The only reason games are called off is if the council closes the grounds. |

Defence wins the day for Campbelltown 06 Jun, 2012 12:00 AM http://www.camdenadvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/defence-wins-the-day-for-campbelltown/2581743.aspx ![]() No way through: Narellan player Jay O'Mullane (in blue) is stopped in his tracks by his Campbelltown Eagles opponents on Sunday. Picture: Sean Cunningham Narellan failed to halt the unbeaten run of the Campbelltown Eagles in the final game of the Group 6 first grade rugby league competition's first round, going down 42-14. The Jets stayed in touch with the Eagles up to the break, but fell off the pace badly in the final 40 minutes. Narellan hit the lead midway through the first half but that was to be the last points they would score due to the determined Eagles defence for the remainder of the game. Eagles' fullback Will Dreves scored the first of his three tries, which all came from kicks, in the fifth minute. The Eagles took a 20-14 lead to the break but it could have been a larger margin if their handling was better on the wet ground. Narellan coach Daryn Fallshaw agreed the game developed into a scrappy affair in the second half. "We were poor in the second half and they were good," Fallshaw said. "We just didn't get a lot of possession in the second half. "They got to our line with penalties so I told them to cut out the penalties in the second half. "They were dangerous, they're a big, well-drilled team and you just can't defend against them all game." Matters were made worse for the Jets when playmaker Ben Baker left the field with an injury about the 20-minute mark in the second half. The situation deteriorated for Narellan when Cameron Graham was sent off for throwing a punch late in the game, but the horse had bolted by then and it had little bearing on the final result. Narellan's tries went to Gavin Wilson (2) and Ben Baker while Will Dreves (3), Ben Weir, Chris Standing, Craig Moustakas, Mason Talalou and Michael Bradstock scored tries for the Eagles. Best for Narellan were Josh Graham and David McDonald |

Bowral back on top with a win over Warragamba BY LAUREN WRIGHT http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/bowral-back-on-top-with-a-win-over-warragamba/2582129.aspx BOWRAL were back to their best on Sunday with a 22-10 win over Warragamba. As always numbers were an issue for Bowral who started with 14 players and finished with 13. "It was a pretty good effort especially travelling to Warragamba and not knowing if we'd have a team," Bowral captain Lee Hayes said. "Everyone had to put up their hand and have a go." Brad Neech crossed the line twice, while Kieran Sandor and Steve Galvin also scored for Bowral, and Hayes said the match showed Bowral's potential. 'The boys attitude, they just never gave up and we had the majority of the ball instead of having to defend for most of the match which we've been doing," he said. "It shows we can win games when we control the ball. It was a good effort right across the park." One of the club's more senior members Peter Campbell stepped up and voted player's player, Hayes said he "showed some of the younger players how it's done". Hayes said the match was made harder with a number of referee's decisions going against them and Hayes himself was sent to the bin for abusing the ref. But with a week off, Hayes said they hoped to have a number of player back from injury for their match against Bargo and build some momentum heading into the back end of the season. "I think it's another game we could really win. we need to beat them to stay in contention for the finals," he said. "We just need the boys to show up to training and get keen again so we can keep winning." |

Roos back in game - without a home ![]() 06 Jun, 2012 12:00 AM http://www.macarthuradvertiser.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/roos-back-in-game-without-a-home/2581919.aspx SEVERAL weeks after the decision to allow Campbelltown City Kangaroos Rugby League Football Club to return to the area and continue playing in the Group 6 competition, the club remains without a home ground. A ban was lifted so they can now continue playing in the Country Rugby League Group 6 competition, but on a ground in the Campbelltown area. Club president Heath Attard said Stromeferry Reserve had potential, but little had been spent and "many promises were and have been broken by council" at that site. Club stalwart Alex Melville called on councillors to help the club's plight. "We would like some civic-minded aldermen to contact the club and help us with our goal of building a really strong, youth-based sporting community for the Campbelltown area," Melville said. But Campbelltown City Council's general manager Paul Tosi said numerous options were made available to the Kangaroos but had been declined. "We offered the stadium (Campbelltown Sports Stadium) but that was declined on the basis of cost and I can understand that," Tosi said. "We made representations for the club to use a ground within UWS but we haven't heard back from them. "For any club to suggest we haven't helped is incorrect and unfair." Tosi said Worrell Park and Milton Park were two other venues which the club could have used. |

It's a weekly battle for us to manage our points. It starts on Wednesday and gets finalised by game day. I'm not sure how a couple of teams are doing it? Maybe Thirlmere should come out in the open with theirs to allay the fears of everyone? I like the Eagles transparency with their points. |
