The Western Suburbs Magpies suffered their most humiliating and demoralising defeat in the club's history today going down to arch rivals, Balmain/Ryde-Eastwood to the tune of 88-16.

The side known these days by its acronym, BRET totally toyed with their opponents today with five-eighth Dane Chisholm causing havoc every time he touched the ball and finished with four tries and eight goals from as many attempts for a personal haul of 32 points whilst Kurtis Rowe finished with a double.

The rout started at the third minute mark on the back of a penalty when Marc Russell held up a pass before finding Shaun Spence to cross for an easy try under the posts. Sean Meaney converted for a 6-0 lead.

The Magpies responded at the seven minute mark after the tigers lost the ball on their 20m line and a short while later, Nigel Millgate put in a perfectly timed kick for winger Amanono Tovio to pluck the ball out of the air and score in the corner with just centimetres to work with. Millgate missed the conversion and the 6-4 scoreline was as good as it got for the Magpies for the afternoon.

The Tigers scored their second try at the 12 minute mark after receiving a penalty 10m out from the Wests line and former Parramatta U20 forward, Ava Seumanufagai barged over from close to the line. Meaney converted for a 12-4 scoreline.

Another penalty at the 15 minute mark on half time saw the Tigers score shortly after when Meaney scored out wide and converted from the sideline for a 18-4 scoreline.

Dane Chisholm score the first of his four tries for the afternoon in the 20th minute after he simply palmed off a would be tackler for a 50 metre run to the tryline. Meaney made no mistake with the conversion and it was 24-4.

Another try came at the 24 minute mark when a last tackle bomb was spilt by Wests and was picked up by Rhys Curran who then strolled over the line and with Meaney converting, it was an embarrassing 30-4 scoreline at better then a point a minute.

Just four minutes later, fullback Tim Simona scored from the result of appalling Wests defence. Fielding the ball on his on 40m line, he simply burst through in the middle of the paddock through shoddy defence on a 50 metre run to score under the posts. Meaney again was on target and it was 36-4.

Poor Wests defence at the 32nd minute mark saw Kurtis Rowe score his first for the afternoon as a result of broken play on Wests 20m line. Meaney missed with his final conversion attempt of the afternoon for a 40-4 score line.

Wests scored five minutes before half time when rookie five-eighth Chris Nay scored near the posts after a great run by second rower Mundarra Weldon down the Eastern Grandstand side and linked up with his winger Michael La Manna who passed inside for Nay to score. Millgate added the extras for a halftime score of 40-10.

It took the Tigers just two minutes to score in the second half when former Cairns Kangaroo player Linc Port score after an evasive run down the sideline to cross the tryline and was able to improve the position to near the posts where Dane Chisholm, taking over from Sean Meaney, converted for a 46-10 scoreline.

Five minutes later, Wests were ruled to have knocked on near their 10m line and rookie Luke Williams, a former Western Suburbs SG Ball player scored after stepping out from flimsy attempted tackles. Chisholm converted and it was now another half century this season against Wests - 52-10.

At the 52nd minute mark, former East Campbelltown junior and Western Suburbs NSW Cup player, Dayne Craig scored out wide from simple ball movement along the backline. Chisholm converted from the sideline and it was 58-10

An all-in brawl erupted at the 59th minute mark which was Tigers winger Dayne Craig and Magpies forward Henry Iuta sent to the sin bin. The Tigers scored a minute later when Brodie Monroe ran onto a great pass from Chisholm who looked one way then passed the other way. Chisholm converted for a 64-10 scoreline

At the 63rd minute mark, Chisholm scored under the posts after toying with the Magpies defence with some dazzling foot work and duly converted his own try for a 70-10 scoreline - the fourth time this season the Magpies had conceded 70+ points in a game and it wasn't about to end there.

Two minutes later, Chisholm scored his third try when he backed up from a charge upfield from Curren who found Simona in support and then Chisholm ended the movement to score under the posts again and converted for a 76-10 scoreline.

At the 70 minute mark, Chisholm scored his fourth and final try of the afternoon with another fleet footed display stepping around defenders to score another easy try under the posts. He added the extras and for the first time this season, a team in the NSW Cup had conceded 80 points in a game. Scoreline was now 82-10.

Wests managed to score at the 76 minute mark when big Seffa Silafu picked up a loose ball near the Tigers tryline for an easy try. Millgate converted and it was 82-16 but the Tigers were not finished and scored in the final minute when Rowe scored his second try accelating through a gap near the Wests tryline. Chisholm added the extras for a final scoreline of 88-16.

For the Tigers, Dane Chisholm was a cut above anyone else on the field whilst halfback Marc Russell was always creating oppotunities out wide and the smaller Tigers forward pack dominated the larger Magpie counterparts with Shaun Spence, Rhys Curren and Jack Spencer working very well as a unit. In reality, the Tigers didn't have one bad player and their task was made so much easier by the poor and lackluster Magpies defence particularly outwide.

For Wests, as usual Dean Parata tried his heart out in defence whilst Jay Maseuli never shirked away from taking the ball up.

The season is not even at the halfway mark and already the Magpies have conceded over 700 points and their for and against is just under 600. Where the Magpies go from here is anybody's guess.

Balmain/Ryde-Eastwood 88 ( Chisholm 4, Rowe 2, Spence, Seumanufagai, Meaney, Curren, Port, Simona, Williams, Craig, Monroe tries: Chisholm 8, Meaney 6 goals) def Wests 16 (Tovio, Nay, Seffa tries:
Millgate 2 goals)

Can we take any positives from this season so far? By still competing are we showing the never say die attitude of the Wests Magpies?

I don't think there are too many positives if any I'm afraid. Having a team play in the NSW Cup this year is one thing but being competitive is another thing altogether. Seeing the boys getting flogged week in week out is not a positive thing.

I felt really sorry yesterday for the support staff who help get the team onto the paddock each week - some have been doing this for over 20 years and the look on some of their faces yesterday just said it all.

What's the options? Pull the team out for the rest of the year or face a 100 point humiliation in the near future.
Well done sheens & pigshead for engineering this to the great club. Shame on you pigshead to think you were once our CEO, you are a disgrace

As a 50% partner in the joint venture wests somehow after 12 years are seen as a liability for reasons only known to WT, hence all efforts to kill of the club & brand. Ryde eastwood by attachment to balmain get better and preferential treatment yet contribute zero to the JV.

You have some great questions of which I dont think I am a great judge to answer. I have never played the game myself, only ever watched it from the sidelines. I am unable to provide you with ratings for each player as I dont know them as well as say an NRL side but I have been cheering at a few things Jay Maseuli & Seffa Silafu have been doing.

Yes I know, my humor goes missing quite a bit.

It was meant to be a take on that movie "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". On reflection, the hidden magpie probably is a symbol of how they are treated by the Wests Tigers, as an invisible entity. But I dont think our is invisible to them!
