At the end of the 1979 season when we lost Boyd, Dorahy, Brown, Raudonikis and O'Grady, Football Club President Bill Carsons was quoted as saying:

"I unfortunately see our future as a club in limbo....It is to our great dismay that apparently a number of the directors in Ashfield feel no great concern for our plight....Does this great club formed by football men, like ourselves, now rate us as a burden thay could well do without?...It's a sad fact that 11 men virtually control the Leagues Club and there-fore our destiny"

page 212 of "Clouds of Dust Buckets of Blood" by Gary Lester.

Not 11 men anymore, many less, but we're in the same predicament.

Fortunately we went on in 1980 to nearly win the Minor Premiership and the Premiership proper with Roy getting the Dally M coach of the year, John Ribot winning winger of the year, Jim Leis winning rookie of the year and big Bob Cooper playing for NSW.

Wests Ashfield should look back to our glory days and know how important they were and still are.

Great Magpie men made Wests Leagues Leagues Club, I hope our directors are strong men who can stand up for themselves irregardless of external pressures from other parties who want to see Wests Magpies die.

Maybe this should be passed on to the directors teecee.

Although going on the decisions apparently being made it would have no effect on them at all.

Bit of a disgrace what is going on.

Hey Tecee

Totally agree with passage you found from the book. If it werent for the Magpies in the first place there would be no bloody leagues club!

The current directors on the boards of both Wests Ashfield and Campbelltown should hold their heads in shame as to what they have done to the great Western Suburbs Football Club!

Are you getting out to the game this saturday? Let me know if you need a lift out to the game!
