDEN first grade rugby league player Paul Neville (pictured) will reach a milestone on Sunday when he takes to the field against Mittagong.
Neville, the Rams captain will lead his team out in his 200th first grade game for the club, in front of a home crowd at Kirkham Park.

Playing in his 14th season in first grade, Neville will join Kevin Thomson as part of the Rams 200 club.

"I'll be a little bit nervous and it'll be a little bit emotional, but it'll be a proud moment," he said.

"I hope to get it out of the way, then I can concentrate on the game. The most important thing is winning the game.

"If we could have made the major semis last season I could have got the 200th out of the way then.

"It's been a bit nerve-racking thinking about it during the off season, so it'll be nice to get it out of the way."

Joining Camden as a junior in 1993, Neville progressed to playing in first grade in 1998.

"We won that comp that year [1998] so it was good and we won again in 2000 and 2002," Neville said.

"That's definitely the highlights of my time with Camden.

"We lost three grand finals in 2003, '04 and '05 — it's a big ask to win four straight."

Apart from playing one season in the Jim Beam Cup with Campbelltown Eagles in 2008, Neville has been associated with the Rams for almost two decades.

Camden coach Mark De Ubago holds him in high regard.

"Paul is a great captain," he said. "It's been a big learning curve for him when he took the reins, he leads by example and knows what it takes to win each game.

"He is a loyal clubman too; to play 200 games for the club is a great honour for him, particularly over the last few years, although we have been successful off the field it's on the field that everyone remembers and he stuck with it."

Unfortunately time has run out for us to secure a playing field in the Campbelltown LGA for this weekend's game vs The Oaks Tigers.
We have transferred our home game to now be played at Sid Sharpe Oval, Oakdale this Sunday.
1st Grade vs The Oaks 2.30pm, Reserve Grade vs The Oaks at 1pm & U/18s vs Macarthur Bulls at 11.30am.

We expect to be in Campbelltown for the Round 6 game vs Camden Rams.

Many thanks to Tom Casey and the Oakdale club for their continued support.

Was not playing at The Oaks this week not an option? Common sense would have you guys swap rounds so that Roos can play 2nd round at least at home....or are The Oaks being unaccomodating, or Oakdale too accomodating??

Very impressive. Did they name a man of the match? A very dominant performance. They are definitely sending a message to the other groups.

Group 16 one of the CRL's poorer groups but team was very impressive and looked focused under new coach Reeves. Group is getting stronger so maybe a fair dinkum challenge to Group 11 or Group 9 could be on this year

It's great that FINALLY commonsense has prevailed and Campbelltown City Kangaroos, Campbelltown Eagles and Macarthur Bulls will be eventually able to play and train at their own home grounds.

I thought that would be the more common sense approach for the game to be swapped with The Oaks, but maybe The Oaks thought it would detract from their fixture with the short notice?
Why would Oakdale be too accomodating? The phone call came through from the group at 7.30pm Thursday night
