Western Suburbs joins ICCC rugby league competition http://macarthur-chronicle-campbelltown.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/western-suburbs-joins-iccc-rugby-league-competition/ ![]() WESTERN Suburbs District Junior Rugby League has again had to look beyond home territory for a stronger competition for its senior players. The league announced last Wednesday that nine of its affiliated clubs would compete in the NSW Inter City Combined Competition in 2012. The competition kicks off on Sunday, incorporating 49 teams competing across A grade, two reserve-grade divisions and two under-19 divisions. Wests clubs opting to field senior teams in the competition include Campbelltown Collegians, Campbelltown Warriors, Eagle Vale St Andrews, Ingleburn RSL, Minto Cobras, Liverpool Titans, Liverpool Catholic Club, All Saints and Valley United. The move follows the aborted combined competition with neighbouring Group 6, which lasted two seasons before the organisations went their separate ways again in 2011. WSDJRL deputy chairman Mark Lake said Wests juniors had joined the inter city competition to benefit from competing against a wide variety of teams. “It also gives them an opportunity to play against other teams from other districts within the Sydney metropolitan region, that they have never played against before,” Lake said. He said all the teams were excited about the competition and were looking forward to a successful season. NSW Rugby League has endorsed the Wests clubs to compete in the Inter City Combined Competition. The competition includes teams from Balmain, Canterbury, Eastern Suburbs, South Sydney and St George.

Cup a tribute to women http://liverpool-leader.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/cup-a-tribute-to-women/ ![]() TWO teams trialling for this year’s Western Suburbs District Junior Rugby League competition will do so in support a worthy cause. The upcoming gala day between the Liverpool Titans and the Glenquarie All Stars will also be the inaugural Breast Cancer Cup. Under-6 to under-17 players will trial at Glenquarie’s home ground, Glenfield’s Seddon Park, to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Titans president Darcy Brown said the foundation was chosen in support of women involved in rugby league. “Breast cancer kills many women and everyone is touched by it in some way,” he said. “As rugby league clubs, we want to support women and the important work they do with clubs across the country - every club is affected by breast cancer at some time.” The clubs will pass around a collection tin and donate 10 per cent of the canteen sales. Brown said the cup would be held each year and encouraged residents to come along to the first event. “The Glenquarie All Stars will host the cup this year and we will have it at our home ground next year,” he said. “It’s a great day out for families - I encourage residents to support rugby league and this very worthy cause.” Edited by disco stu, Apr 11 2012, 12:53 PM.

Wests open rugby league account in Inter City Combined Competition http://macarthur-chronicle-campbelltown.whereilive.com.au/sport/story/wests-open-rugby-league-account-in-inter-city-combined-competition/ ![]() Ingleburn RSL v the Warriors in the ICCC A reserve competition. Picture: IAN SVEGOVIC WARRING rugby league divisions were finally laid to rest across the Macarthur region on the weekend. Western Districts Junior Rugby League’s senior teams made a successful debut in the Inter City Combined Competition against teams from St George, Canterbury and Souths. Neighbouring Group 6 teams played round three of their competition with some entertaining and high-scoring results. And the Campbelltown teams that chose to play with Group 6 after the demise of the Wests/Group 6 combined competition have been allowed to return to their homegrounds after being locked out because they played outside the Wests boundaries. Wests deputy chairman Mark Lake welcomed the start of the new competition. ``With 49 teams in this competition, there will be games played in the district every weekend,’’ he said. There were two games in Campbelltown on Sunday. In the local match-up, Ingleburn RSL and Campbelltown Warriors went head-to-head in A Reserve, with honours going to Ingleburn 14-12. In the other game, Minto Cobras overpowered Riverwood Legions 40-10. I |

Prepare for a washed out weekend. ICCC will usually cancel all competition if one of the districts can't field their games. |

The Tiger boys travelling to Cahil Park this week, great results last week and its good to see our guys happy to play in a competition that is at our level. Is playing in the ICCC for good? it's one week in and we are already uncertain about the future with people saying next year we will be in Group 6, what if the guys like this comp, we should have a choice. There will never be a wests seniors comp again so as a club, we should go where we feel is best. |

Group 6 MAY NOT want all clubs, so be prepared for Group 6 Management to be selective. And I think the likes of Eagles and Kangaroos may not want that added competition as well as they have the 'market' on playing in Group 6..... Group 6 clubs in the past have been selective in who they allow to join them, fearful too many new clubs will dilute the pool of quality players. The prolification of 3rd Grade clubs has seen some First Grade clubs question its worth as players who would normally play Reserve Grade are now playing 3rd grade and leaving the Reserve Grade with a shortage of players to cover injuries and absences. |
