Just wanting to know with all the posters on the Group 6 forum whether they could help me out.

I'm a keen reseacher of ex Sydney 1st grader players who ended their playing careers in bush footy and I'm interested in knowing who played in Group 6 - between 1973 to 1983 only - particularly the Campbelltown clubs - city, warriors & collies.

So far, with the help of Warriors78 (cheers mate) have come up with -

Campbelltown Warriors
Col Casey, Ron Fogarty & Genaro Panzarino (all ex-Newtown)
Terry Geary & Wayne Brain (both ex- Penrith)

Campbelltown City
Phil Charlton (ex-Canterbury & 1 game for Newtown)

Also know that Tim Sheens played at City, Rod Jackson (ex-Canterbury & Manly) played at Camden while Tony Herring (ex-Norths & Canterbury) played at either The Oaks or Oakdale. Johnny Greaves (ex- St George & Canterbury) played at City as well.

Can anyone else add to this? Interested to know if Ingleburn & Leumeah who played in Group 6 in the late 70's had any ex Sydney 1st graders.

Also, I was talking to a former Newtown Jets player from the 70's - John Bradstock recently and he told me he played for a Campbelltown club in Group 6 in the late 70's but couldn't recall which one. Does anyone know which one?

Old Magpie Lad, my Dad used to be the G6 journalist between these years as well as being heavily involved at City as a player and official. Group 6 attracted a lot of ex-grade stars who were all very well paid by a lot of cashed up clubs. Group 6 was probably the fifth strongest comp behind Newcastle, Illawarra, Group 8 Canberra and Group 12 Central Coast- as proven by Southern Division being heavily dominated by G6 players when they won the Country Championships in 1980 and 1983- haven't got within a bull's roar since.

From my knowledge, and the research we did last year to press our G6 claims, I know of the following:

City-
1960s- Robert McDonagh Captain- coach Kangaroos 1962-64 ex Eastern Suburbs played in 1960 GF alongside Jack Gibson in the FR

1969-72
Ray Corkery Captain- coach 1969-71 ex St George & Warrington
Rod Smith ex- Parramatta centre
John Walsh, ex- Magpies
Alan Girard
Ron Girard
Barry Norden
Dave Irvine
Rod Berridge
Tom Jordan

1973-76
Johnny Greaves Captain- coach 1973-76 ex Australian International Canterbury and St George
Tony Da' Silva, ex- Penrith
Peter Matson (also captain coached The Oaks), ex- Newtown & Parramatta
Mick Hall, ex- Bulldogs
Steve Dwyer, ex- Bulldogs
Ray Dodd, ex- Bulldogs

1978
Johnny 'Spook' Spencer, Captain- coach 1978 ex Balmain legend, played in the 1969 GF win over Souths
Don Rogers, ex- Magpies
Steve Rigney, ex- Magpies & RLW cartoonist

1980-82
Phil Charlton, ex- Bulldogs frontrower
Bobby Kelly
Darrell Griffin, ex- Penrith halfback
Mark Snuggs, ex- Easts & Newtown pivot
Martin Bullock, ex- Parramatta
Dennis Dobson, ex- Magpies & Bulldogs hooker
Mark Massone, went to Wests in 1983
Tony Herring (captain coached warriors to comp win in 1979 but came to us after not getting $$$)
Digby Murray, went to Parra and played 1st Grade

1983
Tim Sheens, ex- Penrith
Greg Beale, ex- Penrith
Dennis Fricot- ended up at Cronulla in 1984
Alan Hamilton, ex- Easts
Steve Stonham, ex- Parramatta

1984 (Newtown- Campelltown A Grade)
Kerry Hoskins, ex- Newtown

Ingleburn Bulldogs- John Darby (Canterbury Bulldogs)

Collies- Terry Hughes (1st Rothmans Medallist), Arthur Sauverein, Dennis McGarry, Norm Miller (ex- NSW & Balmain hooker), Marshall Rogers (ex- Wests), Warren Griffin (ex- Souths)

Warriors- Tony Herring, Doug Page, Ray Henry plus the others listed

Leumeah struggled through 1972-78? and didn't really have the money to compete.

City were backed by the Leagues Club & Lacks Hotel (Court Tavern), Collies by the Catholic Club and wealthy local Catholic businessmen like the late Daryl Martin and the late Gordon Fetterplace and the Warriors had the RSL club backing them

Rod Jackson captain-coached Camden to comp win in 1978
Peter Langmack captain- coached Bowral for a few years in 70s & 80s, as did Steve Kneen in I think 84-85

Can anyone confirm whether former Western Suburbs haflback Alan Neil (who also played for Easts & St George) played in Group 6 in the late 80's? I recall reading something about him playing for either The Oaks or Oakdale for a very brief time.
