There has been an idea floated that we should look at building a Magpie memorial at Campbelltown Sports Stadium to celebrate the Magpies 25 years in the region.

A walk of fame of local players who pulled on the Black and White and a statue or plaque have been suggested.

As part of this push, the Macarthur Chronicle wants Magpie fans in their jerseys (Magpies or Wests Tigers) for a photo shoot at the Stadium this Saturday at 9am.

So if you are keen it would be great if you can turn up.

I know its very short notice but the shoot has been changed to this morning - 9am not tomorrow due to WT and I believe Wests junior reps training at the stadium this morning.

Sorry about the late change of notice, even I wasn't informed of it until after the shoot.

The picture they did get however was a good one.

Funny how THOSE training shirts reflect far more Wests than Balmain...

What happened to this idea?

I hope it wasn't just a fly by night idea to shut us up around the time of our Rally.

Judging from recent experience I reckon there could be one M.Luibinkuis on that committee!

I reckon if it isnt taken on by Wests Board, maybe us supporters could organise this after we win our demands for keeping a senior team for the rest on eternity!

A WALL of fame celebrating the Western Suburbs Magpies is just one of the ideas suggested as the rugby league club gets set to celebrate 25 years in the Macarthur region.

The club is seeking ideas on how to mark the anniversary milestone.

Other ideas so far have included a mural depicting the Magpies’ history and merger with Balmain to form the joint venture club Wests Tigers, a past and present players’ hall of honour and a magpie statue.

Magpies marketing and operations manager Daniel Watson Hayes welcomed the ideas. He said he particularly liked the suggestion of a wall of fame.

“They all have a lot of merit, but a wall of fame or plaque at the stadium would go down particularly well,” he said. “I like the idea of photos of former player greats lining the tunnel - similar to ANZ Stadium.

“How inspiring would that be for players as they run out on to the field?”

Watson Hayes said it would be fitting to honour the Magpies, particularly the teams of the 1990s whom he believed were the cornerstone of the club’s success of the modern era. “I think about the talent of the McGuinness brothers, John Skandalis, Paul Langmack . . . that’s what we should be tapping into,” he said.

Campbelltown Council general manager Paul Tosi said he would welcome approaches from the Magpies to discuss the issue.
