On Saturday 23rd March Group 6 Junior's will be holding the 2013 Wests Leagues Chairman's Cup U/8's Gala Day at Victoria Park, Picton.

This is a great annual event that has been running for a number of years and gives our U/8's mini teams their only chance to play competitive footy.

This year the Group will be running 4 fields with 19 (possibly 20) teams competing.

As always Tony Norton will be there to support the boys and make the presentations. Group 6 Junior's really appreciate West Leagues Campbelltown & Tony's continued interest and support.

Group 6 U/16's V Canberra Raiders

Posted Image

Our U/16's Rep Squad played Canberra Raiders today @ Moss Vale.

At the start of the game it looked like the Raiders were going to out class us, putting on some easy tries but our boys lifted their game and showed the Canberra boys just what they were made of.

On the final bell the Raiders had scored 6 tries to our 4 - BUT our boys played well and kept the opposition on their toes.

Well done guys!

Warragamba Does it Again!

Warragamba White won the 2013 Wests Leagues Chairman's Cup U/8 Gala Day at Picton in a tough battle against Thirlmere-Tahmoor Maroon. On the hooter the final score was Warragamba 24 - Thirlmere-Tahmoor 12.

It was a great day at Victoria Park, Picton for our annual Chairman's Cup. Tony Norton from West Leagues Campbelltown was in attendance as usual, keeping a close eye on all the games. While there can only be one winner we saw some outstanding performances from teams and individuals.

Thank you to Picton Juniors for putting on a great day and having 4 fields on the go helped the smooth running of the event.

Thank you to Tony Norton & Wests Leagues Campbelltown for their continue support and sponsorship.

Please remember to SUPPORT THE CLUB THAT SUPPORTS US!

Memory Makers Videos filmed all games and you can order a DVD containing all your teams games during the day by contacting Ray Howlitt on 0409 395 967.

The ladies from Little Legends were also very snap happy during the day. You can view the photos they took on their web site - click on the link below (give them a few days to process and upload them).

Dragons rewarded for hard work

By Lauren Wright
April 1, 2013, midnight
http://www.southernhighlandnews.com.au/story/1399392/dragons-rewarded-for-hard-work/?cs=264

AFTER Moss VALE Dragon's had one of the club's most successful seasons last year, four of their players were selected for West Tiger representative teams during the off season.

Bryce White was selected in the under-14 and Lachlan MacLean the under-15 West Tigers development squads.

They both trained up in Campbelltown to further develop their skills and played trial matches against other NRL development squads.

Tom Angel and Ray Stone both made Harold Matthews teams.

Stone has captained the Western Suburbs team, which has remained undefeated in the competition and will play in the semi-finals coming up soon.

He plays in the second row and was part of Moss vale under-16 premiership side in 2012.

White was also part of a premiership winning side last year with the under-13s while Angel and MacLean were in the under-14s who were knocked out in the finals.

Angel plays in the front row for South West Academy of Sport made up of West Tigers and Bulldogs who have yet to win a match.

The four boys were selected in November last year and have been training and playing trial matches all throughout the off season.

Both Angel and Stone played in the Combined Independent School's state under-15 team which competed at Australian Championships in Darwin and hope to be selected again this year.

Dragons junior president Matthew Burke said it was a great achievement for the four players and a fitting reward for all their hard work.

"The club's extremely proud of their efforts. It's pretty inspirational to these young kids as well. That's what they're sort of aspiring to."

"It's a just reward for all the hard work they've been putting in over the years."

Is it true that the chairmans cup maybe up for review for next season by the group 6 jrl after some bad behaviour by some parents and team officials this year ? The idea of minis is about teaching core skills and making it fun and enjoyable, but when you put the competitive element into a match where scores & results are kept even if its for a one of competition like the chairmans cup, means some people are going to take it seriously and push harder for a result.

Im not sure of the origins of the chairmans cup and why it applies to u/8s but a competition like the chairmans cup would be better applied to say the u9s competition possibly at years end so they are ready & prepared for competition when they progress to u/10s, thoughts anyone??

Been told that it has been canned for next season...

Apparently there was a bit of drama at this years event and in one case almost fisticuffs..

Personally i think its very dissapointing that it has been canned so quickly, Yes incidents like this are going to happen but rather then punish the majority, punish the troublemakers.. Parents who act out should be suspended, and any clubs found to be involved be fined and suspended also.

The majority of people on the day were great and enjoyed the day in the spirit in which its meant, and now all those in future are to be punished..

The Group 6 U/16's Rep side made the trip to Moruya over the weekend to compete in the Greater Southern Community Carnival. On Saturday they went down to Illawarra in pretty terrible conditions. They rallied on Sunday to defeat Group 7 in the Plate final.
