Must have been a shock to the idiot supporter who jumped the fence at Thirlmere yesterday to get involved in a stoush after full time in the 18's. Turned out the ref was a copper and and he arrested the bloke!
Maybe they need to get more police into the ranks of the referees.
I was just reading the Wollondilly Advertiser in the Police Watch section. The clown that ran onto the field at Thirlmere at the end of the U/18's on Saturday was from Tahmoor. He was charged with Common Assault and will appear in Picton Court on the 26th June. What an idiot! Good result

Mt Annan club was penalised so does that mean Thirlmere club will be penalised??? I suppose that will be up to the Senior's Management. Wasn't the President of the Mt Annan club involved in that business at Moss Vale? Not having a dig just don't know all the details about the Mt Annan situation.

Your missing the point, regardless of who starts fights on field its about the spectators that run in and are getting involved in fights as well . I agree, this is where massive brawls can start. If a spectator ran on to the field and got involved against One of my teammates I'm pretty confident the rest of the team would get involved, which in turn incites more violence.

I agree, this is where massive brawls can start. If a spectator ran on to the field and got involved against One of my teammates I'm pretty confident the rest of the team would get involved, which in turn incites more violence. Often the bit of biff on the field settles but when an idiot spectator decides to get involved it just escalates the situation. This is also the case when they run in off the bench or coaching staff get themselves involved. The ref can deal with what's happening on the field most of the time, they can't when these sort of things happen.
I can see in the near future, the Group demanding that clubs hire security guards when they have home games and this is an expense that most clubs can't afford. We need to stop this nonsense of spectators and officials getting physically involved in what's happening on the field before we are forced to add this extra cost to the tight budget most clubs have to operate within.
Also, it's not doing anything for our sport publicity-wize. RL already has a bit of a bad rep - I know this from the number of times I've heard mothers say that they wouldn't let their kids play RL because it's too violent and they'll get hurt. And let's face it, when young kids are involved, mums are the ones who make the decisions about what activities their kids get into. It's a very brave Dad that tries to over rule Mum in these matters.
If clubs want players coming through and bums on seats at their games then this do-do needs to stop.

Maybe if the refs control the game better we wouldnt have this problem. When 21yo kids are doing the centre in G6, there are massive issues in the refs ranks.

Coulndt agree more!!! I must say thats the only issue I have with group 6 little 20yr old refs trying to controll a game when all there doing is being scared to make decisions or won't make the decision cause there scared its all good for u 18s but first grade or Reggie's u have to have someone who will take controll anyone agree cause when we played the oaks with had a guy who didn't have a clue

The association is struggling each week to get enough refs to cover the games last weekend and they had to get Group 7 refs to come up and help out. The ref payments seem pretty good to me - $150.00 for a 1st grade centre & $46.00 for the line - but retaining senior refs seems to be a big problem. They do have young refs coming through and I suppose they have to get experience somehow.
The big question is, "Why don't the older more experienced referees want to continue refereeing?"

$150 a game for a first grade ref is no way near enough, should be minimum $300 for a Sunday for the top game. I know the game only goes for 80 minutes but you are taking most of the day out to do that game. If u pay peanuts u get monkeys!!

Only got to watch the last half of the Camden v C/town game last week but was a disgrace to see the ref check every call with the ref's boss who was running the line.......how embarrassing, if the refs boss is better than the ref out there, then get out there and do it yourself, dont force it on to someone else. The ref deserves HIGHER PAY!!
