A new year and a new committee. Moss Vale Junior Dragons are on the hunt for new faces in a bid to boost the club' numbers for the 2012 season.

President Matthew Burke said this season they hoped to bring a family atmosphere back to the club and get parents more involved. "We've got a few different things this year. We've got with registration players kits to hand out which is shorts, socks, jumpers, a football, drink bottle and stuff so we're just trying to create a good atmospherefor the kids to come and enjoy footy," he said. "We're building on a family sort of approach and just for all the kids to have a good time." With their main registration day held last Sunday, Burke said a third of the children there were new faces. "We had our main day last Sunday and i think we had just on 60 come through, nearly a third of those were new kids altogether." "We want to encourage as many new families to come along as we can." To get families more involved, Burke said they would hold a number of functions throughout the year. "Possibly a club disco for the kids. We've got club memberships this year so parents can join to be members of the club to help support the kids," he said. "We're just trying to get mums and dads back into it and get the families more involved." Burke said they also planned to hold functions for their members throughout the year and at this stage everything was looking positive for the club. "So far [it's] all pointing in the right direction but a lot of work still to be done." Registration will continue for the junior Dragons at Community Oval, Moss Vale on Wednesday afternoons from 4pm. Contact the club secretary Elaine Angel on 0407 933 566 or email Burke at mattb@matthewburkeelectrical. com.au for further information.

If we get some good weather soon we're going to have the best footy fields we've had in many, many years. ( Victoria Park at Picton may even get to the end of the season without looking like do-do.)

Good luck to Mossy - their new committee has been working very hard - I'm looking forward to getting to some games there.

I'm getting really excited about this season - can't wait for the trial games and then the comp!

THE Southern Highlands Rugby League community continued their joint venture with another come and try day at Loseby Park on Sunday. Not only a registration day for players new and old, ARL development officer Jake Brightwell was on hand to lend the players some advice and run various drills throughout the morning. Representatives from the four clubs said they were all there to help promote the sport and support each other.

"It's a very harmonious relationship between the clubs," Bowral's Peter Howard said. The junior clubs have also been given a boost this season with the expertise of Harvey Howard as coaching coordinator. Howard was a former English international representative and the clubs said it was great to have him on board. Robertson junior Rugby Leauge Club will hold their come and try day this Sunday at the Robertson Showground from 10am until noon.

Beau Scott Visits Picton Magpies

Group 6 Junior's Web Site

Beau Scott with Picton's Secretary Jane Simpson, Head Coach Matt Davies & young Magpies.

Beau Scott - St George Illawarra, Kangaroo & NSW State of Origin player - dropped into his junior club, Picton Magpies on Tuesday, 6th March.

He presented the club with a Digital TV donated by Harvey Norman - Picton is very appreciative of the TV and Beau's continued interest in his old club.

The boys were a bit shy at first, though that seemed to pass once they started to throw the ball around.

Beau will be dropping into training at Victoria Park from time to time to give players a few tips on how to mix it with the best.

Wollondilly Shire Council Community Grants Scheme

Monday, 05 March 2012 14:03

Does your local community group have an idea that will benefit the community? Do you need funding to make this idea happen in your community?

Each year Wollondilly Shire Council provides small one off grants to non profit community groups and organisations within the Wollondilly Shire to:
•assist residents in participating in community events that build a sense of community spirit and connectiveness, or
•help strengthen Wollondilly Shire communities through local small-scale, time limited projects.

Information Sessions – 22 March 10 am and again at 6.30 pm at Council Administration Building.

Community groups are encouraged to attend one of the two Information Sessions to gain a greater insight into Council's Community Grant Scheme, discuss your ideas with Council staff and hear about other avenues of funding for your project or event.

Guidelines providing full details and eligibility under the Community Grants Scheme can be obtained from Council Staff, along with current Planning documents that provide information on local community needs and project ideas.

Next Funding Round – opens 2 April 2012 and closes on the 30 April 2012

In 2012 due to Council Elections in September, applications will be received during April and after processing and assessment by all Councillors, successful applications will be announced in late July and funds made available in August.

For more information or assistance please contact Council's Community Project Officer, Bob Lester on 4677 8261 or bob.lester@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au

Question for a few of you guys afilliated with the juniors...

My young bloke has signed up to play for the Roosters this year...

We live in Bargo.. Im hearing louder and louder whispers that Bargo will be looking at putting together juniors for next season...

If they do get juniors together, what would be the stipulation about my young bloke having to play for Bargo??

As much as it would be alot easier for us, I dont think it would be right in that he be forced to move clubs because a club closer to home starts up...

If he makes friends and gets along well with his team-mates at the Roosters, the last thing i would want to see is him forced to go to Bargo because of the boundaries...

Bob Hall honoured

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/other/bob-hall-honoured/2490095.aspx

THE Southern Highlands Rugby League Community will hold a trial day this Sunday, with the inaugural Bob Hall Shield up for grabs. The day will kick off at 8am at Community Oval, Moss Vale and features teams from all four junior clubs in the area. There will also be relays throughout the day as under-7s pass the ball along to under-8 teammates and on to under-9 teammates and so on from each club

Country Rugby League's Stephen Hazleton said it was an opportunity for teams to get some game time before the season starts and also a great way to recognise hall's contribution to rugby league in the Southern Highlands.

"It's a great way to honour his work and promote rugby league in the Southern Highlands area," he said.

Bob Hall has been involved with rugby league for over 20 years in the area and has been an integral part of the Mittagong Lion's rebuilding phase over the past couple of seasons.

Hall is passionately dedicated to the club, helping out both seniors and juniors. He sells raffle tickets at the matches and will train the Lions under-16A team this season.

Mittagong's senior secretary Robyn Harris said Hall's contribution to the game was simply "amazing"

"He just does everything," she said.

"He's so approachable. he's a great mentor for everyone in the club [and] he has the respect of all the players."

"What he's done for our seniors over the last few years was amazing. Mittagong wouldn't be what Mittagong is today without Bob."

With four senior teams this year, first grade, reserves and two under-18 sides, Harris said Hall has been a large part of the club's growth.

"Bob can take a lot of credit for that. He inspires the boys and Bob really is the driving force behind that."

Hall has also been involved with Group 6 representative teams and is a life member of both Mittagong and Group 6.

"It's well deserved. he doesn't do it for the recognition. He does it for the love of the game and the kids," Harris said.

"He knows the names of all the kids, it's amazing."

"The kids just respect him, whatever Bob says goes and even the seniors respect that."

Camden Juniors are holding a fundraising day at Kirkham Park on Saturday 31st March when they trial against Narellan. This has been organised to lend a helping hand to Gundagai Adelong JRLFC who lost the majority of their playing, training & canteen equipment in the recent floods.

The Group 9 club has been left with some footballs, cones, a pie warmer & and urn - a terrible situation to be in at the start of a new footy season. While the club has had some small donations they will need a lot more to get back up and running.

Camden will be asking for a gold coin donation from people attending the trial game and Narellan are also supporting the fundraiser. All money collected will be sent to the Gundagai Adelong club to allow them to replace their much needed equipment and get their players back onto the field for the 2012 season.

Even though finances are tight at the moment, it would be great if everyone could put their hand in their pockets to support this good cause. If you can help out with equipment or a donation please contact Camden's Secretary Kylie Willis on 0438 464 166 or email her Camden JRLFC camdenjrlfc@gmail.com
