Robertson Spuds steamrolled Bargo Bunnies

BY LAUREN WRIGHT

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/general/robertson-spuds-steamrolled-bargo-bunnies/2540846.aspx

Robertson Spuds steamrolled Bargo Bunnies on Sunday, with a convincing 30-10 victory.Spuds captain Doug Tilly said it was an excellent result which surprised even themselves.

"It was great. We kind of surprised ourselves," he said.

"We knew it was going to be hard (but) everything just seemed to click."

"The forwards went forward and the backs kind of tore them apart."

With the Spuds converting just one goal from eight opportunities, Tilly said they had to rely on their ability to get over the line in order to win the game. However, they controlled the ball well and only dropped it twice in the first half.Tilly said Matt Hammond, Matthew Mauger and Pat Pearse all had standout games in what he said was a real team effort.

"I don't think there's anyone in the team who doesn't deserve a mention," he said.

While the Spuds dropped off a bit at the start of the second half, Tilly said he was still pleased with the overall performance. "Hopefully we can just do it again."

They will face first place Macarthur Bulls this weekend and Tilly said it would be a tough battle.

"Keep it out wide and hopefully the forwards can make the yards again and keep our defence tight," he said.

THE OAKS defeated Campbelltown City Kangaroos 30-28 to record their second win of the season in the Group 6 first grade rugby league competition.
Each team scored five tries apiece and it was only a missed conversion which was the difference between the teams after a hard-fought 80 minutes.

Ross Brown's three second-half tries put the Kangaroos only two points adrift with about 10 minutes left to play, but The Oaks' defence stood firm to stop their opponents scoring a winning try.

Too many flare-ups spoiled the second half. It was a stop-start affair for long periods midway through the second half.

The Oaks coach Mark Lowe agreed the pace of the second half was a disrupting influence.

"Our discipline went out of the window in the second half," Lowe said. "When we controlled the ball we got a roll-on.

"We had some good quick passing in the first half. At the break I told them to go out and complete our sets in the second half but they didn't.

"We were lucky to get the two points."

The Oaks try-scorers were Royce Tasker, Rory Vale, Jesse Prasad, Jeremy Carruthers and Dion Mooney. Kangaroos try scorers were Ross Brown (3), David Jackson and Chris Williamson.

Best for The Oaks were Dion Mooney and Jason Sampson.

The Oaks will host Narellan at Dudley Chesham Sportsground on Saturday at 7.30pm.

It will be a huge night of memories, as it is a 20-year reunion of the last The Oaks team to win a premiership.

Picton beat Narellan 36-20, Mittagong beat Camden 24-16 and Thirlmere/Tahmoor beat Oakdale 28-10.

In the next round, The Oaks are at home against Narellan and Picton host Oakdale.

Bundy had a great day, second win of the season a tight 10 -6 win over Bowral. Wonderful feeling to play and win at home in front of a good crowd. Bowral led into the break 6-0,but Bundy levelled and scored again with 6 to go to seal the win with a much improved defensive effort from previous weeks. Big thanks to Bundanoon sponsors, The Central Hotel-Moss Vale, J & J Stonewall constructions, Coopers earthmoving, Turners earthworks, Sylvan Glen resort- Penrose.

I know the oaks won reggies.
But I'm staggered by that first grade score. The oaks must have a different team each week, must be hard for lowey, because consistency is not their strong point

Is Piggy still playing for the Oaks? It would be a long time since he played in any side that got touched up like that.

He was on the field..... you would expect him to run the show but he took a back seat. Not effective at all :(
