My Magpies team would be, 1. A.Leeds 2. B.Hodgson 3. Ken McGuinness 4. T. Hill 5. D.Willis 6. J.Lidden 7. J.Taylor 8. H.Howard 9. J.Serdaris 10. J.Skandallis 11. D.Gillespie 12. B.Lindner 13. P.Langmack Reserves: D.Britt, S.Kearney, G.Grief & S.Georgallis If WESTS tigers are thrown into the mix then Lawrence, Tuiaki, Marshall and Farah might get a run. Coach: Warren Ryan (no sheens fan here). I too, was very apprehensive about this Celebration Night as I thought it may have been all about getting us to embrace the "tigers" as being part of our club and culture. When I heard that there is going to be a tribute to the late, great Keith Holman and more inductees into our Hall of Fame I thought it'd still be a good night. When I heard that the legendary Rick Wayde was involved I knew it'd be a bonza night. If I can get time off work, I'll be there with bells on because I've been to every Magpie function so far and they've all been tops. C'aarrrnnnn WESTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi Pollie I think you could be wrong about having come through the ranks of the Wests Magpies. If this were true, then Joel Caine would not be nominated. I believe it is the best of both the Wests Tigers and Wests Magpies for the past 25 years that have played at Campbelltown. It will be interesting to see just how many actual Magpie players will get selected in the side. My gut feeling is that it will be a Wests Tigers ambush! |

WESTERN Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club, in conjunction with Wests Tigers, will host a Hall of Fame Gala Dinner to celebrate Wests' 25 Years in Campbelltown. The club's stakeholder, Wests Leagues Club, will host the event on August 24. The event will display and mark the club's history with footage, tributes and inductees into the Magpies Hall of Fame, with the announcement of the best team to play over the 25 years with Western Suburbs Magpies and Wests Tigers from 1987 to 2012. Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club general manager Daniel Watson Hayes said the event would also feature three people being inducted into the Hall of Fame, a video tribute to Keith Holman, a Wests Junior League patron, special mentions of the 1986 team and the debut team of 1987 and a video for "progressive announcements of the selected 25-year team". Supporters are given the chance to nominate their two wingers as part of the countdown to the gala dinner. Supporters can nominate their own best team featuring 17 players from Western Suburbs Magpies and Wests Tigers from the 25 years in Campbelltown by sending an email to website@weststigers.com.au. The closest team chosen to the one selected by experts will win a table for 10 people at the dinner. Wow, Brett Clark. Now there's a blast from the past. Great little halfback. He went to St George in the late 80's then played for a few clubs in England. I remember in 1986 when Wests were doing well during the first half of the season (I think Wests were coming 6th or thereabouts) with Brett playing halfback and Trevor Cogger five-eighth but then the English halfback Deryck Fox came out to play for the Magpies and poor old Brett got shafted to the wing of all places. The Magpies then went through a period where they didn't win too many games. More backline shuffling saw Trevor moved to the centres and Brett moved to five-eighth but when Deryck Fox went back to England, Brett went back to halfback and wouldn't you know it, Wests started winning again but it was then too late in the season to make the semi finals. Ahh the memories.... |
