http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/1270569/tigers-back-in-highlands/?cs=264 THE West Tigers will be back in the Highlands on Sunday to promote rugby league and a very important message.
With most of the first grade stars available, the Tigers will hold a free skills clinic for all current and prospective players.
NRL game development officer Jake Brightwell said the clinics, which would be run by West Tigers players, would teach players how to pass, tackle and score tries.
He said 300 children were expected at Mittagong Sportsground on Sunday afternoon after last year's clinic was such a success.
"We had over 300 last year so I hope we can get more. It's also a good chance for clubs to pick up extra registrations," he said.
The clinic which starts at 4pm also includes a free barbecue, giveaways and an inflatable activity centre.
Each of the junior Highlands clubs will have a registration table set up at the ground.
The Tigers will then visit 12 schools in the region on Monday to promote not only the game but an anti-bullying message.
"Anti-bullying is a really important message that the NRL is trying to put into schools and the community. It comes at a time when bullying is pretty big," Brightwell said.
This is all part of Rugby League's 12th annual Community Carnival in which players will deliver anti-bullying pens, water bottles, bags, pencil cases, wrist band and player cards during their visit.
Not just for players, a coaching clinic will be held at Community Oval on Monday night with the West Tigers coaching staff for all coaches starting at 6pm.
Contact Jake Brightwell on 0448 890 017 or email jbrightwell@nrl.com.au for further information.

I was at the meeting where there application got voted against. they did say that they would appeal. im not sure where that is at Bargo's appeal was denied but they were given the chance to show that they might be able to attract youngsters who had not played footy before.
They are not affiliated & can't register any players BUT they can ask for expressions of interest. They have very strict conditions placed upon them in seeking these expressions of interest but unfortunately, seem to think they now have permission to do anything they please. Very typical of certain people/family involved in their senior club.
They are advertising registration but they actually can't register anyone.

"Our under 7's have to play in a gala day at Moss Vale but the rest of our club is playing at Warragamba - it's unfair - we want to forfeit!."

This is a very tricky!!
Any word on how Oran Park is shaping?? Will they take the field in 2013??

They should not be allowed to register current players, instead they should be able to start on the ground floor. Under 7s, and see if they can progress from there. If they can't get the numbers then so be, but if there are 10 genuine players from the area, then they should be allowed to play for their local team. Why make it difficult for them and dictate terms to them? But by rights they should be allocated a boundary, much like us at Oakdale.

Oran Park are being very sensible. They hope to have a mini team this year and are happy to start at the bottom and build their club. They have an arrangement with Narellan that they will play at Narellan if they get a team but if they don't get enough players they will register those they have as Oran Park players but they will combine with Narellan to form a team. That way, if they get more players next year there will be no need for clearances. This is a great approach to building a club in the future and a pat on the back for Narellan who are helping them.
Sadly, those involved in Bargo are not so interested in actually building a club but more interested in damaging other clubs in the area - Thirlmere & Picton. It's personal & it's spiteful.

If that's the case it's a do-do go. They are using their position and influence on the senior's management committee to attack junior clubs.

Recruitment drive: Many local children could benefit from a new junior rugby league recruitment program. A young Narellan Jets rugby league player looks to be enjoying his time on the field during a Group 6 junior game. Picture: Sean Cunningham
RUGBY league administrators have launched www.playrugbyleague.com, a program to increase junior player numbers in every local junior rugby league club throughout Australia.
NRL league integration and game development general manager Andrew Hill said the program aimed to provide "the best possible experience for every child".
"The junior leagues are where our elite players begin their careers, where so many of our fans come from and where our children and their families can get out and have fun every weekend," he said.
Children can start playing competitive rugby league from six years old.
Junior teams typically range from under-7s to under-18s.
