http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/chooks-mitchell-wants-to-go-home-to-roost-20120621-20qzd.htmlMagpies' concern Western Suburbs officials want to know if Wests Tigers plan to eventually set up base in Campbelltown after plans were unveiled for a Centre of Excellence to be built there for the club's under-20s squad, the Cubs development squad and Magpies junior representative sides. The question is one of several put forward by Western Suburbs football club directors after Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys outlined a proposal to extend the joint venture to NSW Cup level with Balmain and Wests fielding a combined team next season. Humphreys also told last Thursday's historic meeting of the boards of the Western Suburbs football club, Balmain football club, Wests Leagues Ashfield, Wests Leagues Campbelltown and Balmain Leagues Club that a Centre of Excellence would be built at Campbelltown by 2014 and the club's under-20s team would be based there. While concerned the loss of their own NSW Cup team would be a further erosion of the Magpies identity, Western Suburbs officials feel they have little option but to support the proposal provided a list of six conditions drafted at Tuesday night's board meeting are met. Among them are guarantees that they will remain in charge of football in the Campbelltown area and Magpies teams will continue to play in the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball competitions.
It seems as though the boards have set Humphreys up here. If WT relocate permanently to Campbelltown, Balmain are f****d.
If WT refuse to relocate permanently, no JV at NSW Cup level meaning Balmain cannot mooch off us, meaning Balmain are f****d.
Assuming the weatherman actually keeps his word and demands legal contracts binding WT to their decisions, he may not be completely useless after all.
