Charity clash: Picton president Darren Jones (left) and Campbelltown Eagles player Lale Neemia can't wait for the Charity Cup encounter on Sunday.

PICTON Magpies will take on Campbelltown Eagles in the annual Charity Cup game on Sunday at Waminda Oval, Campbelltown.
The clubs will raise money and awareness for the McGrath Foundation.

This will be the fourth year the two clubs have come together, raising almost $6000 in the past three years.

The McGrath Foundation will be selling stubby holders, key rings and other items on the day.

The trophy will go to the club with the most grade wins on the day.

Eagles ground Lions

IN what has been an up and down season for Mittagong Lions first grade, they suffered another low with a 36-28 to form team East Campbelltown Eagles at home on Sunday.Late in the second half, coach Scott Borg was again knocked out for the second week in a row.

"I think it's a bit disheartening to see our coach for the second week in a row get knocked out," Lions captain Robert Carter said.

The Lions were down 20-12 at halftime before staging a comeback after the break.A try to Matt Thorpe put the Lions two ahead of the Eagles but East Campbelltown hit back with two tries to lead 32-22.Ryan Borg then converted his own try and the Lions trailed 32-28. However they could not cross the line again and found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline when the final whistle blew.

"It was disappointing (especially_ when we jumped out to that lead," Carter said.

"I think what we've got to work on is our discipline. The reason they got back in the game was because we just gave away penalties. I think just about all their tries came off the back of our penalties or mistakes that we made down in their half."

Also with a number of players out due to injury, Carter said it was pleasing to see so many reserve grade players stick their hands up to have a go.

"We didn't have much of a bench to choose from so we pulled up reserve graders who came up and put their heart on their sleeve for us and I think from last week to this week we're still showing a lot of determination."

Carter said despite the g result, there were some positives to come from the match.

"I think we're strong out in the backs when we've got the ball out there and I think Thorpey (Matt Thorpe) to be thrown around to be playing hooker and in the halves and that he shows a lot of ticker for a small bloke."

"We've just got to get some consistency and good discipline."

Hello BW

The oval is in WSDJRL district so i think the WSDJRL should have been consulted prior.

WSDJRL do not own the ground, and it has been sanctioned by NSWRL. So why would West's need to be consulted about a game that has nothing to do with WSDJRL? :dunno:

But don't players, staff & officials who live in the Campbelltown LGA pay rates to the council?

It stands to reason that some of the rates they pay are spent on providing & maintaining those grounds, so surely they should be able to enjoy the use of that ground, especially when no Wests Senior team is playing there?

If uniforms/jerseys clash then it is up to the away club to wear an alternative strip. Eg In 2010 All Saints v Mittagong (both green & gold) - the away club wore the Group 6 rep jerseys.

Oh and jan its great for us players that travelled from all cross campbelltown region to train out in Woop Woop and play home games on other teams grounds to finally get our home grand back so stop and think about the players and staff and everyone that runs our club all the hard work they did to get us home.
