Gear for PNG

Posted Image

Group 6 Junior's Web Site

Round 14 (Saturday, 4th August) will be Group 6 Junior's Gear for Papua New Guinea Round.

The kids in PNG love their footy as much as we do but they don't have access to the gear that we have available to us. The majority of us get a new pair of footy boots each season usually because our feet have grown but the kids in PNG may never own a pair of boots. Our outgrown gear would be really appreciated by them.

So we have decided to collect any unwanted footy gear that you may have and send it up to the kids in PNG.

Have a look in your cupboards, do you have gear (boots/shoulder pads/headgear/etc) that you no longer use? Please consider passing it on to our fellow footy players in PNG.

Collection will be held at the following Round 14 grounds:

  • Narellan
  • Camden
  • Thirlmere
  • The Oaks
  • Bowral

Solid weekend for junior Dragons

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/145755/solid-weekend-for-junior-dragons/?cs=264

IT was another tough weekend for the Moss Vale juniors, but thanks to some good efforts from the young Dragons, most teams came out on top.

The under-6s travelled north to face Picton in an enjoyable game of football.Tenacious up front defence and attack from the whole team allowed Jessie Jones to shine in running and Charlie Woolfrey and Jayden O'Maley be noticed in tackling opening the way for Brody Martin to the try line.Coach Luke Hannon said well done to the whole team for enjoying the game as a team.

The under-8s also travelled to Picton to meet the Magpies in a very entertaining game of football, leaving a smile on all players' faces.

Will McGuiness was all hands on deck and led the team forward which allowed Jacob Simpson, Michell Battilco and Cooper Bourke to open their assault on an equally determined Picton side .

Moss Vale under-10s travelled down to Robertson to face Mittagong in a classic neighbourly battle.

In a hard fought battle both teams went try for try and it took the whole team to withstand the Lions onslaught from all angles.

Jack Webb and his boys shone with a four try haul.

Young Jacob Temahana scored a try and a hat-trick went to the bulldozer Adam Moule who ran one in from 40 metres out, followed by a try each to Lane Crimmins and Keith Cowden.

The team walked away with a 42-32 victory but the score has been disputed by Mittagong and the registrar of game which will be protested by Moss Vale and the under-10 supporters.

The under-11s also went to Robertson to face a determined side of footballers from Mt Annan who never gave up.

All day Mt Annan faced an unmerciful assault from a Dragons team that wanted to repay the damage done to them when they last met the Knights.

With a good structured game of football the boys were able to beat the Knights and also the cold Robertson weather.

Barnstorming runs by young Jack Bourke and Jacob Askew opened up tries with a hat-trick to Jake Whittington and a try apiece to Jayden Greech, Cam Moule, Duncan Stone Sam Evans and a length of field try run by Angus Dillon.

Coach Matt Burke said he was impressed with his team's overall display and awarded Jacob Askew player of the day.

Moss Vale under-13s also braved the winter cold at Robertson to face the the boys from Appin in a game where the Dragons turned up as a team and won an enjoyable game of football.

Their structure was strong and defence was solid across the park resulting in a solid victory.

Coach Mick Sutton gave player of the day to Bryce White and said the whole team deserved a mention for playing a great game of football and special thanks to his coaching staff.

The under-14s travelled to Picton to face off against Narellan.

With an unnecessary error rate the Dragons were lucky to escape with a 12-4 win in hard fought battle made harder by dropped ball and dumb penalties.

As a result of the mistakes Moss Vale were on the back foot trying to go forward but the boys showed a lot of guts and snatched a much needed win.

Coach Steve Fairbairn said Tom Angle, Lachlan MaClean and Ryan Frost were standout players on the day.

Brown's efforts rewarded

SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS NEWS
Aug. 10, 2012, midnight

Posted Image

MITTAGONG junior Patrick Brown was awarded the AAMI/Country Rugby League player and club of the week award last week.
He won a $250 Harvey Norman gift voucher for himself and a $1000 grant for the Mittagong club.

AAMI Sponsorship Manager John Bennetts said the program, which has been issuing grants to football clubs in regional NSW for nine years, supports the code at a grassroots level which is a great opportunity to inspire and encourage up and coming players.

"AAMI is proud of our partnership with the CRL. Over the last nine years we have acknowledged some fantastic players who are brilliant representatives not only for their teams and clubs, but are strong role models for the code. We are thrilled to be able to reward these players for showing dedication to their game, their club and their community."

Mittagong juniors club secretary David Lewis praised Brown's leadership skills.

"Patrick is an all round good kid. He consistently works hard on the field and he finds the time to help train younger players and pass on the skills he's learnt," he said.

"It's not just on the field that Patrick shows dedication to his club. He is at our home games from early in the morning to late in the afternoon assisting the committee in fundraising efforts, scoring, ball boy duties and the general running of the club."

"Mittagong Juniors maintains its focus on teamwork and skills-based training rather than a 'win-at-all-costs' attitude. I'm proud to be involved in this club and contribute to the development of kids like Patrick."

Every Sunday until September 2, AAMI is recognising the exceptional contributions of a Country Rugby Lleague player.

CRL chief executive officer, Terry Quinn said that over the years winning clubs have put the money to great use, by putting it toward items like facilities upgrades or purchasing jerseys.

"This grant of $1000 is a fantastic boost to clubs fundraising efforts, and can help make sure they have new equipment or uniforms," he said.

"Apart from the money, this program also acknowledges those players who have not only achieved great things individually, but who have worked for the benefit of their clubs. We strongly encourage everyone to get involved."

Entry details for the AAMI/CRL Player and Club of the Week competition are online at www.CRLNSW.com.au and winners will be announced each Sunday on 2GB during the Ray Hadley Continuous Call program.

Dragons fired up for finals

http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/223449/dragons-fired-up-for-finals/?cs=264

MOSS VALE Dragons wrapped a successful season on Saturday and will now prepare for finals football.

The under-6 Dragons had a very challenging year this year with most of the squad playing for the first time.

As a result some players picked up the rules of the game quicker than others.

Also playing very early in the mornings during the winter months was also very demanding on not only the players but the parents as well who braved the cold the support their little ones.

The team performed reasonably well during the year but almost every game played short due to limited numbers to begin with sickness , the weather and players unavailable to play.

With these factors the team had some inconsistent games but at the end of the day the main thing was they enjoyed the game.

Special mention to Brody Martin who had a great season but will be missed as he is moving up to under-7s next year as is Jayden Omaley who topped the team's try scoring list and Charlie Woolfrey who is a forward in the making with some bustling runs all year.

First timers Jesse Jones ,Tyler Hannon, Jayden Smith, Zydan Smith and Bella Seville all had standout performances in various games and punched above their weight against some bigger players from other sides.

The under-7s had a good hard year of football with everyone playing well and having a good time along the way.

Coach Horace Smythe thanked Holly Crimmins, Curtis Boese, Harrison Piercy, Noah Graham, Johno Rowe, Kemp Seville, Josh Whittington and Jai Keith for playing all year.

Smythe also thanked the parents and supporters who came out and supported the Dragons every Saturday.

Coach Peter McGuiness took the under-8s this year and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to coach the boys.

He said at times you could spend a whole game going mental watching them play and then in one great movement you were out of your seat cheering them on with a smile.

He likened it to watching a good side like the West Tigers play.

Coach Shayne Cummins took the under-9 boys through their last year in mini football in preparation for mod football next year.

Cummins said fun was had by all involved resulting in an enjoyable year of football.

He said the team was more or less ready for competition football and this year's preparation was good.

In the under-10s, coach Jack Webb thanked all involved for their participation and assistance in the grooming of a group of young boys from mini to mod football.

The boys started the season without a coach and won a number of matches.

Due to their big wins they were moved up a division which was not easy but full credit went to the boys for their efforts each week.

The team only just missed out on a semi-finals position.

In a big year for the under-11 boys, they took out the minor premiership for the B division and top of the ladder with 20 points.

Coach Matt Burke said he was extremely pleased with the boys' efforts who played 15 games with eight of them hard fought victories.

The boys face off against Mt Annan August 25 at Mittagong.

Coach Alex Petersen said after winning the B division last year the under-12 boys got promoted to the A division a harder stronger comp.

The boys held their own and never gave up.

Even though they didn't make the semis they left their mark on a very strong A division.

Petersen thanked James McGrath, William Angel, Cameron Marmont, Bobby Roach, Matty Lynch, Mick Babula, Zac Keith, Mitchell Pickup, Darren Greech, Patty Marshall, Jed McGuiness, Jordan Penfold, Jack Wright, Nick Karmachiel and Mason Tavete for their efforts this year.

He also thanked team manger Emily Hackett and assistant trainers Isaiah Petersen and Ben Murchie.

The under-13Bs won 11 of their 12 matches and coach Michael Sutton congratulated his team on taking out the minor premiership.

They will face Mittagong at Mittagong on August 25 and Sutton also thanked Horace Smythe and Boyd Thurgate for their assistance throughout the year.

In the under-14As, Steve Fairbairn steered his team to third spot on the competition ladder.

The boys had a hard season but their commitment kept them in in every match.

They will face Narellan at Camden on September 1.

Under-16s' coach Andrew Bowie had a strong message for his boys at the start of the season.

Stay committed and you could win the comp this year.

The boys made life hard for themselves and Bowie said the attitude they finished with was one they needed to maintain.

Moss Vale finished outright second and meet Camden at Mittagong on August 25.

Bowie thanked Sharon Moore, Linda Stone and Brian Dickson for their held throughout the season.

Finals - 8th & 9th September 2012

Narellan Sportsground

Please remember....

  • Arrive at least an hour before your game is due to start.

  • Get your team to sign on BEFORE you go and warm up.

  • Make sure all players' FINGERNAILS are short BEFORE they are checked by the referee during sign on - you are wasting your own warm-up time if the referee decides that they need cutting during the studs & nails check.

  • Once you leave the changeroom to sign on and warm up don't go back to the change room - this applies to after your game as well.

  • There is "Time-out" for injuries ONLY.

  • Follow the directions of the GROUND MANAGERS. If you can't behave properly you will be asked to leave the ground.

  • Don't embarass, yourself, your club and especially your son by ranting, raving and abusive behaviour.

Junior Sports Star: Ethan Debono of Belimbla Park
RUGBY LEAGUE
MACARTHUR CHRONICLE
3 SEP 12 @ 03:56PM BY VERA BERTOLA

Posted Image
Ethan Debono is an avid cricketer and rugby league player.

CRICKET or rugby league? Young Macarthur Chronicle Junior Sports Star nominee Ethan Debono is in the envious position of being good at both sports.

Fortunately, at this stage in his youthful career, he can balance both as they play at opposite ends of the year.

The 10-year-old, of Belimbla Park, is wrapping up another successful rugby league season at both club and school levels.

Dad David explained Ethan was one of his under-10A Camden Rams' leading tryscorers this season and had also been an integral player at half-back for St Paul's Catholic Primary School's league team.

The school team enjoyed a terrific competition and progressed through to the state titles.

Ethan also excels with a cricket bat and has made great inroads into the sport in the two years he has played the game.

Mr Debono explained Ethan was first selected on the Camden District Cricket Association's under-10 Foster Shield team two seasons ago and was one of the youngest in the side. Last season he captained the Shield team.

On the domestic front, he was a standout for his under-10 Camden Cricket Club team. The youngster won the club's Bob Byrne Shield for the Player of the Year in Modified Cricket.

A highlight of the season was taking a hat-trick for his Camden team.

Rebel Sports sponsors the Junior Sports Star. South West Sydney Academy of Sport is the local sponsor.

To nominate a young sportsperson, fill out the form on page 127 or visit our website macarthurchronicle.com.au.

Spuddies farewell legend Save
SOUTHERN HIGHLAND NEWS

Junior Spuddies wait to cheer Nathan Hindmarsh on to the field at ANZ. Photo supplied

LAST Sunday, 22 of the Robertson Junior Spuddies had the privilege to travel to ANZ Stadium and form a guard of honour on the field to farewell local rugby league legend Nathan Hindmarsh in his final game.

Hindmarsh has inspired many of the young players at Robertson, and he attended a hands-on training session with the Spuddies earlier in the season.

They were all very proud to be representing their club on a such a large stage and they got to see many of their favourite players from the Parramatta Eels and St George-Illawarra Dragons.

"It's great to see the enthusiasm of the kids in the presence of many of their heroes," under-8s coach Warwick Hill said.

There have been some promising young players in the Robertson club and having the chance to experience the excitement on the field in front of the biggest crowd of the season was certainly something they treasured.
