Group 6 Junior's

Spotlight On....

Stuart Flanagan

Group 6 Junior's web site

Posted Image

Spotlight on Stuart Flanagan, formerer NRL player (Canberra Raiders, Wests Tigers, Crunulla Sharks), current Oakdale Workers player & (more importantly), trainer with the Narellan Jets U/14A's.

Stuart Flanagan (born 5 January 1987 in Cooma, NSW, Australia) is a professional rugby league footballer who played for the Cronulla Sharks in the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) competition. He primarily plays hooker.

In 2006, Flanagan was selected to represent New South Wales under-19s as well as the Junior Kangaroos.

Flanagan also had representative honours in 2007 and 2008 when he was selected as the Hooker in the NSW Residents against Queensland.

In April 2008, Flanagan signed a three-year contract with the Canberra Raiders from the 2009 season.

To this point, Flanagan had represented the Wests Tigers, but had found first grade opportunities hard to come by.

He signed a 1 year deal with the Cronulla Sharks for 2010.

Flanagan re-signed with the Sharks for a further year taking him to the end of the 2011 season.

2012 Stuart plays for the Oakdale Workers.

Stuart is a Trainer with the Jets U14As.

Sportsmanship in Action - Follow up.

Group 6 Junior's web site

Camden Juniors held afundraising day at Kirkham Park on Saturday 31st March when they trialled against Narellan. This was organised to lend a helping hand to Gundagai Adelong JRLFC who lost the majority of their playing, training & canteen equipment in the recent floods.

The Group 9 club has been left with some footballs, cones, a pie warmer & and urn - a terrible situation to be in at the start of a new footy season. While the club has had some small donations they will need a lot more to get back up and running.

Follow up

The day at Camden was a great success with Narellan Jets winning the Ken Wisby Shield for 2012. Camden Junior's Secretary, Kylie Willis commended all players for the good sportsmanship displayed through out the day.

More importantly, the day raised just over $1,100.00 to be donated to the Gundagai-Adelong JRLFC - a great achievement which showed the generosity of both Camden & Narellan clubs. Camden will also be donating a number of tackling bags.

Well done to all involved!!

Cannon Ball Tackle

Posted Image
NSWRL Academy

The NSWRL wish to remind all Junior League’s and Referee’s Association of the paramount importance of player safety during games. All Leagues would be aware the League issued a statement on 5 July 2011 regarding the “cannonball’ tackle.

The NSWRL supports this edict thus ensuring that Referee’s have the same interpretation of the “cannonball tackle” at all levels of the Game.

As a result the following will apply immediately:

Referees are asked to be more vigilant on their held call when an attacking player is being held up by a defender/s in an upright position and he is deemed to be in a vulnerable position.

If a player offloads the ball at the same time as the referee calls held, the football will be returned to him and he will be asked to play the ball on the mark where held was called by the referee. (This is an interpretation change, not a rule change

If in the opinion of the referee a player forcefully spears his body at an opponent’s leg/s in a “Dangerous” manner he will be penalised by the referee.

- A player may face further action by the Local League Judiciary if he forcefully spears his body in a “Dangerous” manner at an opponent’s leg/s whilst an opponent is deemed to be in a vulnerable position (being held in a tackle by other defending players)

“Dangerous” in circumstances detailed above is defined as contact that involved an unacceptable risk of injury to the opposing player.

The U/8's Wests Leagues Chairman's Gala Day was hosted by Robertson club today. It was a long cold day but some great footy played by the U/8's teams in Group 6. The day kicked off at 8.30am with the Final between Warragamba & Camden being played at 5.30pm. Warragamba won the day but all teams played their backsides off.

Robbo did a great job, with limited volunteers, hosting the day. And Tony Norton from Wests Leagues Campbelltown was there from beginning to end. Tony is always in attendance at this event and the Group is very appreciative of the interest he takes in their junior footy. Sometimes the representative of a sponsor will turn up for the Presentations only but Tony is always there for the full day and is very interested in all games played.

Young Dragons smoke opposition

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/news/local/sport/rugby-league/young-dragons-smoke-opposition/2552960.aspx?storypage=0

IT was another weekend of travel for Moss Vale's junior Dragons, but the boys stepped and put in some excellent performances.
Under-7s coach Horace Smythe took his little dragons up north to Mt Annan.

The whole team enjoyed their journey and the game of football.

Leading the boys up the middle was young Johno Rowe who ran all day while tackling machine Kemp Seville caught all who ran in his direction.

The under-10cs were ruthless in their 58-6 victory over Thilmere.

Caleb Te Ua showed his team the way, Jacob Tamehana tackled all that came his way allowing Ethan Hawke to talk the talk and walk the walk with Joshua Truscott and Isacc Douglas in support.

The under-11Bs travelled to Thirlmere to take on last year's premiers and came away with the two points after a 28-18 win.

Coach Matt Burke said it was a victory well fought for and deserved.

"The boys enjoyed good field position for most of the game thanks to some barnstorming running from Jayden Grech and Jack Burke then Duncan Stone in the backs was finishing it off well," he said.

"Kam Pull was outstanding in defence."

Under-12As travelled to Picton to face a determined Picton side and claimed the two points in a hard fought battle to finish victors 12-6.

It was a match where defence won them the game.

Captain Jacob Hale Muller lead a determined side on the field with forwards Mason Hurst and Jordan Penfold stepping up to the plate and helping William Angel and Darren Grech smashing all that came their way.

Backs Cameron Marmont pulling off hat-trick of tries and Zac Keith and Bobby Roach quelled a strong picton revival in the second half.

The under-13Bs dominated Thirlmere in their 50-0 win.

Lachlan Harris and Blake Holm ran riot over the Roosters opening up the way for Darcy Cotton to score three tries.

Matty St Clair and Will Smythe tackled all day covering the game well.

Moss Vale also had a convincing 32-0 win in the under-14As over Picton.

Defence was the standout element of the day on the field with all players using their shoulders and also finally realising that tackling round the legs does work.

New combinations still need a touch of work but with a stack of improvement this team coululd go all the way this year.

Eli Pearsall, Luke Osbourne and Tom Angel were unrelenting leading from the front

The under-16Bs just edged out a 16-12 win over Thirlmere in a fierce battle.

Moss Vale played very well for most part and controlled their sets.

An injury late in the second half to Jason Delemont upset their rhythm which allowed Thirlmere to cross the line twice.

Brock Francis and Mitch Weiss were dangerous all day with Francis setting up the match winning try.

Day of state duty for the under 16s

BY SEAN CUNNINGHAM

23 May, 2012 12:00 AM

Wollondilly Advertiser

Posted Image

Making his mark: Camden Rugby league junior Mark McCormack will play in the under-16 equivalent of State of Origin. Picture: Jonathan Ng

TEENAGE rugby league player Mark McCormack has been named in the NSW under-16s team that will play Queensland at Docklands in Melbourne tonight before this year's opening State of Origin game.
Mark has honed his skills since he started as a junior in Camden's under-8s team.

Progressing through the ranks, the 15-year-old now plays for the Rams' under 16s.

The Menangle teen, who plays for Western Suburbs Magpies, was the only player from his Harold Matthews team to be selected.

Mark, a year 10 St Gregory's College student, will don the Blues jersey in the under-16 State of Origin equivalent tonight.

The Menangle boy joined the team on Saturday for a medical and a training session at the NSWRL Academy at the Narrabeen Academy of Sport, before heading to Melbourne with the team on Monday to prepare for the biggest rugby league game of his short career.

His inclusion in the team is still sinking in.

"I'm really excited," Mark told the Advertiser before heading to Melbourne.

"I really can't believe I was picked.

"I have been very lucky to have great people around me — coaches, family, etc."

Naturally, Mark is daunted by the occasion which faces him but hopes to take things in his stride.

Putting his skills on display during a big-game atmosphere is forefront in his thoughts as Mark will be given the chance to impress footy fans and NRL clubs, which could view him as a potential player for the future.

"I'm very nervous," Mark said.

"But I have to stay focused.

I haven't thought about making a name for myself too much, but I know there will be a lot of important people watching."

Although Mark's preferred position is lock, he will just be happy to be part of the team that runs on to the field in front of an expected huge crowd.
